(UK) Sales: 500k+ Video here: an4ySOlsUMY Biography Ellie Goulding is a British vocalist whose music finds the balance between electro-pop and indie folk. Born in Hereford, England, she later moved to the country's east coast to study drama at the University of Kent. Goulding had developed a love for folk music as a teenager, and her time at University also exposed her to electronica. After two years, she took a break from her studies and moved to West London, where she pursued a career as an alternative singer/songwriter and befriended producers like Starsmith and Frankmusik, who gave her songs an electro-pop twist. In 2009, Goulding began building an audience via the internet, where early tracks like "Starry Eyed" and a cover of Sam Sparro's "Black & Gold" were posted on taste-making MP3 blogs such as Discodust. Goulding soon graduated from the blogosphere to print media, gaining praise from mainstream publications like The Guardian and fielding offers from record labels. She ultimately signed a major-label deal with Polydor Records and began making preparations to release her debut album. In the meantime, she penned songs for Diana Vickers, Gabriella Climi, and others. During the final weeks of 2009, Goulding topped the BBC's "Sound of 2010," a poll conducted by British music critics and industry insiders to identify new talent. Building on that momentum, she released Lights — a sparkling debut album that splashed Goulding's vocal flutter across a landscape of acoustic and synthesized instruments — in March 2010. Lights topped the U.K. charts during its first week and spun off a Top Five single, "Starry Eyed," which also charted well in Ireland and New Zealand. Later that year, the album was re-released as Bright Lights, featuring seven new recordings (including a cover of Elton John's "Your Song," which peaked at number two). In 2012, Goulding returned with her sophomore album, Halcyon, which showcased an even more sonically adventurous, electro-pop-infused sound. In 2013, a deluxe reissue featuring ten extra songs was released, entitled Halcyon Days, it acted as supplement to the original release. ~ Andrew Leahey & Jason Birchmeier, Rovi / iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2009 53 Under The Sheets -1- 2010 04 Starry Eyed -2- 2010 26 Guns And Horses -3- 2010 19 The Writer -4- 2010 12 Wonderman (Tinie Tempah Feat. March 16, 201412 yr Don't understand why this has flopped so bad for 1D here - It's been huge in all the other countries it's been released in, And reached #12 in the States. Where has it been huge? It has a bunch of high peaks due to being an instant grat, but I don't know of anywhere where it's a proper hit.
March 16, 201412 yr This has taken quite a dip from last week, next week to be the first Ellie Goulding free chart in quite a while then!
March 16, 201412 yr My love for this song as started very late. Although it's wearing off very fast! Good to see "Goodness Gracious" back ahead (I think anyway).
March 16, 201412 yr I know pride is a big thing for the Welsh but this is going a bit too far. I would rant about generalisation, stereotyping and unfunny humour but then I remembered who I was replying to...

Born and raised in Barranquilla, she began performing in school, demonstrating Latin, Arabic, and rock and roll influences and belly dancing abilities. Shakira released her first studio albums, Magia and Peligro, in the early 1990s, failing to attain commercial success; however, she rose to prominence in Latin America with her major-label debut, Pies Descalzos (1996), and her fourth album, Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998). Shakira entered the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service (2001), which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Its lead single, "Whenever, Wherever", became the best-selling single of 2002. Her success was solidified with her sixth and seventh albums Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005), the latter of which spawned the best-selling song of the 21st century, "Hips Don't Lie". Shakira's eighth and ninth albums, She Wolf (2009) and Sale el Sol (2010), received critical praise but suffered from limited promotion due to her strained relationship with label Epic Records. Her official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", became the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time. With over 550 million views, its music video is the eighth most-watched video on YouTube. Since 2013, Shakira has served as a coach on the American version of The Voice, having appeared in two of its six seasons. Shakira has won many awards including five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and she is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time, having sold a total of 125 million records worldwide, over 70 million albums and 55 million singles. Her U.S. album sales stand at 9.9 million. Outside of her work in the music industry, Shakira is also involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and benefit concerts, notably her Pies Descalzos Foundation, her performance at the "Clinton Global Initiative" created by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and her invitation to the Oval Office by President Barack Obama in February 2010 to discuss early childhood development. In 2013, Shakira was listed on Forbes as one of the 100 most powerful women in the world. - Wikipedia Chart history (Year peak title): Shakira 2002 02 Whenever Wherever -1- 2002 03 Underneath Your Clothes -2- 2002 17 Objection (Tango) -3- 2006 09 Don't Bother -1- 2006 01 Hips Don't Lie (Shakira Featuring Wyclef Jean) -2- 2006 34 Illegal (Shakira Feat. March 16, 201412 yr This has taken quite a dip from last week, next week to be the first Ellie Goulding free chart in quite a while then! 37. Ellie Goulding - Goodness Gracious 216. Ellie Goulding - Goodness Gracious :heehee:
March 16, 201412 yr My thoughts so far: That has to be the worst single One Direction have ever released - I don't mind the verses but Louis' bit is annoying and the chorus is poor and weak. There is far better on the album, why they went for that I'll never know. Shakira & Rihanna have hung around for longer than I thought they would!
March 16, 201412 yr 37. Ellie Goulding - Goodness Gracious 216. Ellie Goulding - Goodness Gracious :heehee: Oh. Maybe not then, thought that would be out.
March 16, 201412 yr Don't understand why this has flopped so bad for 1D here - It's been huge in all the other countries it's been released in, And reached #12 in the States. Which other countries do you mean? As far as I can see, it has flopped virtually everywhere charting quite high only for one week upon release... This collaboration is unbearable, I don't get why it's still selling :/
March 16, 201412 yr Don't understand why this has flopped so bad for 1D here - It's been huge in all the other countries it's been released in, And reached #12 in the States. It's had no more than 4 weeks on any official charts other than the UK and Ireland (and is currently charting only in the UK, Ireland, Bulgaria, Portugal and Australia, nowhere higher than #34 in any of those countries) As Rush said, it has a lot of high peaks due to its instant grat sales but it's decidedly not been 'huge' anywhere.
