Single & Album Summary

Pharrell and Pitbull/Kesha battle it out for a third week for the #1 spot whilst Elyar Fox lightens up what would otherwise be quite a static Top 10 (I say lighten up but not so much if you've actually heard the song :kink:). That's until Shakira/Rihanna's OA/OS collab makes its way up, although its Monday release puts it at a slight disadvantage. Elsewhere, 'XO' should finally make the Top 40, along with Tinie Tempah's 50th collab with Labrinth.

In the albums, THE BOSS IS BACK. Expect an easy number one debut for him so it will be Ellie vs. Beyoncé vs. every other act with a reduced price to make the #2 spot!

Midweek Charts: Springsteen heading for 10th chart-topper

Source: MW

by Paul Williams

Bruce Springsteen will become only the seventh act to achieve 10 No 1 albums in the UK with High Hopes heading to the top of the artist countdown this weekend.

The newly-issued Columbia set is currently outselling its closest rival by more than three copies to one, according to the Official Charts Company, as The Boss prepares to overtake some music legends on the all-time chart-topping list.

By achieveing a 10th No 1 album Springsteen will move ahead of Abba, David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Queen, all of whom have topped the chart nine times. He will then be level with U2 on 10 No 1 albums and only behind The Beatles (15 No 1s), Madonna (12), Elvis Presley (11), Robbie Williams (11) and The Rolling Stones who have had 11 No 1s if you count both the original version of Exile On Main Street in 1972 and its 2010 reissue as two chart-toppers.

Six of those 10 Springsteen chart-toppers would have come with his last six regular studio albums, a sequence beginning with The Rising in 2002 and thus far taking in Devils & Dust (2005), Magic (2007), Working On A Dream (2009) and Wrecking Ball (2012).

He heads another very quiet artist albums market with the only other brand new title among the Top 40 positions so far being Irish singer-songwrter James Vincent McMorrow's new Believe set Post Tropical new at No 15.

The rest of the Top 10 in the week so far is largely a reshuffle of what occurred last Sunday. Polydor act Ellie Goulding's Halcyon drops 1-2, Beyonce's self-titled Columbia set falls a place to 2, Bastille's Virgin debut Bad Blood is up 5-4 to swap places with Island act John Newman's Tribute, which falls to 5. Gary Barlow's Polydor-issued Since I Saw You Last is down 3-6, Metal & Dust Recordings' London Grammar move up 10-7 with If You Wait after returning to the Top 10 last weekend, Positiva/PRMD's Avicii falls 7-8 with True, Asylum/Atlantic's Rudimental are down 8-9 with Home and Robbie Williams slips 6-10 with his second Island set Swings Both Ways.

Jake Bugg's EMI album Shangri-La lifts 24-20 with sales up 31% after he performed on Graham Norton's BBC One chat show last Friday, while an appearance on Jonathan Ross's ITV programme the following night sends B-Unique/RCA act Kodaline's In A Perfect World up 37-21 in the week so far with sales improving 30%.

Seventeen-year-old London singer-songwriter Elyar Fox has the only brand new entry among the midweek singles Top 10 at this point in the week with RCA debut Do It All Over Again new at 4. The top three sellers above it are identical to what they were on last Sunday's chart with RCA-handled singles Happy by Pharrell Williams and Timber by Pitbull featuring Kesha at 1 and 2 respectively, while Positiva/PRMD's Avicii holds at 3 with Hey Brother.

The next five songs below Elyar Fox all drop a place with Warner Bros act Jason Derulo's Trumptes slipping to 5, 3 Beat/AATW act Fuse ODG down to 6 with Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad), Ellie Goulding's Polydor-issued How Long Will I Love You at 7, 3 Beat/AATW's second Top 10 cut Control by Matrix & Futurebound featuring Max Marshall at 8 and Interscope/Polydor's Eminem at 9 with The Monster featuring Rihanna. Beyonce's RCA-issued Drunk In Love with Jay Z holds at 10

Outside the Top 10 RCA act Shakira's Can't Remember To Forget You with Rihanna is new at 12, Cash Money/Republic/Island cut Thank You by Busta Rhymes with Q-Tip and Kanye West lifts 37-19 with sales up 143%, while Infectious Music's Vance Joy is up 35-20 with Riptide.

Midweek Charts update: Happy Pharrell surpasses 500,000 sales

Source: MW

by Paul Williams

Pharrell Williams' Happy has broken through half a million UK sales as it heads for a third week at No 1.

The track has already this week sold another 80,000 copies and by the end of business on Thursday was already 30,000 sales ahead of its nearest rival, fellow RCA-handled Timber by Pitbull featuring Kesha. That takes its cumulative tally above 500,000 units and will secure it a third non-consecutive week leading the UK singles chart this Sunday.

Williams' success with Happy follows him being part of two million-selling singles in the UK last year, co-wrting and featuring on both Interscope/Polydor act Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines and Columbia-signed Daft Punk's Get Lucky. These were the two most successful singles of the year.

In the chart so far this week Pitbull holds at 2, having the week before dislodged Happy from the No 1 spot for seven days, while also static are Postiva/PRMD's Avicii with Hey Brother and Warner Bros act Jason Derulo with Trumpets at 3 and 4 respectively. As well as having the week's top two singles, RCA is also responsible for what are currently two brand new entries in the Top 10 with Elyar Fox's debut Do It All Over Again arriving at 5 and Can't Remember To Forget You by Shakira featuring Rihanna at No 10.

Bruce Springsteen will score an easy victory on the artist albums chart this weekend with his Columbia-issued High Hopes having more than double the sales of Polydor act Ellie Goulding's Halycon at No 2. High Hopes will become Springsteen's 10th UK album chart-topper in all.

As Goulding drops a place to 2, Beyonce is down a notch to 3 with her self-titled RCA-handled album as Virgin act Bastille rise 5-4 with Bad Blood. Gary Barlow's Polydor set Since I Saw You Last drops 3-5.

NO SALES INFO

Oh Diana Ross is releasing a new album?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/43/D._Ross_Boss.jpg

Another sure-fire number one, according to liamk97!

Isn't Shakira chart eligible then?

I'm sure she will be, but the mid-week soft launch leaves her at a significant disadvantage.

Isn't Shakira chart eligible then?

She is, I just accidently missed it out because it wasn't Top 40 on the iTunes update that Jack posted in the iTunes thread.

Hope James V McMorrow can have an impact. Criminal that he hasn't had more chart success.
Canterbury ‏@canterburymusic 24m

MASSIVE NEWS! 'Dark Days' has gone straight into the midweek album charts at number 36!!! 3rd highest new entry.

Thank you all so so much

=====

If that's the 3rd highest album, Bruce S and James V M are the other 2 new albums in the album chart

Was amazed to see Idina Menzel chart last week, as things stand she's likely to say in the top 40, the most shocking thing though is Demi Lovato's version of that song hasn't made the top 40

In the singles Pharrell is still #1, on sales of 34,8k, Pitbull on sales of 23,4k, rest of the top 5 Elyar Fox at #3, Avicii #4, Jason Derulo #5, the only other new entry is Shakira and Rihanna in at #30, big jumps for Chase & Status #18, Vance Joy #19 and Busta Rhymes #22 and Pompeii is back inside the top 40, with a 3 place climb for Tinie Tempah.

On the albums Bruce is #1 on sales of 25,4k, Ellie on sales of 6,4k, Beyonce #3, Bastille #4, John Newman #5, the other new entry from James V M at #12, + Canterbury as mentioned above oooh big jump for Kodaline #18

'Happy' could be heading for its biggest sales week to date then :o
Looks like the current midweek #1s will be the official #1s on Sunday then!
Since Elyar Fox is falling on iTunes, looks like the top 10 will be non movers by Sunday , but Sub Focus might sneak in somewhere.
Since Elyar Fox is falling on iTunes, looks like the top 10 will be non movers by Sunday , but Sub Focus might sneak in somewhere.

Elyar Fox will definitely be in the top 10 though, so everything below him at least has to get pushed down a place.

Omg Happy had sold 26,400 this time last week - and he's on over 34k this week - could easily smash through 100k again this week - wonderful stuff!!

Brucie should also do at least 50k which is decent hope Ellie & Beyonce break 20k!

We should hear That Elyar new entry in the update now - radio 1 don't play it much, we should see why :)!
