October 14, 201312 yr Author Midweek Charts: John Newman heads crowded albums market Source: MW by Paul Williams John Newman is leading an extremely busy UK artist albums market as he looks to debut at No 1 this weekend with Tribute. The newly-issued Island album is one of seven brand new releases currently occupying places in the midweek Top 10 with the list also including new sets from the likes of Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney and Cher, according to the Official Charts Company. Newman, who topped the UK singles chart with his debut solo release Love Me Again, has opened up a narrow lead with his first Island album and presently faces his main competition from Pearl Jam with Lightning Bolt, their 10th studio album in all but first on the EMI label. Their previous album Backspacer reached No 9 in 2009. Cher returns with the Warner-issued Closer To The Truth, her first album since 2001's Living Proof, and it is new at 3 in the latest Sales Flashes. Its first single I Hope You Find It, which she performed on the X Factor results show on ITV last Sunday, is new at 24 on midweek singles. Paul McCartney's Hearmusic set New, which includes production contributions from Paul Epworth and Mark Ronson, shows up as a new entry at 4. His last studio album Kisses On The Bottom, which featured mainly covers, reached No 3 early last year, while his last album of all new material, Memory Almost Full, hit No 5 in 2007. The hefty number of brand new albums charting high continues with 2012 Britain's Got Talent runners-up Jonathan & Charlotte's second Sony Classical album Perhaps Love new at 5, while Polydor act The Saturdays' fourth studio album Living For The Weekend is new at 6. The album should improve on the peak of the group's last album, Your Radar, which made it to No 23 in 2011. Meanwhile, Gary Numan is heading for his first Top 40 album since The Fury in 1985 with the Cooking Vinyl set Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind) new at 10 in the lastest midweeks. Although its final chart position will very likely be lower, it should still mark a big improvement on his last album, 2011's Dead Son Rising, which missed out on a Top 75 place, going as high as 87. Columbia artist Lissie's second album Back To Forever is new at 11, while Arctic Monkeys lead the survivors from last Sunday's chart with their fifth Domino effort AM dropping 3-7. Having debuted at No 1 last weekend with her first UK albums chart-topper, RCA's Miley Cyrus is now down to 8 with Bangerz. Another eight brand new abums are on course to chart in or around the Top 40 on Sunday and include what would be former Bros man Matt Goss's first solo hit album. The Decca set Life You Imagine is currently showng up as a new entry at 20. Other new albums heading for the chart include sets from SN1's Giggs, Roadrunner's Trivium, Will Young with an RCA best of and Parlophone's Eliza Doolittle. By comparison to albums, the singles market is relatively quiet and is led again by Interscope/Polydor's OneRepublic who lost their crown last Sunday with Counting Stars but have bounced back 3-1 in the midweeks. Just behind, RCA's Miley Cyrus drops 1-2 with Wrecking Ball while as a new entry at 3 is Global Talent/Polydor act Lawson's Juliet. James Blunt climbs 6-4 with the Atlantic-issued Bonfire Heart while Ram/Virgin's drum & bass act Wilkinson, who has been getting A list support at Radio 1, is new at 5 with Afterflow. Debuting at 2 last Sunday, Interscope/Polydor's Eminem makes a hasty drop to 6 with Berzerk, while Parlophone's Conor Maynward falls 4-7 with R U Crazy in its second week at retail. EMI act Izzy Azalea could be heading for her first Top 10 hit after Top 20 successes with Work and Bounce with Change Your Life featuring TI new at 8 as Virgin's Kay Perry drops 7-9 with Roar. After debuting at 14 last weekend with Heartbreaker, Def Jam/Virgin EMI's Justin Bieber is already back with a strong showing as All That Matters turns up at 10 in the midweeks. October 14, 201312 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Pearl Jam, Cher heading for two-decade highs Source: MW by Paul Williams Pearl Jam and Cher are set to score their highest-charting albums in two decades in a top five joined by fellow veteran Paul McCartney. Pearl Jam's new EMI album Lightning Bolt ranks is a new entry at 2 in the latest Official Charts Compnay midweek artist album rankings, placing them higher than they have been since Vs reached No 2 in 1993. Two places below them at 4 is Cher's brand new Warner Bros set Closer To The Truth, which is on course to secure the singer her best UK chart position since the retrospective Greatest Hits: 1965-1992 reached No 1 in 1992. Sitting between Pearl Jam and Cher currently is Paul McCartney whose new Hearmusic/Virgin EMI album New is at No 3 and should be boosted by an appearance by the Beatles legend on Graham Norton's BBC One show on Friday night (October 18). Island act John Newman continues to lead the Sales Flashes with his debut album Tribute, while Sony Classical's Jonathan & Charlotte show up as a new entry at 5 with Perhaps Love, meaning the entire top five is currently made up of new entries. Last Sunday's No 1, Bangerz by RCA's Miley Cyrus, is down to 7, while Polydor's The Saturdays make it six brand new entries in the Top 10 with Living For The Weekend at No 8. Interscope/Polydor's OneRepublic look like returning to the top of the singles chart on Sunday with Counting Stars rising 3-1 in the week so far as Miley Cyrus's RCA-issued Wrecking Ball falls 1-2. There are four brand new releaes in the Top 10 led by Juliet from Global Talent/Polydor's Lawson at No 3 and also including Interscope/Polydor's Eminem who now has two titles at the top table with the brand new Rap God at 5 and Berzerk dropping 2-6. October 14, 201312 yr Going to be an interesting album chart this week - several new entries by well-known acts. I'm expecting something like this for the Wednesday Update: 01 John Newman 02 Paul McCartney 03 Pearl Jam 04 Miley Cyrus 05 Cher 06 Arctic Monkeys I think Pearl Jam will be #2 for Tuesday if it's revealed and Arctic Monkeys will probably climb over the week.
October 14, 201312 yr I reckon One Republic will climb back to number 1 with Lawson and Wilkinson going top 10! I'd love to see John Newman get a number 1 album, there should be another good clear out on the albums chart and it would be great for The Saturdays to go top 5!
October 14, 201312 yr What's that Fall Out Boy album? Hope Cher can reach top 5 like she did in the US.
October 14, 201312 yr What's that Fall Out Boy album? Just a new EP (8 tracks long so should appear in the albums chart).
October 15, 201312 yr Author I can't find anything on twitter, it seems a quiet week with possibility 5 new entries inside the top 10 but I think Iggy will end up between #11 to #15 and Justin Bieber trailing off towards the end of the week. I think Miley will stay on top for a second week, she has two versions on iTunes, when you add those together its pretty close, plus other download sites to take in consideration.
October 15, 201312 yr Author JAMES INGHAM @JAMESINREHAB 9m All the top 7 albums in this week's midweek charts are new entries. Congrats to @JohnNewmanMusic who is currently no.1 #albummidweeks https://twitter.com/JAMESINREHAB
October 15, 201312 yr So happy for John Newman, fingers crossed it can hold on but I can't believe Miley must have dropped between 8-10 but I guess she will finish around 5-6 I'm really hoping One Republic can beat Miley on the singles as both have multiple versions and other sites so I hope they can do it! Hoping Justin Bieber will trail off by Sunday and miss the top 10
October 15, 201312 yr Author JAMES INGHAM @JAMESINREHAB 30m Lawson are just 700 copies behind One Republic in the battle for their 1st UK no.1 with single Juliet. Download & support. https://twitter.com/JAMESINREHAB This sounds like OneRepublic are at #2.
October 15, 201312 yr https://twitter.com/JAMESINREHAB This sounds like OneRepublic are at #2. How can they be no2 when Lawson are 700 copies behind?
October 15, 201312 yr Miley might very well be dropping 1->8. The album sold only 30k last week. 70% drop in sales would mean ~9.2k
October 15, 201312 yr https://twitter.com/JAMESINREHAB This sounds like OneRepublic are at #2. You could be right, although the way it's worded it sounds like OneRepublic are at #1, and Lawson are at #2 or #3.
October 15, 201312 yr So what are the other 6 albums? Cher, Pearl Jam, The Saturdays, Paul McCartney...?
October 15, 201312 yr Author How can they be no2 when Lawson are 700 copies behind? Don't shoot me, I couldn't make it out myself, the description is not clear, shoot the messenger.
October 15, 201312 yr Author So what are the other 6 albums? Cher, Pearl Jam, The Saturdays, Paul McCartney...? By method of deduction from albums iTunes I make it Giggs and Fall Out Boy
October 15, 201312 yr You could be right, although the way it's worded it sounds like OneRepublic are at #1, and Lawson are at #2 or #3. I think that's clear, Lawson can't be at number one if they are 700 copies behind, not 700 copies ahead or leading by... Though I can Lawson finishing the week at 3 or 4, though I think sales will be low around 50-60k
October 15, 201312 yr Author I think that's clear, Lawson can't be at number one if they are 700 copies behind, not 700 copies ahead or leading by... Though I can Lawson finishing the week at 3 or 4, though I think sales will be low around 50-60k Plus Lawson have over 7200 (yesterday) on kworb plus their physicals and other download sites, where One Republic and Miley seem far ahead which makes me think 1R are #2  Surely physicals don't count for much these days.
