^^ I guess momentum was high last year and they wanted maximum impact from the single. I can see us getting a re-issued vinyl this year with XMAS added without much fanfare, I think they’ll just want

Delighted with this as I half resigned myself to her ending up at number 2 today, the UK once again coming through for Kylie.

Looking forward to seeing the official sales and what the final sales gap was.

Music Week:

A decade after Kylie Christmas reached No.12 for Kylie Minogue, its 10th anniversary is marked by the release of Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped), which dashes to a No.1 debut on consumption of 23,279 units (10,125 CDs, 9,510 vinyl albums, 1,441 cassettes, 1,057 digital downloads and 1,146 sales-equivalent streams). It becomes the first album of seasonal material to reach No.1 for a female solo artist since Susan Boyle topped with The Gift in 2010.

The original Kylie Christmas has already undergone several incarnations, and the Fully Wrapped edition has both omissions and additions, most pertinently showcasing new tracks Hot In December, This Time Of Year and Office Party and Amazon-exclusive XMAS. Ineligible to be combined with the previous releases, it is Minogue’s 22nd Top 10, and 11th No.1 in an album chart career that spans 37 years. Her previous No.1s: studio albums Kylie (1988), Enjoy Yourself (1989), Fever (2001), Aphrodite (2010), Golden (2018), Disco (2020), Tension (2023), Tension II (2024) and compilations Greatest Hits (1992) and Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection (2019).

One of 17 acts to have 10 or more No.1 albums hitherto, the 57-year-old is now one of 12 to have 11 or more – with just seven acts ahead of her – and the only Australian. In all of its previous incarnations, Kylie Christmas has total consumption of 176,868 units.

Interestingly Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) performed really poorly on streaming, it’s not even top 100 on the streaming album chart (Disco peaked at #14, Tension at #11 and Tension II at #58)

It will most likely enter in the next 2 weeks as Christmas streams increases, but it’s still surprising.

Kylie Christmas actually sold slightly more on vinyl than Tension II did!

The highest weekly sale for the original album was about 23k (estimation, think it might have been just under, so this reissue has outdone that).

I've noticed that Kylie has had more albums this decade than any other decade to date:

1980s:

Kylie

Enjoy Yourself

1990s:

Greatest Hits

2000s:

Fever

2010s:

Aphrodite

Golden

Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection

2020s:

Disco

Tension

Tension II

Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped)

More in the past 6 years than the first 30 years!

I can see her overtaking Madonna’s total of #1s at some point, going by the rate both artists release albums. Madonna’s currently one ahead, should probably go #1 with her album next year, but maybe Kylie could overtake by end of decade?

Since Kylie's signed a contact with BMG, they've gone all out to ensure that every album goes to #1. And they all have.

She easily has more in her and also a great chance at overtaking madonna.

Go all out on tension live and aim for another.

spotify didn't support

Whilst I’d love for madge to have a no1 album with confessions pt 2, does she have as loyal a fan base as K these days, at least in the UK? Album sales are low so if she releases mid year’idh, a 25-30K should take it to no1. But not sure if she has the fan base as shes been away for so long from the music scene.

Anyway came in here to say I’m still in disbelief at KC hitting no1 . Kudos to Kylie, the mgmt team and her label for the flawless execution. This label has been amazing to Kylie. Wish she’d gone to them directly during the KMO era!

I do agree that K might overtake Madge in terms of UK no1 albums. Esp if the current album environment and policies continues.

The vinyl revival hadn’t really kicked in for KMO and the original KC and Snow Queen though it was crazy how BMG turned it around by early 2018 for Golden. They really maximised the cassette sales for that one though it seems that fad has already receded massively.

The cassette trend was niche but feels like it’s definitely in decline now.

The KC cassette was £13 (cheaply made but nice collectors item) and has sold out, they should stick to that formula - a limited cassette that sells out rather than throwing 10 out.

i liked the 4 cassettes for £20 offer and £6 individually. They are cute but £13........

Charts

UK #1

Scotland #1

Australia #4

Ireland #40

The Netherlands #47

Italy #81

Download Chart #1

Physical Chart #1

Vinyl Chart #1

Record Store Chart #1

I think the cassettes were mainly sold because of the signed bundles. The cheapest signed bundle was the CD/ Cassette so I'd imagine most bought the signed bundles that included the cassette.

Yep a cheap bundle offer would still work if they said just 1000 bundles available. Maybe chart rules have changed so they have to be offered individually too but if they priced them £10 each or all 4 for £20 then surely fans would snag the bundle.

Anyway as has been said they seem to have worked out the demand for store variants a bit better as the Gold CD, Cassette and Candy Cane all sold out only during release week. Am sure the pop up vinyl will sell out soon. Can’t be many left.

Amazon have plenty of their exclusive versions which is useful this week for the few extra sales after people watch strictly etc….plus there’s the red versions too which will be discounted I guess in future. The indie store marble is spread across retailers and will trickle sell over time. As we know outside of release week physical sales drop like a rock unless it’s a special variant or your name is Taylor Swift. Even Adele wasn’t immune they thought she’d break all vinyl sales records but they overestimated her core stanbase by a huge amount and left with mountains of 30 even after reducing the double heavyweight gatefold to a tenner ha ha.

Expect they tore through quite a bit of stock with the Banquet signing. I’ve still not had a despatch for my signed items but think it said on the blurb it’ll take a while.

I'd be very surprised if confessions 2 doesn't go number 1 for madonna unless shes unlucky and releases in a very competitive week.

Kylie releases more frequent which positions her well to overtake madonna plus bmg have nailed all of kylies releases which is a huge help.
