Single & Album Summary

Avcii should hold on to a second week, the only competition comes from One Direction with their new release of "Best Song Ever" which most likely peak at #2 at the end of the week. Diana Vickers might just miss the top 40 completely with her brand new release of "Cinderella". While Kings Of Leon will get a further boost up the chart. Expect old tracks to go back up the chart courtesy of the new compilation album NOW 85.

As on the album chart, Robin Thicke could maintain his lead at #1 or Jay Z reclaims the #1 album unless Selena Gomez takes the lead with her brand new album "Stars Dance" with poor sales other new releases from Jahmene Douglas and the new compilation album NOW 85.

Midweek Charts: Avicii aiming to deny One Direction

by Paul Willams

Avicii looks likely to prevent One Direction's Best Song Ever debuting at No 1 in the UK after opening up a 60% sales lead with Wake Me Up.

Having debuted at the top last Sunday with 266,524 sales to achieve the biggest retail tally of the year, the Positiva/PRMD-issued Wake Me Up now looks comfortably placed to make it two weeks at No 1 this coming weekend, according to Official Charts Company data.

By the end of Tuesday the track had shifted around another 70,000 units, putting it about 25,000 sales ahead of Syco's brand new One Direction single, which shows up as a new entry at 2 in the latest midweeks. Best Song Ever is one of only two brand new tracks to register among the Top 40 positions in the week to date with the other, Island act Nina Nesbitt's Way In The World, down in 39th place.

Robin Thicke's Interscope/Polydor track Blurred Lines with TI and Pharrell Williams drops 2-3 in the week so far, while two other former No 1s just below it also fall a place. Island act John Newman's Love Me Again is down to 4 and Icona Pop's Atlantic-issued I Love It featuring Charli XCX drops to 5 as Naughty Boy's Virgin chart-topper La La La with Sam Smith holds at 6. Nettwerk act Passenger's Let Her Go is subject to a revival with weekly sales up 22% to lift it 10-7, while will.i.am's Interscope/Polydor single Bang Bang is down 5-8 and the Virgin-issued Reload by Sebastian Ingrosso and Tommy Trash with John Martin declines 7-9. Meanwhile, Columbia act Daft Punk are aiming to return to the Top 10 with Get Lucky featuring Pharrell Williams up 11-10.

X Factor 2013 runner-up Jahmene Douglas has opened up a narrow lead at the top of the artist albums midweeks with his brand new RCA debut Love Never Fails, but it is currently being outsold by more than 16 copies to one by the week's top album seller overall, the newly-issued Now! 85 compilation put out by Universal and the franchise's new partner Sony. The hits album has to date sold 133,775 copies this week.

On the artist album rankings Douglas is only a few thousand sales ahead of Robin Thicke's Interscope/Polydor set Blurred Lines, which debuted at No 1 last Sunday but drops to 2 in the midweeks. Jay Z's Roc Nation/Virgin EMI album Magna Carta Holy Grail is down 2-3, while Nettwerk's Passenger progresses 5-4 with All The Little Lights as Hollywood/Polydor's Selena Gomez is aiming for a first UK Top 10 album with Stars Dance new at 5 in the week to date. Her current peak is 12, achieved with the 2009 Hollywood/Polydor album Kiss & Tell with The Scene.

Rod Stewart's Capitol/Decca album Time looks like extending its stay in the Top 10 to 11 straight weeks as it falls 4-6 in the midweeks, while Reprise/Warner Bros's Michael Buble falls 6-7 with To Be Loved. Mumford & Sons' second Gentlemen Of The Road/Island album Babel is down 7-8 as Jake Bugg's self-titled Mercury debut regains a place to 9 and Asylum/Atlantic's Rudimental are back up 11-9 with Home.

Hey Hello, the latest project from former Wildhearts member Ginger Wildheart and realised through Pledgemusic, is new at 12 in the midweeks with a self-titled albuim on the Round label. The venture features Victoria Liedke and Wildheart plays all the instruments.

Capturing them playing in the royal park for the first time since 1969, The Rolling Stones' newly-issued Polydor album Hyde Park Live is new at 15 in the midweeks, while the only other brand new release among the Top 40 sellers is F**k Buttons' Slow Focus at 30 and issued by ATP Recordings.

Midweek Charts update: Avicii sells another 100,000 singles

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Avicii's Wake Me Up has already sold another 100,000 copies in the UK this week after debuting at No 1 last Sunday with 2013's highest sales figures.

The Positiva/PRMD single is a certainty to top the chart again this weekend having shifted a further 107,492 copies by the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company. That gives it a lead of nearly 50,000 units over its closest rival, One Direction's newly-issued Syco single Best Song Ever.

Wake Me Up sold 266,528 copies last week, the highest tally so far this year, while its cumulative UK total is on course to be above 400,000 by the end of this week just a fortnight after being released.

Below Avicii and One Direction, the rest of the Top 10 rehsuffle around in the week to date, including Interscope/Polydor act Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines with TI and Pharrell Williams falling 2-3, Island act John Newman's Love Me Again down 3-4 and Icona Pop's Atlantic single I Love It with Charli XCX down 4-5.

The newly-issued Now! 85's sales are already up to 220,828 this week, almost as many as what the Top 100 artist albums have managed combined over the same timeframe. Issued by Universal and its new Now! partner Sony, it appears on course to beat the first-week sales of the equivalent 2012 album, Now! 82, which started with 267,618 takers.

Managing little more than one-seventeenth of Now! 85's sales is X Factor 2012 runner-up Jahmene Douglas's RCA debut Lover Never Fails, which currently leads midweek artist albums. Robin Thicke's Interscope/Polydor set Blurred Lines drops 1-2, the Roc Nation/Virgin EMI-issued Magna Carta Holy Grail by Jay Z is down 2-3, Nettwerk's Passenger is up 5-4 with All The Little lights and Rod Stewart eases 4-5 with his Capitol/Decca set Time.

NO SALES INFO

If we had a full top 100 midweek update on Wednesday, I'd say Diana would probably be around #45. I predict that it'll end up around #65-#70 on Sunday, which I hope it does!

It's going to be very quiet week for new releases, apart from '1' in particular

Expecting re-entries from the now effect and sadly The Lumineers will be back due to a lack of competition

Avicii for number one please!!!! hopefully sales will be between 150/200k would be great after last week

God ap[art from the Now album to keep sales up album sales could drop below a million before the release schedule picks up on 26th August again with franz Ferdinand!! No1 sales will mainly be 10k id say with 40% download sales keeping things up that much!

AlunaGeorge, White Lies, Edward Sharpe at least but otherwise it's pretty quiet

Oh I see... But why it's on NOW a year after the release and months after peaking on charts. Blah.

It's not, it was on the previous Now edition. Thermometer is incorrect.

No, it's not on the NOW compilation.

Ho Hey is #45 on iTunes, but if you take out the NOW versions of I Love It, La La La, Blurred Lines and Love Me Again plus the album versions of Get Lucky and Blurred Lines then Ho Hey is #39. That was what I was trying to say :P

It's not in top 40 on iTunes atm though

Once the cherry picking from now 85 is added to the sales of the artists it will sadly be back in the chart but hopefully something could do a midweek release and push it out, at least until it gets used in some X Factor montage/performance....

No, it's not on the NOW compilation.

Let's start a campaign for Me & My's Baby Boy to chart and then we need only one song to overtake it. :P

(I don't know if Baby Boy is available in the UK at all)

AlunaGeorge, White Lies, Edward Sharpe at least but otherwise it's pretty quiet

Yeah Aluna George could sell ok but White lies havent really picked up much airplay at all yet so a fanbase sale for them would be maybe 12-15k?!
