Biography

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (pronounced: [ʃaˈkiɾa isaˈβel meβa'ɾak riˈpol]; born February 2, 1977), known professionally as Shakira (English /ʃəˈkɪərə/, Spanish: [ʃaˈkiɾa]), is a Colombian singer-songwriter, dancer, record producer, choreographer and model. Born and raised in Barranquilla, she began performing in school, demonstrating Latin, Arabic, and rock and roll influences and belly dancing abilities. Shakira released her first studio albums, Magia and Peligro, in the early 1990s, failing to attain commercial success; however, she rose to prominence in Latin America with her major-label debut, Pies Descalzos (1996), and her fourth album, Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998).

Shakira entered the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service (2001), which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Its lead single, "Whenever, Wherever", became the best-selling single of 2002. Her success was solidified with her sixth and seventh albums Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005), the latter of which spawned the best-selling song of the 21st century, "Hips Don't Lie". Shakira's eighth and ninth albums, She Wolf (2009) and Sale el Sol (2010), received critical praise but suffered from limited promotion due to her strained relationship with label Epic Records. Her official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", became the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time. With over 550 million views, its music video is the eighth most-watched video on YouTube. Since 2013, Shakira has served as a coach on the American version of The Voice, having appeared in two of its six seasons.

Shakira has won many awards including five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and she is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time, having sold a total of 125 million records worldwide, over 70 million albums and 55 million singles. Her U.S. album sales stand at 9.9 million. Outside of her work in the music industry, Shakira is also involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and benefit concerts, notably her Pies Descalzos Foundation, her performance at the "Clinton Global Initiative" created by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and her invitation to the Oval Office by President Barack Obama in February 2010 to discuss early childhood development. In 2013, Shakira was listed on Forbes as one of the 100 most powerful women in the world. - Wikipedia

Oh dear, this really hasn't performed to expectations at all! Shame, it falls as it's starting to grow on me...

'Can't Remember To Forget You' is a bit of a grower, though the verses and the choruses sound like completely different songs. Nice to see Shakira and Rihanna get another top 20 hit anyway.

oops

I'm not fussed about this. Also note the intro sounds like Lawson's Juliet

Edited by gavindeejay

It growns on me..It has very good verses. But Shakira's voice is painful in some parts..

Shaflopa.

Didn't I originally say that the Rihanna feature would make this a minor hit instead of a massive flop, before everyone telling me it would be big? Who was right? :kink:

Ha!

I doubt this will make the top 10 now. These big star collaborations are always a disappointment, it's like they think they can just release anything as it has big names attached to it.

This week's dropouts:

30 18 2 Hardwell feat. Matthew Koma Dare You :( :(

34 22 9 Gary Barlow Let Me Go

36 31 14 Wilkinson Afterglow

38 33 8 Breach feat. Andreya Triana Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)

39 41 47 Bastille Pompeii

40 30 10 Lily Allen Somewhere Only We Know

Hardwell should've done so much better than this, at least it went top 20 though.

This is definitely one of their best, but after all this time it's sounding a bit stale now. :(

Biography

Following the success of JLS and the Wanted, X-Factor contestants One Direction were the next group of heartthrobs to help revive the previously dying concept of the boy band. Niall Horan from Mullingar, Ireland; Zayn Malik from Bradford; Harry Styles from Cheshire; Louis Tomlinson from Doncaster, and Liam Payne from Wolverhampton (the latter had previously reached the judge's house stages of The X-Factor as a 14-year-old back in 2008) originally entered the 2010 seventh series of the talent show as individuals, but following a suggestion from guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, they were grouped together to become One Direction. Mentored by Simon Cowell, they soon became one of the favorites to win the show, thanks to renditions of Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You," Elton John's "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." However, despite receiving a standing ovation for their duet with Robbie Williams ("She's the One") in the live final, they eventually finished third behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. Spotting the potential of five Justin Bieber-esque teen pinups, Cowell signed them to his Syco label in a £2million deal, and after performing on the X-Factor tour, the quintet began work on their debut album with Savan Kotecha (Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias). Following a sponsorship deal with Nintendo DS and a book, Forever Young, named after their cover of the Alphaville classic which was intended to be their winner's song, they released their first single, "What Makes You Beautiful," in late 2011. The full-length album, Up All Night, followed soon after. In 2012, One Direction became the first British band to debut on top of the Billboard 200 list when Up All Night sold over 176, 000 copies during its first week of release in America. In late 2012, One Direction released its sophomore album, Take Me Home. Highlighting more of the band's melodic pop, Take Me Home featured songs and production via Sweden's Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, and Savan Kotecha, who worked on Up All Night, as well as contributions from singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. In August of 2012, the band released the single "Live While We're Young" online. - iTunes

This is one of their best..They need to release "Midnight Memories" as 3rd single.
I hope One Direction give at least another song a proper push from the album, considering 'Midnight Memories' (the single) was so half-arsed.
Midnight Memories has a single pre-order, out 9 March; it's not done :P

Biography

Employing a stylish mix of arty, confessional bedroom pop and club-ready electro-rock that has drawn comparisons to the likes of Grimes, Lana Del Rey, and Sky Ferreira, New Zealand singer/songwriter Ella Yelich-O'Connor, who goes by the stage name Lorde, became an Internet sensation at the age of 16 with the video for her debut single, "Royals," which garnered over 750,000 hits on YouTube. Her 2013 debut EP, The Love Club, hit the number one spot on both the New Zealand and Australian charts.
