Singles

Ellie Glulding has a lead of just a few thousand sales with her Polydor single Burn at the top of the singles midweeks as she leads an unchanged top three completed by Avicii's Positiva/PRMD track Wake Me Up at 2 and the Island cut Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) by Klankarussell featuring Will Heard at 3.

Island's Rizzle Kicks are heading for their fourth Top 10 hit with Lost Generation showing up as a new entry at 4 and former Westlife star Shane Filan appears poised to give Capitol UK its Top 10 breakthrough with Everything To Me new at 7.

The Lana Del Rey Vs Cedric Gervais Polydor single Summertime Sadness holds at 5 as RCA act Miley Cyrus's former No 1 We Can't Stop stays at 6 and Ministry of Sound track Earthquake by DJ Fresh with Dilo and Dominque Young drops 4-8. There is no change at 9 for Lady Gaga's Interscope/Polydor single Applause and the same label's Robin Thicke million seller Blurred Lines with TI and Pharrell Williams holds at 10.

Cheshire rock band The 1975 are heading for a third UK Top 40 hit with a revival of their Dirty Hit single new at 26 in the week to date.

Albums

California rock band Avenged Sevenfold are currently edging out Naughty Boy in a bid to top this weekend's UK artist albums chart.

Hail To The King, the band's sixth album in total and fourth with Warner Bros, is at present around 3,600 sales ahead of fellow brand new release Hotel Cabana by Virgin's Naughty Boy, while Ellie Goulding's Polydor set Halcyon races 26-3 following the release of an expanded version, according to Official Charts Company data.

Avenged Sevenfold have only visited the UK Top 10 once to date, reaching No 5 with their last album Nightmare in 2010, while Hotel Cabana is Naughty Boy's debut, although he co-wrote and produced a number of tracks on 2012's overall top seller, Our Version Of Events by Virgin colleague Emeli Sande.

The new version of Goulding's album includes eight additional tracks to the release that came out last October, reaching No 2. Among the additional titles is Burn, which has a narrow lead at the top of midweek singles as it looks to achieve a third consecutive week at No1.

In a busy week for new albums, there are presently six brand new releases (including the expanded Halcyon) among the Top 10 sellers. These include at No 4 Another Self Portrait - 1969-1971, the 10th in Columbia's Bob Dylan Bootleg Series. Only one of these albums has breached the UK Top 10, Vol 8, which covered the years 1989 to 2006 and came out in 2008.

Both Newton Faulkner and Franz Ferdinand are among the Top 10 with their respective fourth albums, but may well have to settle for lower chart showings than previously. Domino act Franz Ferdinand's Right Thoughts Right Words Right Action is at No 5, while their self-titled debut made it to No 3 in 2004, follow-up You Could Have It So Much Better topped the chart in 2005 and 2009's Tonight: Franz Ferdinand hit No 2.

Newton's new Ugly Truth/RCA album Studio Zoo is at 7 and follows his first three albums peaking (in chronological order) at 1, 3 and 1, while after securing a fourth week at No 1 last Sunday Britain's Got Talent duo Richard & Adam drop to 6 in the midweeks with their Sony album The Impossible Dream as Asylum/Atlantic act Rudimental's Home falls 2-8, Interscope/Polydor at Imagine Dragons drop 6-9 with NIght Visions and Stereophonics are down 5-10 with the Stylus/Ignition-issued Graffiti On The Train.

Last weekend's televised Reading/Leeds Festival has lifted the fortunes of a number of albums near the top end of the market, including Virgin act Bastille whose Bad Blood holds at 13 with sales up 45%, headliners Biffy Clyro lifting 36-16 with the 14th Floor/Warner Bos-issued Opposites on the back of a 143% sales rise and Jake Bugg's self-titled Mercury debut improving 27-19 as demand increases 56% week-on-week.

Port Isaac male singing group Fisherman's Friends are new at 14 in the midweeks with their Universal set One And All, while a new Rough Trade-issued Belle & Sebastian retrospective called The Third Eye Centre and housing B-sides and rarities enters at 25 in the week so far. Meanwhile, LA band Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are set for a UK chart debut with their eponymous Island album at 34 on Sales Flashes.

Midweek Charts update: Goulding aiming for longest 2013 No 1 run by Brit

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Ellie Goulding looks poised to achieve the longest No 1 run by a Brit on the UK singles chart this year as Burn heads for three weeks at the top.

The Polydor single, which achieved its second week in charge last Sunday, continues to have a narrow lead at the head of the midweek singles chart and should secure a third week at No 1 this coming weekend, according to Official Charts Company data.

If it does it will outright make it the longest-running No 1 by a domestic artist in 2013, overtaking Ministry of Sound act Duke Dumont featuring A*M*E's I Need U (100 Percent), which spent a fortnight at the top in April. James Arthur's Syco debut Impossible was also No 1 for two weeks at the start of the year having previously been No 1 for a week last December before being replaced by Justice Collective's Metropolis-issued He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother.

Burn's biggest rival for this Sunday's No 1 continues to be Positiva/PRMD act Avicii's Wake Me Up, which remains at No 2 on the midweeks as the Island single Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) by Klangkarussell featuring Will Heard holds at 3. Lana Del Rey's Polydor single Summertime Sadness with Cedric Gervais gains a place to 4 as RCA act Miley Cyrus climbs 6-5 with We Can't Stop, while Rizzle Kicks' brand new Island track Lost Generation currently registers as a new entry at 6.

On artist albums California rock band Avenged Sevenfold are still leading with their newly-issued Warner Bros effort Hail To The King around 3,000 sales ahead of Naughty Boy's brand new Virgin debut Hotel Cabana at No 2. An exanded version of Ellie Goulding's Halcyon out this week helps to lift the Polydor album 26-3 as Britain's Got Talent duo Richard & Adam's Syco debut The Impossible Dream falls to 4 after four weeks at No 1. Directly below it are three brand new entries from Columbia's Bob Dylan, Domino signings Franz Ferdinand and Ugly Truth/RCA's Newton Faulkner.

A lot depends on if this Eminem single get's a UK release tomorrow until I know that my predictions for number one are on hold, if it's not Ellie Goulding could do the double

Bob Dylan is number one on amazon best sellers right now, so that's certainly a top ten contender for the album charts on Sunday

Edited by girl_from_oz

It will be interesting to see what Shane does. It seems to have stalled on Itunes at #33 already, but he has the EP sales and physical sales off his website to boost him. I can see Tues mid-week being #10 and it plummeting through the week to end up at #23 officially.

Hope Matt and Mel can stay top 25.

I think Ellie's looking good for a third week at number one! Rizzle Kicks should be top 10, about 6 or 7.

Shane Filan will be interesting has there are physical and download sales so maybe a top 20 entry

Otherwise, for the first time in ages I'm more interested in the albums, I think Ellie or Naughty Boy could get the number 1 album, but as much as I'd like NB to get it I hope Ellie can do the double this week!

Really beginning to wonder how long Ellie can stay on top, definitely getting a 3rd week, seems Eminem's new single is available everywhere apart from the UK, hopefully the track drops Sunday.
According to Ellie, she is #3 with Halcyon Days.

Is it counted as a separate entry from the original "Halcyon" album?

So album charts on Sunday- Ellie Goulding, Franz Ferdinand, Naughty Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Bob Dylan, Fishermen's Friends and hopefully The Belle And Sebastian album i'm playing now are all going to enter high, could 5 or 6 new enteries in top 10 if Ellie Goulding is counted as a new entry

edit: forgot about Edward Sharpe's new album, expect that to chart quite high as well

Edited by girl_from_oz

Halcyon Days will be combined with Halcyon as it has the same tracking list as the original just with 8 tracks stuck on the end. I think the only time a re-release would be counted separately is if it doesn't include all the original songs/is mixed up - see David Guetta's Nothing but the Beat 2.0.

I'm thinking Naughty Boy will be number one and Avenged Sevenfold will be #2 or #4, depending on where Richard & Adam are (perhaps AS at #2 with Richard & Adam climbing by the end of the week?).

I expected Shane Filan to easily sail into the top 10 but its not going to happen now. Looks like a successful solo career is not looking looking so bright unless he ends up an album selling act. I expected Ellie Goulding to be number 1 in the album chart with ease but i think Naughty Boy will do it now.

Would be extra delighted if Matt Cardle and Mel C can stay top 25 but its looking like they will be lucky to take top 30 by the end of the week..

Also Newton Faulkner. Going to be a lot of top 20 new entries in at least the mids.

Eminem will do a Daft Punk and release on Friday...

just you wait and see.

According to Ellie, she is #3 with Halcyon Days.

That's just from someone's Twitter who's taken it off the iTunes Pop Albums Chart :P

  • Author
Well that would be awesome RT @elliegalways: #HalcyonDays at #3 in the UK. Will it follow #Burn and make #1? @elliegoulding
Eminem will do a Daft Punk and release on Friday...

just you wait and see.

Not quite...pre order says the release date is scheduled for September 8th against Katy Perry!

Not heard Eminem's song but Roar is an immense song, had it on last night before I played football & it helped with my game face.

I'll be buying a legit copy!

Never really been interested in listening to Ellie's album, i just get into the singles when they start to chart.
