Ouch for Eliza Doolittle indeed - thought "Big When I Was Little" was a great lead single. Great to see John Newman looking to secure a #1 album though; shame about "Cheating" falling to #22 on week 2 though.

Should we expect weekly T5 album clearouts for a while now? Hoping Haim, AM and KoL can all climb a few places by Sunday and push some of the new releases down.

It seems the majority of people here hate it - some even mentioned it in the 'Worst Songs Ever' in The Lounge! :o I thought it was great although I did tire of it quite quickly. She had very good longevity with her last album but I'm expecting this one to plummet in subsequent weeks. :(

Could Eminem push for no1?

I hope so, I'd rather Eminem at #1 than OneRepublic. It will be interesting to see if Miley could possibly catch up by the end of the week too!

Plus sales outside the Top 10 will be a lot better than usual considering the amount of new entries.

That's what we thought last week in the singles chart, but Vidcapper reckoned that (something like) places 50-80 were the lowest sales for those positions for some time so it doesn't always follow.

Yea sales are bigger first week but not overall with most songs getting held back now!!

I was meaning more Top 40 though, so even if HAIM and Drake etc. do have big falls, their sales won't be as bad as the position suggests.

Logically it wouldn't follow anyway. A few extra songs debuting with 50,000 is quite insignificant when looking at the whole market. And say 5 of the new releases hadn't been released last week, it might seem to make a big difference at the top of the chart, but going lower down the chart (where really the vast majority of sales are), you basically get what was the #73 becoming the #68, and what was the #155 becoming the #150, and so on. That's only a small change in sales, and it just continues to get smaller the further down the chart you go. Even if we had an all new top 10 last week I don't think it would've changed that much in the overall picture.

The converse is true as well. On the "quiet" weeks with low sales at #1 in the past few years (e.g. Good Times week 3, Promises, Gettin' Over You, etc.), the sales lower down the chart would've still been at usual levels I assume.

I apologise if what I said makes no sense. I find it difficult to put maths things like this into words.

Matt Goss  Who in blue heavens is he.

He and his brother were 'Bros', they were massive in the late 80's - rather like 1D are today.

I really hope Cher can hold onto the #3 position! But i'm not sure as Paul McCartney may rise especially since he's on Graham Norton this Friday. Why they haven't got her on other shows this week, i'll never know.
A surprisingly excellent comeback campaign from Cher, the album looking set to be her most successful since Believe and I Hope You Find It is doing pretty well too :D Pleased to see The Sats top ten too! Embarrassing flop for Eliza on both charts, seeing as the single will miss the top 40, shame.

Has a single ever dropped from the # 1 position to # 3 (or lower) and then rebounded back to # 1 the following week?

It looks like OneRepublic might just achieve that feat this week.

I seem to recall on the relatively rare occasions that singles have returned to # 1 in the past, that it has usually been from # 2...

Gotye 'Somebody That I Used To Know' dropped to #3 after its 1st week at #1, then climbed back to #1 for 4 more weeks.

I knew that somebody would be aware if there was a precedent. Thanks.

Don Broco being at #27 is excellent, I had hoped for top 20 when they were in the 60s on iTunes after a few hours and their EP was #1 but the single stalling quikcly put paid to that. Great result for a band who are pretty much unknown outside of rock circles.

Also "Perfect Day" in 1998 went {1}-1-2-2-3-3-1

I know now haha but it was sweet of you to answer. Thanks :D

In addition to Gotye & "Perfect Day", "We Found Love" spent three weeks at number one, dropped to 3, climbed to 2 then returned to number 1 for 3 more weeks.

Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" had a three week gap between the two spells at number one, dipping to 4 at one point.

"Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga spent two successive weeks at 3 in between two single week periods at the top.

What I think I'm saying is that it's not as rare as one might think.

There was Bruno Mars' 'Just the Way You Are' falling to #4 before returning to number one. Although that wasn't the following week - I think there was about 3 weeks between it's time at #1.
