Ed or Calvin maybe or Gareth Malone judging by the pre order performance. Can't see Tom Odell getting to #1 with this. Although top 10 should be certain.

It's between Gareth Malone and Tom Odell. I'm rooting for Tom Odell. It would be good to see him get his first Number 1. :)
I would absolutely LOVE it to be Tom Odell, him getting a #1 would be such a fantastic moment, can't see it though. Probably Ed but it's wide open!
I predict Thinking Out Loud to ruin all the fun of a competitive week :magic:

The #1 will probably be Ed Sheeran imo.

Wouldn't rule out Tom though since the John Lewis song got #1 pretty fast last year iirc. Could be Gareth's song, but charity songs tend to not do that well recently.

Will probably be: Ed Sheeran (wouldn't rule out Gareth Malone though....*shivers*)

Deserves to be: Kendrick Lamar (I'd be over the moon if he gets top 40 at least tho)

but indeed nice that things are looking a little more competitive now. Tom Odell and The Veronicas will be likely top 10 entries (and Sam Smith too after his XF performance). The week after looks even more interesting with Olly Murs, Clean Bandit and David Guetta tossed into the mix

And especially since Guetta has released something mildly interesting with Dangerous. Although both him & Clean Bandit have been hammered for a month on radio 1 already, seems like they should have been released already!

I bet The Veronicas end up at No.11 or something with all this last minute stuff appearing... :drama:

Anything but Ed Sheeran would be great but sadly I think Cheryl could do it this week and Ed the week after :(

I'd love to see the CIN track get to number one and seeing as its CIN night that Friday it could give it a weekend boost and the TV show concludes on Monday night so I think it's got a chance

I'm quite convinced Gareth Malone et al are going to do it, especially with the TV programme on Monday (the similar programme for 'Sing' propelled it from its rather average first week to massive sales at #1 in its second). CIN will give it another boost at the end of the week too. Failing that Tom Odell could be in with a decent shot.

Going by the previous two John Lewis songs, if Tom Odell gets #1 it will be on the week before Christmas with low sales.

As for the #1 next week, probably Ed Sheeran if it's not the Children in Need single. I'd probably rather Ed Sheeran take it as I'm not keen on this version of 'Wake Me Up' and I can't see it hanging around very long at all.

Voted Thinking Out Loud - surely the song that will dominate the rest of 2014. Think it will still be top 10 in February/March time.
I want it to be Outside so I voted for that. It wont though so I am not fussed on any of the others

Looking at the list of pre orders I can see Gareth Malone and others taking it, I don't think the John Lewis track is really that good when compared to previous years, and as Bre said there is the second part of the Gareth Malone thingy on Monday. Mind you I can't see the track having a long chart run, a la Ellie Goulding style from last year.

Probably the week after Calvin might get a shot, this is the period when sales are pretty low as well as Liam hit on above, as I remember the Katie Melua track was released around this time a couple of years back.

I wonder if Rihanna drops anything soon :o

Lily Allen got to #1 before that week (then went back to #1 for two more weeks during the sales lull).

I completely forgot it spent more than a week at #1, but now you mention it I do remember how it spent 2 weeks at #6 immediately after two at #1 which everyone thought was unusual.
