Yes, but if the track is bought as opposed to being pre-ordered with the album then it will be eligible to chart.

Yet another slow week for new releases. This has to be the most boring year for music ever.

 You are aware we're only 6wks into 'this' year?

Assuming there's 6 new entries (could even be more if Taylor/Florence make it) in today's chart I make that 23 new entries since the turn of the year. Pretty sure that's higher than the past few years even with streaming included...

Taylor was 69 in the mids though so I doubt she'll have risen 30 places unfortunately. Florence could well sneak in there but I doubt it.

Hopefully ID will hold top 30 even if they are #30.

Yes I am, but it feels like it's been really quiet for new music charting in the Top 40. :(

It's actually been a lot more active and exciting start to the year than 2014 in terms of new music, however none of it is reaching the Top 40.

It's pretty boring for the charts so far but this year is looking set to be possibly my favourite year ever for new music. (Bearing in mind I've only been paying attention to music since 2009).
Fair enough. I didn't realise quite so many were released early on I initially thought late Feb/March for a lot of the lower half of that list!
Wait? What happened to Bars and Actual Melody?

Maybe its because the charts feel less relevant than ever? The inclusion of streaming has slowed down the chart making them seem more stale than before.

Also more underground acts and genres like grime, hip hop and more probably feel breaking into the chart seem more remote than ever. So they make music they are passionate about rather than a more watered-down version with one eye on charting. I've heard plenty of new music, but most of it will never chart.

Must admit early 2014 felt like a busier time though.

It's only boring for music if you only follow the charts. I stopped caring about the charts years ago and for me music gets better each year. There's always more of it and it's so easily accessible wherever you are these days. Whatever type of music you enjoy there's no reason not to find a tonne of new stuff you like if you care for it. So far this year I've downloaded 62 singles. I'd be surprised if more than about two of them have made, or will make, the top 100.

There were other years which I thought were really boring too in the first few months. I think 2011 was one of them, I remember songs like Yeah 3x, Champion, Price Tag spending absolutely ages in the top 10 just because there was nothing else going on. The last few months of 2011 were a huge let-down too, since 2009 and 2010 were so chaotic during X Factor season, and I expected it to be like that every year, but in 2011 there wasn't much happening. There was a week where Read All About It and Earthquake were released, and One Direction and JLS had hit singles, but I can't remember much else. I think Olly Murs had a song climb to #1, or was that a different year? My point is, this isn't the first time, and it could get better in a few months, although I think with streaming the chart is going to be slow forever now.

The charts aren't that important anyway. Ever since I stopped listening to Capital/Heart regularly I never hear half the songs anymore. Even last year there was a song called Budapest which almost got in the year-end top 10 and I've still never heard it.

Hurrah for Ayo being pushed out of the top ten.
Kelly back in the top 300 on pre orders, before R1 playlisting & GN too :cheer: (although I'm not huge on the song compared to her other lead singles)

Kiss have just picked it up, too. Should be a top ten for sure. She should whack it on Spotify now.
