It's a shame though, she is undeniably a great talent and lovely person. I don't understand why the public haven't really clicked with her, all of her three singles have been fantastic. Ah well, I hope her album does well, I'll be buying it.

The Live Popbars are still suspended for me

try the same address but with livepopbars2 instead.

if anyone else has any questions i am here to help.

also i was very kindly asked to open this thread this week. whichever mod is abusing their power and enforcing capital letters upon the title (and doing so anonymously) could i request you refrain from doing it again. it's not your position to do so.

I think the reason Foxes is doing mediocre is because this was an itunes free track a while ago

It won't have helped but it won't be the only reason, songs like Riptide have managed to go on to do well after being a free single of the week.

Foxes is suffering in the same way as Little Boots did, good pop music but the personality just somehow comes across as being a bit too safe and bland for the media.

i think the foxes song isn't doing particularly well because it really doesn't offer anything new in comparison to her last few singles? it isn't a particularly distinctive nor memorable tune. it's just a very average song and certainly not what you want to be launching an album on. also selecting the track that you offered for free not too long ago isn't going to help.

it seems very strange to me that her label are spending so much more on a very visible promotional campaign. they would have been better off putting some of that money into longer songwriting sessions and perhaps with slightly better producers. what we've ended up with is a dilute, fairly turgid product that nobody particularly wants to listen to and doesn't stand out in anyway. very mediocre lyrically too. add to that a poorly thought out aesthetic campaign. quite frankly ghastly artwork and (excluding 'youth') videos that don't do anything.

of course i don't think she can be counted out just yet. we shall see how the album itself does in a few weeks time...

just a final note on foxes: i think she's an archetypal example of an indie act with a lot of promise suffering with a&r team that simply don't know what to do with her. wrong single choices, misappropriation of image, a general sanding down and over-polishing of the qualities that made her unique in the first place, in the hope of appealing to a mass market and essentially ending up appealing to nobody much.
I do like Holding Onto Heaven but it isn't something I really go back to a lot... It's not a lot more than just 'nice', it's a shame though because there are some much better tracks on the album. White Coats for example <3

Why isn't it a chart mods place to allow some uniformity? Why such a confrontational post, Jake? I think calling it an abuse of power is a bit of an exaggeration.

Why is everybody acting like Foxes is a failure, or struggling, when she's about to get her 5th(?) top 40 hit? That seems pretty good to me tbh. I know it's different with pop acts, but still.

It think it's more that people know she has the potential to do much better.

i think it's very confrontational of somebody to edit my title anonymously without saying anything, for me to change it back and then for them to once more change it. i fail to see what difference my title makes to people.

I don't think it's confrontational for a mod to change a title of a thread to have capitals, so we differ on that point.

I think that it is the place of a mod of a forum to change titled of threads to align with others - the content of the title hadn't changed (and I would see why that might need an explanation) but not changing it to have a capital letter.

Because the title looks odd as it is. They probably changed it for consistency.
