Jade Thirlwall (who had auditioned for two previous series) and Perrie Edwards (both from South Shields), Jesy Nelson (from Romford, East London), and Leigh-Anne Pinnock (from High Wycombe) had all originally auditioned as solo artists, but like fellow acts Nu Vibe and the Risk, were put together as a group at the boot-camp stages. After impressing Jessie J and mentor N-Dubz's Tulisa Contostavlos at Judges' House, they made it to the live finals, where their engaging personalities, girl-next-door image, and contemporary song choices saw them outgrow their initial underdog status. Originally known as Rhythmix, the girls were forced to change their moniker in week four after it was revealed that there was already a Brighton-based children's charity of the same name. But following stellar performances of En Vogue's "Don't Let Go," Katy Perry's "E.T.," and Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music," they beat the Conway Sisters and Hope's previous record to become the first girl band in the show's history to make it past week seven. After contributing to the high-profile M&S TV ad campaign and the finalists' charity cover version of Rose Royce's "Wishing on a Star," they eventually went on to triumph over Marcus Collins in the final. Their debut single, a rendition of Damien Rice's 2003 hit "Cannonball," went on to top the charts but scored the lowest first-week sales by an X Factor winner since Steve Brookstein's "Against All Odds" in 2004, and was later beaten to the coveted Christmas number one spot by the Military Wives Choir. Their debut album, DNA, featuring the singles "Cannonball," "Wings," and the title track, was released in late 2012. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2011 01 Cannonball -NAS- 2012 01 Wings -1- 2012 03 DNA -2- 2013 12 Change Your Life -3- 2013 16 How Ya Doin? January 12, 201412 yr Was hoping for a little higher for Little Mix :( Maybe they can take full advantage of a dead week and get Top 10 next week? I doubt it but you never know.
January 12, 201412 yr Apart from the Chart Show, I don't really know Jameela knows that much about how Radio 1 works. She was covering for Sara once and had no idea about what to do. It's the fact she say's the same things about certain songs every week. It's annoying!
January 12, 201412 yr God damn at 'Counting Stars' re-overtaking this since Friday. I reckon this will be its peak now.
January 12, 201412 yr How strange that two songs about wishing to turn back time are charting next to each other
January 12, 201412 yr I was hoping Little Mix would be higher, 'Little Me' is definitely my favourite single by them now! Still, at least it's out-peaked 'How Ya Doin'.
January 12, 201412 yr Why did Sub Focus have such a strange climb?? As already stated increased airplay, it's recovering from the Christmas period and it's growing on people.
January 12, 201412 yr 13 (from 10) OneRepublic - Counting Stars [D] http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51N2PxHFr4L._AA160_.jpg Chart Run: 43-30-20-17-13-2-4-3-1-3-1-3-5-6-11-12-16-17-19-22-10-10-13 [23 wks] Release Date: 22-03-2013 Format: download only track Label: polydor associated labels Sales: 700k+ Video here: hT_nvWreIhg Biography Featuring the anthemic songwriting of Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic rose to prominence in 2007, when "Apologize" began its reign as the most popular digital download in American history. Although the song proved to be a quick success, OneRepublic had spent five years touring the musical minor leagues before its release, with Tedder splitting his time between the band's work and production gigs for other artists. Tedder and Zach Filkins formed the band in 2002 and relocated to Los Angeles shortly thereafter, adding keyboardist Drew Brown, bassist/cellist Brent Kutzle, and drummer Eddie Fisher to the lineup in the process. OneRepublic then signed with Sony BMG's Columbia label in 2003; three years later, however, the bandmates returned from a performance at Coachella to find themselves dropped from Columbia's roster. Nevertheless, OneRepublic's popularity continued to soar on MySpace, and Tedder helped raise the group's profile by penning songs for artists like Blake Lewis and Hilary Duff. Hip-hop producer Timbaland (with whom Tedder had already worked for several years) took notice of the group's audience and signed OneRepublic to his own Mosley Music Group, a joint venture with Interscope Records. Timbaland also remixed one of the group's most promising tracks, "Apologize," and included it on his own album, 2007's Timbaland Presents Shock Value. The song quickly became a platinum-selling single in many countries, breaking airplay records in the U.K. and selling an unprecedented 4.3 million digital downloads in America alone. Later that year, OneRepublic stepped out on their own with Dreaming Out Loud, a debut album filled with piano-fueled songwriting and pop/rock melodies. The album quickly went gold, and "Apologize" continued to top the singles charts in multiple countries. Another Tedder-penned track, Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love," experienced similar success at the same time, thus making Tedder one of the year's most celebrated songwriters. OneRepublic began writing songs for a second album in 2008, and the group later decamped to Colorado Springs to avoid outside distractions. Although initially planned for a summer release, Waking Up wasn't completed until September 2009. "All the Right Moves," the album's lead single, was released to radio that same month, while the entire album followed in November. In 2013, OneRepublic returned with its third studio album, Native, featuring the singles, "Feel Again" and "If I Lose Myself." January 12, 201412 yr It's the fact she say's the same things about certain songs every week. It's annoying! Most of the show is scripted by the producers. You could tell when Dev was doing it how much he was reading
January 12, 201412 yr I wish Out of the Blue had the success for him that everything after it had :( Really like this one though, the breakdown is amazing. That's his worst single! And 'Turn Back Time' is his 2nd worst. Oops. 'Rock It' really should have been a huge hit but at least it can still claim to be his only top 40 hit prior to taking off with 'Torus'. (Though his bigger success has been at the cost of quality IMO, 'Tidal Wave' was great and 'Endorphins' as well to a lesser degree but the other 3 top 40 hits this era are markedly below the quality of his older material :() Pleased with a #14 peak for 'Little Me'. Hope they can continue to have more success this era (assuming the rest of the album is any good, based on the first 2 singles it should be).
January 12, 201412 yr This is gonna be a rush to get two more songs in before 6pm. If they cut 'Do What U Want' or 'Drunk In Love', I swear I'll cut a b!tch! Edited January 12, 201412 yr by APRIL J
January 12, 201412 yr Most of the show is scripted by the producers. You could tell when Dev was doing it how much he was reading Given the amount they're paid, they should be coming up with new scripts every week! Edited January 12, 201412 yr by gavindeejay
January 12, 201412 yr Still feeling the love for 'Counting Stars'. Seems an eternity since my lil bro and I bought it on Itunes over The Vamps!!! :yahoo:
January 12, 201412 yr Just realised, by the end of today's chart there will have been 16 former #1's! So so stale right now. -x- Really hope Do What U Want has re-entered the top 10 this week!
