July 2, 201411 yr Looks like Xscape has dropped out of the top40 (according to OCC). Does anybody have any idea where it is?
July 2, 201411 yr It does actually seem that streaming hasn't really affected the chart that much all in all. :o
July 2, 201411 yr It does actually seem that streaming hasn't really affected the chart that much all in all. :o I know right? The fact that Ariana's streaming points are only around 1100 points of the 67000 total points is quite shocking. Other songs have less than 15% of stream from their total points as well. Then again, it's only the first week so, I won't jump into conclusions yet. It's quite similar to when downloads started being counted. The 2005-07 era were very low aside from the Christmas weeks. On the other hand, is 100 streams to 1 sales equivalent too low? Edited July 2, 201411 yr by buzz_person
July 2, 201411 yr On the other hand, is 100 streams to 1 sales equivalent too low?I don't think so, as the OCC said it is based on how much royalties artists get from a stream. I just think that streaming isn't as popular as downloads yet and the charts are simply reflecting this, like how physicals used to be more popular than downloads. In a few years time streaming will have a bigger effect on the chart.
July 2, 201411 yr Thanks for stepping in there Rob. :D Wednesday Updated added to first page. No problem ^_^ Big drops for Example, Usher & Secondcity but not exactly suprising really. Edited July 2, 201411 yr by Rob S
July 2, 201411 yr In a few years time streaming will have a bigger effect on the chart. I think so as well. Streaming was just introduced to the charts, so it will take some time. I think eventually all official charts will integrate streaming data in a few years time. Edited July 2, 201411 yr by buzz_person
July 2, 201411 yr Ed Sheeran will be the album number 1 in the Friday update and will hold there for the rest of the week.
July 2, 201411 yr I think so as well. Streaming was just introduced to the charts, so it will take some time. I think eventually all official charts will integrate streaming data in a few years time. Except Japan.
July 2, 201411 yr on the face of it the addition of streaming seems to have had a muted effect on the chart judging by the mids although i would suggest that streaming data reporting may not be as comprehensive as sales data for the mids ~ offline plays with spotify premium is one example where data comes in as drips and drabs
July 2, 201411 yr Big drops for Example, Usher & Secondcity but not exactly suprising really. Example's drop to 15 is a bit weird though, cos it hasn't left the iTunes Top 10 since Sunday has it?
July 2, 201411 yr Example's drop to 15 is a bit weird though, cos it hasn't left the iTunes Top 10 since Sunday has it? It's not doing particularly well on streaming compared to other songs around it
July 2, 201411 yr Yas at Coldplay!!!! And don't is already top 16 before radio, video and all. Should be big. Edited July 2, 201411 yr by omrimayo
July 2, 201411 yr Author Top 5 single and album sales added. Ed Sheeran's album has sold 13k since yesterday, so on track for another 100k+ this week! Also in regards to Michael Jackson's Xscape, it will more than likely be back in the Top 40 on Sunday.
July 2, 201411 yr We'll only really be able to see how much it has affected the chart at the end of the week when we can compare with the sales only chart. We already know that Sam and Ella would've had an extra week at #1 with streams so some weeks it will have more effect than others.
July 2, 201411 yr YES Coldplay [/late]. Should be pretty safe for top 10 now and quite likely outpeaking 'Magic'! Also continuing their streak of having at least two top ten hits from each album. Interesting that 'Budapest' looks like it might get a new peak this week. I can see it hanging around in the top 10 for a long time. Milky Chance in the top 40 is great too, hope it can climb close to/inside the top 30 or so by the end of the week as it's now in the high 20s on iTunes.
July 2, 201411 yr Streaming isn't THAT big yet over hear. Downloads are still far more popular as the general publics way of getting music. It was never going to make a massive difference to the higher end of the charts (the OCC even said in their trials there was very little difference in the top 10 of the singles chart with the addition of streaming). As time goes on and more people learn about streaming (and if they keep raising download prices which puts people off) it will show more of an influence.
