September 25, 201311 yr Unlucky pair today, so close. I really need to start looking up more random information, no pointless answer for moi today. Another pair for the 200 club though.
September 25, 201311 yr Author The rounds were HORRIBLE The 'banter' gets worse and worse. Those awkward pauses http://www.moopy.org.uk/forums/images/smilies/zombie.gif
September 25, 201311 yr You can be as intelligent as anything but getting to the final really depends on the luck of the draws. Golf and film would be a disaster for me for example... Film is something I'd hate, I just don't watch enough and even ones I do I don't really pay attention to who's in them. It's quite common for a "films featuring person X" question to come up and I have no idea who they are, and it turns out I've seen at least 3 of their better known films. Would also dread literature, musicals, theater or history. Even today as a Nottingham Forest season ticket holder I wouldn't have won in the final, I'd heard of the pointless answers but wouldn't have remembered them, and certainly not under pressure.
September 25, 201311 yr Love Pointless! I find the anagram ones difficult, like the tree question today. Under pressure I can imagine I'd be even worse at it. I'd like to be a contestant too, but there are just some categories that I'm horrendous at which puts me off. I do wonder what age demographic they use for the questions though. You would assume they take a wide range, but before I've seen questions on Pop music where the by far most recent song has almost been a Pointless answer!
September 25, 201311 yr I love the anagram rounds too as I love word puzzles. Managed to get crab apple today.
September 25, 201311 yr Author They take their sample online but they are not made aware that its for Pointless so I don't quite get how it works? I find the best thing to do with the anagram rounds is to get answers in your head before you look at them and then match. I got the horse chestnut one today that way.
September 25, 201311 yr I applied to gp on this in 2009 (I think) before it was well know - I was 'auditioned' with my friends boyfriend, but we didn't get the call back. 2 of the guys we auditioned with got on the show, but they didn't do well.
September 25, 201311 yr I love this show but the banter makes me cringe like nothing on earth, it's so forced and stilted.
September 25, 201311 yr I do very much enjoy this show sometimes, best quiz show after University Challenge (which is a whole different matter), but I do HUGELY prefer watching it on catchup, skipping the rounds on questions I know little about or the banter that has little to do with the questions is almost a necessity. Most sports (that golf question recently... *_*), film and theater would be a disaster for me, but geography (which neutralises my fear of sports rounds often if they're combined like the Grand Prix one was today) and history rounds normally have me going at it like a neurotic. Don't think I'd ever apply, couldn't face the crushing humiliation of not being able to name a single cricketer or something.
September 25, 201311 yr I do wonder what age demographic they use for the questions though. You would assume they take a wide range, but before I've seen questions on Pop music where the by far most recent song has almost been a Pointless answer! It's done online and I would guess for questions like "Name songs by [insert artist/band]" that they have a time limit of however long to name them. So some people may go for more obscure answers and miss out popular or well known ones and vice-versa?? Not actually sure, but that'd be my guess!

There was me thinking you would have aced the Nottingham round  Love Pointless! I'm oftem amazed at just how bad some people are at anagrams. I was half expecting to see OKA in the trees round with a score of around 60  The most recent hit is often a decent bet in pop questions as they are frequently relatively minor hits. They take their sample online but they are not made aware that its for Pointless so I don't quite get how it works? I find the best thing to do with the anagram rounds is to get answers in your head before you look at them and then match. I got the horse chestnut one today that way. I think the Pointless questions are asked along with a load of other questions that other organisations have paid for. I'm still puzzled over whether they stop accepting answers after the first incorrect one. For example, there was a question ages ago on UK monarchs who had reigned for at least 20 years. If I was asked to name as many as possible I would just have said Victoria, Henry I, Henry II etc. followed by the Edwards (apart from VIII who I know didn't last long), the Georges (apart from VI, ditto). Judging by the scores, that would not have been allowed. The same sort of thing applies to the anagrams / missing letters rounds. Do people have 100 seconds to answer just sox questions or are their others? If they only have six that makes some of the scores even more astonishing.
September 26, 201311 yr So boring and with rubbish prizes - it's such a pointless show. Come back The Weakest Link.
September 26, 201311 yr So boring and with rubbish prizes - it's such a pointless show. Come back The Weakest Link. That adds to the fun. It means contestants are there for the fun of it as much as they are there to win something.
September 26, 201311 yr The moral of today's show - when the question is on politics, going for the Northern Irish ones almost always gets the pointless answers.
September 26, 201311 yr Author So boring and with rubbish prizes - it's such a pointless show. Come back The Weakest Link. Huh? The prize money is often greater than what they get on The Weakest Link?! (and they get a fabulous trophy to boot *.*)
September 26, 201311 yr Managed to get a pointless answer today with George Young. :o As for the film round, I guessed Gladiator because Russell Crowe is frequently referred to as the star of that film. Didn't know anything else about it. Tom Jones writing Tom Jones was the funny moment for me. Knew the answer to that one as I remembered it from sorting out the books in my college tutor's class room.
September 27, 201311 yr Author Loving library assistant Janet. Though there is NOTHING fun about sticky back plastic, it ALWAYS goes wrong and ends up bubble laced. Got Vera Wang as a Pointless answer *,* it's funny where you get your knowledge from, I know squat about fashion designers but Wang was featured on The Apprentice US :D
September 28, 201311 yr 2 Pointless in the final *.* Was very surprised at both as they didn't seem too obscure; Tuvalu and Solomon Islands under 'Countries in Oceania'.
