How can you say Royals is simplistic in its production when the chart has been full of David Guetta song for years? :blink:

 

I think the word you're looking for is "minimal". It's like Somebody That I Used to Know, that song was quiet, but there were a dozen things going on a once in that song.

 

Excellent post Eric - totally agree. You may not like the song, but to call it simplistic when you have songs like "Roar", with its wafer thin melody and complete lack of a middle-8 that just repeats ad infinitum throughout the song, at the business end of the chart I think is slightly unfair.

I don't care about anything else this week but I'm so happy to see Showtek at 6!! I'm just hoping Union J will drop and Booyah can climb a bit higher :lol:

I'm not sure why it's now top 100 but it's not a re-entry, it never did anything here before (well it might have done SOMETHING but it's definitely never been top 100 before. I think).

That's a very good comparison actually. Two overhyped songs with no real substance. Royals has this indie aura which makes everyone love it for any reason (Somebody That I Used To Know was exactly the same), while Roar has absolutely nothing going for it.

 

How these tracks are #1 is beyond me.

Yeah. They could've spent 2 minutes to up the tempo and put some RedOne-esque synths in the song to make the Buzzjack crowd happy, but that would've ruined the song and made it just like any other song imo. Royals is perfect the way it is. Let it be.

 

The beat they use is very appropriate considering the cultural references made in the song imo.

 

I don't mind Roar though. I don't think it's that simple, there's many worse songs.
