This gif is hypnotizing me. Ostriches are so great (which is why Séyetana feels safe sharing such a long border with the new ostriocracy).

Considering these ostriches were endemic to Umiiruka just a couple of days ago they seem to have spread pretty quickly.

The Hics fall just short

Sadly, in our first contest under our new ostrich overlords, we have just failed to make the final as The Hics' 'Tangle' falls heartbreakingly close to the tail end of the top 15 of semi-final two.

It's our country's 4th DNQ of the year, meaning we will need to qualify in BJSC LX to keep better than a 50/50 record for the year. Luckily, we think we have something up our sleeves that will blow the socks off the competition to that 27th place smash for sure.

'Tangle' came 18th out of the 26 songs in semi 2, receiving a total of 47 points from eight countries. Terra Avium and N DNTN were, not unexpectedly, the biggest supporters of the track, both awarding it 8 points, while Ingermanlandia (the biggest supporter of 'Eden' last month) also gave 7 points. Fljótavík, Zechonia and newcomers Ethanola all awarded the track 6 points, Espen gave it 5 and the final point was contributed by Vülkyria. The lowest scoring qualifier in the semi-final received 51 points.

It's a disappointing but not unexpected finish after predictions were mostly negative for the song (aside from our own predictors' misplaced confidence only three out of 12 predictors places Land of Ostriches in the final). Struthio, the de facto leader of the country as power-sharing talks continue amidst rising fear of civil war, was quoted as saying,

"Scrawk awwwwk kaw-kaw kaKAAAW scrawk"

(English translation: "We hate you guys. Especially Ramrynia.")

Voters mostly satisfied with results

Despite the disappointment in our own entry, the results of semi-final 2 were largely adequate. Ostronian voters' top 3 songs all made the final as did 3 of the other songs we awarded points to. 7-point receiver Farahtyn, with Christopher's 'Told You So', were our favourite of the failing nations, while we also awarded 5 points to N DNTN (the Dave Harrington remix of 'Why Didn't You Save Me' by Nicolas Jaar feat. Tamara), 3 points to Bellamia (Michael Schulte's 'Jump Before We Fall') and 1 point to Séyetana (Antti Railio's 'Ruostunut Ankkuri'), the latter of which fell even closer to the final than us, just two points away.

3 of the 4 least voted for countries also didn't qualify - Daehun's entry 'I Go Crazy Because Of You' by T-ara continued the poor form of their country among ours' voters coming 25th and dead last in the Ostronian televote. Jackie Thomas' 'It's Worth It' (Unovia's entry) came 23rd and newcomers Jamvale ranked 22nd with their debut entry 'Edward' by Shannon Thomas. The other DNQs ranked as such; Ashton finished 15th with Hunter Parrish's 'Sitting At Home', Sandebörg were 16th with Fallulah's 'Dragon' and returnees (after a break of over four years) Tartford came 18th with comeback 'Everyone Says "Hi"' by Claudia Brücken.

The full results of the televote for the semi-final will be announced after the conclusion of the contest, alongside the full televote results for the final in Cherry Tree City, Ramrynia.

I do think the change of the country name was taking in consideration to your DNQ
Banish the birds. They are bringing Persephonia down :(

Ingrains will once eat all of the ostriches in the bjsc world and everything will be fine yay

The Federal Republic continues to support the government of Persephonia, currently in exile in long standing Ashtonise allies Caerfyrddia.

The Federal Armed Forces of Ashton are on stand-by to support any military action by the legal government of Persephonia against the invading vermin.

I think the word is that Séyetana's Section 31 is researching a virus to wipe out all members of Struthio camelus should the need arise in the near future. Public opinion on this is divided.

The Federal Ministry for Disease Prevention has authorised research on a virus at Universitet i Citida del Cove (University of Cove City) and would like to team up with Séyetania to further and speed up this research.

Accepted. I'm confident that together we can bring down these ostriches by the next contest.

If the virus doesn't work, we have a few tonnes of nukes that are due to be scrapped within the next decade...

Exiled President Salim Zosimus of the former Federal Union of Persephonia has announced that an important press release about the future of the chaotic nation is to be released tomorrow. It is speculated, but not confirmed, that this may involve the approval of the creation of an anti-ostrich virus in Séyetana and/or the approval of Ashton-supported military action against the ostriches.

Bird Bulletin, the ostriches' state-sponsored media, has remained quiet about this announcement.

Ostriches are no more

Following the development of an anti-ostrich virus by our friends in Séyetana, the ostriches are gone and the Federal Union of Persephonia has returned. President Salim Zosimus is back in power after a 2-week interruption and will continue to run the country like nothing happened at all and this will never be spoken of again.

All relics of the ostrich regime have been quickly removed - the national anthem is once again 'Viva Persephonia', Bird Bulletin has been closed down and the flag has reverted to the so called 'Stars of Union' design (as seen below). The ostriches' only remaining presence in the country is Ostronian becoming a recognised regional language, as although their presence was brief, their language spread quickly and is now spoken by humans in some parts of the country. PNB will not be providing Ostronian translations.

Persephonian BJSC Committee announces a new hype project for BJSC LX entry

Four BuzzJack Song Contests ago, Persephonia failed to qualify for the final. The same month, Trifoski won following a self-hype campaign. Last month, Persephonia (as Land of Ostriches) failed to qualify for the final. Also last month, Trifoski won following a self-hype campaign. The PBJSCC notes that the last time this happened Persephonia decided to try a copycat hype campaign and ended up actually nearly winning - and it has thus been decided that these spooky parallels are to be continued and this time Persephonia hope to go one better and win the whole thing. So without further ado we can officially announce...

Stay tuned.

Persephonian televote results and final results commentary

This time last month Persephonia's entry 'Dark Star' was the third biggest entry of all time by a Jubirdia member nation. It now drops down to 5th in one swoop and also loses another of its distinctions, which we are absolutely not bitter about at all. Trifoski and D'yermak'er are the countries to blame for this. They finish 1st and 2nd respectively with The Kite String Tangle's 'Given The Chance' and Goldroom's 'Embrace'.

The former becomes a second winner in the last 4 contests for Trifoski and while their last winner got there with just 137 points, 'Given The Chance' blew that out of the water with an incredible 217 points. Excluding contests which had an inflated scoring system that's the 2nd highest total by any song in the contest's history, lagging behind only XIX winner 'Silly Boy' by Eva Simons which scored a perhaps unbeatable 268. D'yermak'er claim a fourth top 10 finish from their first 9 entries and another new peak, after finishing 3rd the previous month. 'Embrace' received 199 points to overtake 'Dark Star' (by five points) as the highest scoring 2nd place of the year. It's also the 2nd highest scoring 2nd place of all time (again excluding the inflated contests), behind the 203 scored by BJSC XLI 2nd placer 'Look Back' by Tone Damli.

The Union of Jubirdia claimed the entire top 4 last month as Aeroche had another great month finishing 3rd with Man Without Country's 'Catfish' (171 points) and hosts Ramrynia were 4th with Klingande's 'Jubel' (169 points). 'Jubel' was an autoqualifier for the final, as was the song finishing 5th, the Starkey edit of 'Experience' by Ludovico Einaudi which scored 162 points for Fljótavík. Apart from Trifoski all of the countries in the top 5 also finished in the top 4 the previous contest.

Usfland scored a personal best, finishing 7th with Henry Krinkle's 'Stay'. Sandénia also set a national record of 9th with 'Melodies' by Madison Beer. That's where the similarities between the two end as far as Persephonian voters are concerned - 'Stay' received our full score of 12 points while 'Melodies' finished a distant last place in the Persephonian televote. Syndare continued their recent return to form with a sixth top ten finish, 'Never Look Away' by Vienna Teng coming 10th. The top 10 was completed by frequent visitors Espen (6th with DVBBS & Borgeous' 'Tsunami') and Altyr Muunilinst (8th with Laleh's 'Colors').

Outside the top 10 there were notable results from FSR Rontvia (an 11th place finish for Hozier's 'Take Me To Church', their most successful entry for some time and their first song to finish 11th after having entered every contest to date), #00274E (17th with Dolly Parton's classic 'Jolene', a month after TLC's 'Creep' finished a place lower for Mdiče - a new trend?), Ethanola (one of two debuting nations but the only one to qualify, finishing 23rd with first contribution 'Gotham' by Ten Walls, something of a shock qualifier being a 9 minute deep house instrumental) and Vülkyria (who, although they got the wooden spoon, finishing 32nd out of 32 with Jonathan Johansson's 'Centrum', are still celebrating their first qualification for the final since BJSC XLII when they were still known as Letland). The People's Republic of Ginsay Lohands and PRoJ both submitted their votes late and were punished with 33% score deductions which saw them finish 26th and 29th respectively with Porcelain Black's 'One Woman Army' and Sin Fang's 'Young Boys' (remixed by Jónsi).

The rest of the Jubirdia nations: Bignia-Zaragovina (who apparently now like to go by the extended name 'The United Nations of...') came 19th with an English version of Korean track 'Tail Of Hope' by BoA; Aquafina returned to the final with a 21st place finish for Alex Metric's 'Ilium' (feat. Mark Yardley); Skall were just behind with 1987's 'Ocean' in 22nd; controversial recent joinees and former Persephonian rivals Allecian came 27th with Polly Scattergood's 'Disco Damaged Kid' (due to be their last entry to the contest for the foreseeable future); Hendinia were 30th with Scavenger Hunt's 'Lost'; Jayrusalem finished an unexpectedly low 31st with Joel Compass' 'Astronaut' (remixed by former contest winners Ghost Loft), their second entry to make the final out of five.

The full results of the Persephonian televote can now be revealed, in keeping with contest rules which forbid their revelation earlier than the publication of the final results. As usual, the raw voting figures have been converted to a score out of 10 by our shifty and arbitrary conversion methods.

Indeed, I felt like I was listening to a different (but still not amazing) song the second time! This happens quite a lot actually (FSR Rontvia is another example from this same contest).

Rustie 'surphs' to Trifoski to represent Persephonia

We are very excited to announce that after a long time of trying to convince him, Rustie will be representing Persephonia in the sixtieth edition of the BuzzJack Song Contest, hosted in Mrkyvka, Trifoski. The Scottish electronic music producer is being sent to the contest with the single version of 'Surph' (a track from his 'Glass Swords' album) which features British singer Nightwave. The song was a big sleeper hit in Persephonia in 2012, only reaching the low top 30 in the national chart but nonetheless becoming one of the most popular tracks of the year. We hope that other countries will agree with us, whether they too are aware of the song already or it is a discovery for them.

Llamas In Need charity single hits Persephonian shops

Persephonian retailers have begun to stock the Llamas In Need charity single, 'Did You Ever See A Llama?', to aid the international effort to save the llamas of Terra Avium from a terrible disease. President Salim Zosimus has announced plans to organise a charity concert for the llamas. Leona Lewis is already rumoured to be making an appearance at the concert as is recent star of the UK singles chart Storm Queen. Emeli Sandé has also been rumoured to be appearing but we would like to remind people that Sandé is banned from Persephonian soil and will not be invited.

I've realised that the Nightwave version is so much worse because
is shortened and has messy vocals plonked all over it. It could've been so much more! :(

Well each to their own obvz but I find the intro of the original kinda drags a bit and the additional vocals improve it. The original is still a great track but I much prefer the Nightwave version.

The first breakdowny part kinda falls a bit flat comparatively in the original as well, listening to it now. Sorray~
