It was already top 100, went as high as #63 last week, it's dropping now.

That surprises me, but his last album produced some jams (Fu*kin' Problems, Wild for the Night, Goldie), be interesting to see if anything he releases tops those in the UK.

Is Pharrell seriously only at #53 with 'Gust Of Wind'?

I knew X-Factor wasn't as big as it used to be but I would have thought a performance there (by a huge star like Pharrell) would have at least got the song top 40 officially.

Weird two Voice related artists performing on X factor next Sunday..also surprising 1D or Ella Henderson didn't perform last Sunday with new single and album?

No Doubt famously got a song to peak at #397* after an X-Factor performance, so it isn't unheard of.

*Genuinely, this isn't hyperbole.

Surely the difference between these two instances is that Pharrell's "Gust of Wind" is actually a great track. Was expecting to see it glide into the T10, really disappointed so far with the effect. A music video is soon to follow though, and hopefully R1 get behind it - for it to miss out on the T40 while "Happy" is STILL in the T40 would be a real shame.

Pharrell is flopping? Yeah, God exists!

The new track is absolutely dreadful (well, not surprisingly)...

'Looking Hot' was fab.

I think it's harder for a lot of tracks to have a bigger impact if they have to climb from nowhere on iTunes, I was certainly only expecting low top 40 at the very most off the back of this performance anyway.
I guess it depends on whether it catches the public's imagination though, which Taylor and Pharrell clearly didn't. I could still see somebody coming on and 'doing a Beneath Your Beautiful'. Can somebody book The Veronicas please, You Ruin Me seems like a perfect candidate to benefit from the full X Factor awareness boost effect!
Some songs just don't happen, even with X Factor I think. Look at the final last year - Katy Perry and One Direction barely got any boosts with Unconditionally and Midnight Memories (and then 1D waited 3 months to send MM to radio, smart move.....)

I don't think X Factor has never made songs 'happen', even when it was getting a fifteen million+ a week. All it's given them is a boost, songs that would've been huge number 1 hits have got there anyway with perhaps a small spike in sales they can attribute to XF, songs that were looking like small hits may get at least a temporary boost and a higher peak but nothing huge in the long run, and songs that were always destined to be flops would still pretty much flop, see Jamiroquai, No Doubt etc.

The only exception that comes to mind is (as mentioned) Labrinth and Emeli Sande's song, which XF did definitely seem to give a new lease of life.

Anyone know what the John Lewis song (which will inevitably be top 10 next month) is this season? The last 2 by Lily & Gabrielle Aplin were absolute classics!

Emeli Sandé's doing a piano-based cover of Gala's 90s dance hit "Freed From Desire. This may or may not be untrue.

NOOOOOO! NO NO NO NO NO.

This must NOT happen, 'Freed From Desire' is a sacred 90s classic!

Even the big tracks... Taylor Swift went from #3 to, err, #3.

X-Factor just isn't as big as it used to be (thank god).

I remember way back when it used to not always guarantee a huge effect for tracks that had to climb from nowhere, I remember Shakira and Kylie Minogue both performed singles on there which charted low top 40.

...there's no limit?

OH YESSSSS! *.*

I can however see Ed going to number 1 once he performs 'Thinking Out Loud' at some point. What a bizarre chart run that will have if it does happen! :o
