So occasionally in BJSC there are some quite absurdly long songs. Most of these don't make the final (like that one thing Pavel sent and... that other one Pavel sent) but this month one of them (Ten Walls' 'Gotham') has. I've heard of some people admitting to not bothering listening to it at all because of its length which seems SILLY to me but I suppose I could understand turning it off partway through if you don't like it.

So how do you treat long songs? Personally I will always listen to every song the whole way through regardless of how little I'm enjoying it. Thankfully the quality of songs in this contest is for the most part good enough for that to not be a problem.

I listen to the full song, unless it's making my ears bleed in which case I put careful thought into banning the soul responsible.

I never mind a long song as long as it justifies the length. There's value in both the ESC three minute compact package and the ten minute epic. In terms of BJSC, every song deserves at least one listen. (Yes, even 'A Throne Without A King'.)

I didn't even notice 'Ten Walls' was so long, to be honest - that kind of beat becomes quite hypnotic so it goes by without me registering the time.

I listen to long songs until I get bored of them. For example I listened to the whole of Gotham because I like it but I turned off that random classical entry from Pavel very quickly (I did skim it of course to make sure I wasn't missing out on any possible good bit later in the song (there was none to be found in that entry however))
The 25-something minute song off Sufjan's latest album ('Impossible Soul') doesn't feel complete until the very last moments so I know better to listen to each song in its entirety whether it's 3 or 30 minutes long. No other option there.

The songs whose ends I'm not able to reach (that's a REALLY AWKWARD sentence structure and I don't know how to improve it) are normally the standard 3-5 minute lengths. That's probably because the ragingly camp pop belchers fall into that bracket. Most of the long songs (Nightwish, Sufjan, Joe Goddard) entered into this contest happen to be varying degrees of great.

It's been a while since I've sent a noticeably long song actually.

Impossible Soul was apparently just entered into Popjustice's Song Contest (infact i just finished listening to it!). 9 minutes for a song isn't even that bad tbh, although i know some have been put off by it - they should be kinda grateful no one entered Impossible Soul

I try my best to listen in full, just as I would ever song. However if it gets TOO MUCH I will turn it off, but the same applies to a shit song too.
I give long songs the same chance I give short ones, and long songs can often be quite wonderful to be fair, I've had 9 6+ minutes in my personal chart top 10 this year. If it's crap I'll skip it after a minute, especially if I already have 10 songs which I'm quite happy to vote for.

Although I do that with songs of any length.

I always listen to them the whole way through as I do every song, whether I come back to them or not, depends on whether I get bored or I'm captivated by it. I I often favor tracks of the latter's nature over the catchy/instant songs if I liked them, as I feel I can't judge them the same as catchy/instant tracks as I feel the longer/more experimental tracks hold a deeper meaning than them.

That probably makes no sense, BASICALLY if I like what I hear and it doesn't seem as long as it is, its amazing, if it doesn't go anywhere, I don't normally come back to it.

I'll normally listen to the first minute of a long song, then maybe skip 20 seconds and play 5 seconds, to see if there's any change, through to the end. If there's no real change I'll write it off, but if it changes I'll then listen all the way through without stopping and see how the changes are made.

Then I'll decide if I like it or not.

Although that can apply for ANY song tbh, I [quite frequently] get bored of like, 3:01 songs.

I listen to every entry in full at least once, regardless of the length. You never know if an amazing bit will pop up somewhere!
I listen until I can take no more, but that's not a special treatment I give long songs, it applies to all songs (although refering to Gotham as a 'song' is a bit dubious).
really tempted to send this next month judging by the reactions

It is called the Buzzjack Song Contest, y'know? :kink:
