Yes. I'd say more like 99% of songs that get #1. Nobody can say We Can't Stop or Wrecking Ball (or any other #1) got #1 solely because of the songs. There's unknown artists releasing songs like those and they don't even get top 1500 on iTunes.

 

I agree with you 100%... Miley has released far superior songs in the past like 'See you again' and 'Who owns my heart' but they underperformed because she wasn't controversial and overhyped at the time....

 

Also, as u've said, so many unknown artists release so many great songs,which are 100 times.better than what's in the chart then get completely unnoticed because of.the lack of promotion and support....

 

The song only plays a small part in its success...
