October 28, 201311 yr What are they actually doing this year?! They've had pathetic themes for the past three series and they're suddenly bringing back the ACTUAL themes which I'm sure make the contestants look like even more of a joke than they're made out to be. I'm glad I've not been keeping up to be honest (although it being filmed around the corner from me IS a temptation to visit Nicole).
October 28, 201311 yr I'm wanting Donna Summer, ABBA and Bee Gees but it will probably more on the lines of 'Treasure' and 'Get Lucky' etc. Someone may attempt a song where Nile Rodgers is credited as lead artist or as part as Chic since he's performing a melody on the Saturday night. Someone to perform 'Dance Your Pain Away' and give it a respectable peak would be great, ta. Edited October 28, 201311 yr by liamk97
October 28, 201311 yr I wonder if the group performance on Sunday will celebrate how much they all love disco and they will sing Disco Love.

I kind of like having themes like this early on, it sorts out the men from the boys right away. Although the problem with that is that said the boys of this analogy (well, Sam Callahan is clearly all man :smoke:) are sailing through whilst the 'man' that is Hannah gets bottom 2 despite smashing every theme so far... What an awful analogy, sorry  I don't want these themes ALL the time though. It's good to have some but not many acts can pull them all off, so it makes for a few car crash performances each week. And they're not always so in a good way...
October 28, 201311 yr They need to start introducing one or two weeks where the contestants get to choose their own performances and aren't confined to a certain theme. That's one way of establishing where they see themselves going as artists.
October 28, 201311 yr As long as we FINALLY lose Sam C or Abi this week I will be happy. Both are completely useless.

October 29, 201311 yr Another youtube views video update. From X Factor's official youtube page only... This time I'm adding the "Likes/Dislikes" too... Tamera is consistently 300k+ too! Nobody else is close to touching either of them.
October 29, 201311 yr I really hope Sam B can go all the way and win this tbh. :wub:It's a shame that those who are voting for her/viewing her videos will completely abandon her and won't buy ANYTHING from her. I think she could do about as well as that Richard & Adam (or whoever they are (from BGT)) albums wise, but that's it really. She has a good voice though and her tone is lovely. So in terms of "best voice", she should win, no other competition. As for the "looking for a global star", she doesn't have that, imo. I think they should just scrap the overs category tbh.
October 29, 201311 yr I think they should just scrap the overs category tbh. They really shouldn't, but they should stop treating it like the 'OAP' group. Australian X Factor has seen 2 winners in a row from the Overs category - who didn't look specifically like 'overs'. UK X Factor just seems to treat all overs as cabaret singers giving them karaoke basics rather than treating them just like the other categories. Lorna was 26 but they treated and 'marketed' her as being like 40 and a Whitney tribute act - the overs could be so good but are treated like an OAP joke club, aside from one big belter of Celine Dion who won't shift records. And I do love Sam.

And I do love Sam.I made this comment before I saw the Australian X Factor final and saw that both Dami Im and Samantha Jade were in the overs category! :o I had NO IDEA. I genuinely thought they'd won through the girls category. Both look (and sound) youthful! I agree with you though. It is a shame! I think Olly Murs was in the overs category so it just shows they CAN be just as successful and marketable. If we'd have had someone like Dami or Samantha on our version I fear they would have been made out to be a novelty act instead of going down the route of interesting and inspiring versions of certain songs. Does the Australian version have themes, btw? I only saw the last part of the final
October 29, 201311 yr I do agree the Overs category should stay, it can produce some of the best acts to come from the show - even if it's happened very rarely. Sam B and Lorna from this year proved that the category has a LOT to offer (even if the way they handled Lorna really was terrible), although with Shelley they just gave the novelty factor back to it. Didn't that country singer win the US version too, and was in the Overs?
October 29, 201311 yr Overs is only over 25 though, I wish they'd have more 26/27 year olds. Look at the current climate; Katy Perry is 29, Lady Gaga is 27, Justin Timberlake is 32. Olly Murs, also, a credible overs act from this very show. You don't have to be in your late teens/early 20's to do well, being over 25 isn't "OAP to the music industry age", it's a shame X Factor UK always treats it like it is and gives anyone in the Overs category just songs from the 80s or novelty pap.

While I agree, people like Katy Perry, Lady GaGa etc. have been in the industry since they were in their prime (lets say between 21-24), it's just they've only just been discovered and had chance to develop as artists. By the time you're 25+ chances are if you've wanted to be a singer you've already tried, not had a break and are now wanting a proper career, or you just don't believe in your ability against younger, fresher artists. I'd be so interested to hear the numbers for the amount of people that audition for those categories, because I can't imagine it is very high. It's got a bad image, and it has ever since the likes of Chico, Steve Brookstein etc. - they need to make the Overs cooler, but none of the 'cooler' judges ever gets that category. They tried to make Kye Sones cool last year, but it just never worked. There always tends to be strong acts in the category but none of them are ever going to achieve any longevity success because their image and style is tailored to a market that don't buy records unless they have to.
October 29, 201311 yr I hope someone sings Disco Love and gives it a massive boost :) No 's' there. BOOT someone out of the competition. Preferably Sam C (C stands for CompletelyUntalented).
October 29, 201311 yr Olly Murs was in the Overs category! The things we forget... BARELY though. Just turned 25 at that time. Hardly a cause to yell OMG HE WAS SO IN THE OVERS!!11 Having someone in their 30's come close to winning/win is more like it and worth mentioning. I'd love Sam B to win this even if I think she won't. I think she'll be this year's Janet Devlin, i.e. topping the vote the first few weeks and then going out. Well the judges will probably keep her Misha B-style until as far as they can but she will not make it to the top.
