I suppose the problem is that in theory, you could put your album on pre-order for twelve weeks and trickle out twelve pre-order tracks that people have only got by default and have them counted as hits.

In principle, I don't object to one-off sales being counted (as was actually the case with Bowie, though nobody seems to remember this) but that requires iTunes and the record company to disclose the split sales figures which they may not be willing to do.

Then those purchases should definitely be counted. I don't like this whole idea of buying the album and getting the "single" free in advance being a genuine purchase of the single

Except you don't get the single free, you are charged for the single then when the album is released you get charged for the rest of the album

Which means you paid full price for the album, therefore the track which was released early was free

1. Royals - Lorde

23. Sweeter Than Fiction - Taylor Swift

33. No Sleep (feat. Ksi, Tigger da Author & Tubes) [Main Radio Edit] - Sway

34. All Night - Icona Pop

It's no different to using the 'Complete My Album' feature (which also makes the single 'free').

I never thought 'Unconditionally' was going to be a #1 contender like some people said but surprised it's quite as low as it is! Then again it has had no promo at all. I'm sure it will be big when it does get promo.

Wow at Sway, I guess it's mainly KSI selling it though? Have heard he is vaguely popular on the Interwebs. I do wonder if Sway will ever actually release his album, he seemed to just vanish after 'Level Up' even though he had good momentum going on.

And I see Sean Paul is flopping after all! He might continue climbing throughout the week and still end up ~#30 (like 'Azonto') but I was thinking he'd manage top 20. Good to see a Sean Paul single that actually seems to live up to the level of exposure it received though I guess

expect Lady Gaga to be #3 on iTunes tomorrow

I'm predicting she'll reach #2. Didn't someone say earlier that James was already going down the slippery slope.

Union J also dropping :P kiss your top 10 goodbye.

Gutted for Little Nikki :(

Best release this week (although that's not saying much).

He started rising again actually I noticed before Popbars crashed.

Everyone thought Unconditionally would get an X-Factor performance hence the high debut predictions, I thought it would be top 40 by now as it has a lyric video and it's been announced as the 2nd single.

Yeah that's probably why, does anyone else remember Droideka 'Get Hyper' from earlier this year which got to #29 because of him apparently using it lots in his videos?

Yep ksi is massive on YouTube, it's mainly his subscribers going ooh Ksi features so I must download it haha

No.67 Katy Perry - Unconditionally

This is definitely the ballad of the year!!!

Everyone was expecting a massive sales week with James and lorde but it doesn't look that way anymore. James into dark red on kworb now. Yay for showtek tho!

Surprised at Sway being so high! :o But if it's because of KSI then that explains it.

Does anybody remember where Justin Bieber's two previous songs peaked on iTunes? I think his first few will do better, but they'll stop selling so much by the last few.

'Heartbreaker' got to #2 (IIRC) and 'All That Matters' #3. So he's peaked a place lower with each one so far. Don't think that'll continue though, I imagine all of them are going to go at least top 5 if not top 3.

'Hold Tight' already going into terminal descent mode (down 0.04 on the last update). Can't remember if 'All That Matters' did that within its first day or not...

Thanks. I personally think there's bound to be some which miss the top 5 on iTunes. I think some people might lose interest after 2 months of it. They've both been good songs so far imo (I haven't listened to the 3rd one yet).

These linked go to an 'account suspended' page for me

They worked yesterday.

No Scheiße Sherlock! :D
