They are completely different in terms of their tone, pace, feel, structure, vocal etc.

 

For a start 'Love Me Harder' is 99 BPM, 'Break Free' is 130 BPM...

 

They're not really completely different are they... My original point was that Love Me Harder comes across as a lesser Break Free. Perhaps part of the reason its "underperforming" is because the music-buying public regard it that way ;)

 

I accept its not straight-out EDM but its hardly R&B either.

I hope Hozier can keep climbing and achieve yet another new peak. Take me to the church is a real grower, its been a huge hit here in Ireland and has spent well over a year on the chart here but its only the last 2-3 months that I have started to love the song. Its UK sales are building nicely which is great and good to see his album back in the top 40.

It was the same for me, I didn't mind it at first though, I just didn't pay much attention. Then it came back around as a big WW hit and I listened more and now I love it and I really hope it can go top 10.

Times like these I really want to be in the UK... the occasional $5 (equivalent to about 3 pounds) deal for an 1-year-old album just doesn't cut it.

To go against the grain, Take Me To Church hit me hard on the first listen but then it was also the first time I saw the incredibly powerful video so perhaps that's why it had more of an instant impact. I always thought it could be a pretty big hit but it's far exceeded even my high expectations for it. A UK top ten would be the icing on the cake, it really needs to make it up that way asap.

Take Me To Church needs to disappear ASAP. A bad itch of a song if ever there was one...

Take Me To Church is this years sleeper hit isn't it?? Its bound to get heavy radio rotation for the foreseeable too - it just has that feel.

I'm glad Hozier has maintained his presence in the top 40 as I was disappointed radio 1 only Blisted it, it's an amazing track. I was the opposite for me when I first heard it I loved it immediately. It was No1 on my personal chart in February this year.

 

I think it being a hit in the US has helped it do well on spotify and therefore a creeper hit in the chart!
