Surely the tie breaker system is pointless now anyway. Streaming data surely ensures it's almost impossible for a song to tie? Even in lower regions.

Well, I forgot about that completely! Kind of still is fractional sales though, just in a different way. That actually makes sense.

I imagine they still use the old fractional sales system on top of that anyway just to make it even more implausible for a tie to happen. They certainly still use it for albums anyway as there was a 'tie' at #6/7 a few weeks back which MW said was broken by fractional sales.

Well the "chart sales" get rounded - so ties can still happen, but yes, agreed that they are resolvable using fractional streaming "chart sales".
It's not impossible, just highly improbable :D

And yet it was announced #4 was 1 copy ahead of #5 :D

Ironically, it's the closest instance since Of The Night was 15 copies ahead at #1 last year.

Yeah it surely still has use for the albums. At least until streaming is introduced to the album chart :jump:

How is that anything even close to 'ironic'?

Still don't understand 'rounded' and 'fractional' sales

One stream is equivalent to 0.01 sales for chart purposes. All sales are rounded to the nearest whole number when published. The old fractional sales system is an artefact from when sales were multiplied up from a sample of a small number of shops.

Which will never happen :jump:

Which will probably happen next year :P

I don't see why it would, not even the USA have done that. I know it is done in some countries but the OCC are clearly very cautious about changing their methodologies, I really can't see them adding streaming to the album chart any time soon.

Watermat isn't going to make the top 10 is it?
Maybe it should have been released.. I don't know, say about 3 months ago.

I doubt it would have done any better at all if it had. It's not exactly been a big hit elsewhere (only charted in Belgium and, barely, the Netherlands). Realistically the number of people who have known about 'Bullit' since before it started getting airplay here is negligible.

So the vinyl release for Cheek to Cheek hasn't helped it much then? :nocheer: Meanwhile its US chart run is 01-04-04 which is kind
I do hope that Cheek to Cheek can move back into the top 40 next week after their Strictly performance, providing it doesn't fall too much this week. It's a lovely album; it's a shame to see it not performing that well.
