I hesitate to say it's a 'shame' but it would have been interesting if the chart was still sales only as this could have been Cliff Richard's only chance of further extending his record of appearing in the top 40 in consecutive decades, with 'I Still Believe In You' scraping a #40 re-entry on sales. Would have been potentially awkward if they did have to play that on the chart show! Streaming also saving the awkwardness of another top 40 entry for a fake version.

It's such a shame that Chris Malinchak's amazing song 'Stranger' missed out on a top 40 spot because of streaming... it would have been at number 32 otherwise....Streaming has officially ruined the chart :(

Streaming i must admit has had a far bigger impact on the charts than i ever imagined.

Who knew so many people's enjoyment of the charts was solely limited to one-week low top 40 entries.

I know right. Everything has been ruined now that flash-in-the-pan, forgettable, low new entries to the broadcasted part of the chart are becoming less common.

With the number one spot being predictable (in most cases) weeks in advance, it's often where you see the most interesting new entries/re-entries

And they're still there, just a little bit lower. The sales-only chart is also still freely available if people would prefer to follow that anyway. I'm getting slightly irritated at this continuing overreaction to streaming's impact on the chart.

His last single went {23}-60-OUT, so it's not like the Top 40 exposure got him any longevity or new fans - it wasn't a popular enough hit to capture the public's attention and it'll be chalked down in history exactly the same as it would without streaming incorporated (albeit with a lower peak).

If anything it just encourages artists to promote more to get a higher chart position.

The album chart makes it look rather like Kate Bush has died.

Thankfully its exposure that got Kate sales and not a death, its just wonderful to see her have so many entries on the chart.

most people don't follow charts that closely. All they see is a dull boring top 40 show. Those "forgotten tomorrow" tracks (as someone else commented) include some gems like Naughty Boy and (just clinging in this week) Saint Motel. Being a big hit is no guarantee of quality, and vice versa, loads of timeless classics failed to get high in the charts (or chart at all). I really don't see how music fans can support a chart that fails to promote new music, and yes those one-week entries ARE interesting. Let It Go for 12 months is at best mildly annoying.

 

Sorry, I know there seem to be 2 camps re streaming but I really have yet to see any chart benefits to it as compared to the sales chart, all of the differences are negative. Open challenge to streaming fans - feel free to list any interesting plus-es, MKTO grabbed a few extra Top 40 weeks (when it would have been a short-runner) but I can't see anything else so far....

 

 

Of all the tracks to miss out on top 40 due to streaming, there's only been 2 I've liked. So all the other tracks were replaced with better songs in my opinion.

But this is a forum specifically dedicated to the chart and the people making these comments do follow it closely. And people who don't follow it closely are very unlikely to have noticed the chart being any slower than it already was (because there are only a few changes in the top 40 songs each week).

 

And trying to discover new music via listening to the chart show is a bit of a silly way to do that. The chart show by nature plays the songs that are the most popular, i.e. the songs people are most likely to have already heard.

The only major reason I'm gutted about streaming being added is that it has stopped Cheryl have a very attractive chart run of 1-2-4-8-16.

 

But that would have ended this week anyway, as she certainly wouldn't be 32 on sales only, so I won't hold the grudge too long.
