I’m not suggesting a confudence vote in the government, I’m suggesting a no confidence vote in the leadership so not sure if you are getting confused. I do think there will be a level of public outrage over this in the coming weeks and it’s only a matter of time before his MPs turn on him. He clearly can’t answer the allegations for clearly incriminating himself so he’s guilty as hell.

Yeah but again, Starmer isn't going to call for that as the Tories are not going to suddenly have a no confidence vote in Johnson's leadership if Starmer says so. That's for the Conservative Party to decide. Starmer should stay well aware from the internal Tory Party politics, cos they will self destruct themselves. Plus at this point in time from a Labour perspective, you probably want Johnson in power as long as possible.

So Allegra Stratton is offered as the sacrificial lamb - her speech appeared a bit drama school. She is very well connected so won't suffer financially. Another Press conference at 6pm - is that Johnson's resignation by any happy chance? We can but hope but unlikely.

Stratton was, of course, hired on a six-figure salary to front a daily televised press conference as Johnson's spokesperson. That post was scrapped when it occurred to Johnson that there might be some awkward questions, such as ones about illegal parties at Downing Street. She was given a new job as press spokesperson for COP26. She largely disappeared apart from the two weeks of the Glasgow conference and then disappeared again. She has, therefore, been paid a six-figure sum for two weeks' work.

Boris emergency press conference at 6.

Let's not convict folks until we have all the evidence. Not a resigning matter anyway. He probably didn't know it was happening. May have already left.

So you’re saying he wouldn’t have noticed a party had taken place the next day? That it wouldn’t have gotten back to him via other ministers? Seriously, you’re ridiculous.

So you think the staff will have gone ahead with a party without permission from the PM?

Dougie “4 Jobs” Ross has said Boris has to resign if he mislead parli about knowing about this party. SNP pulling a blinder there managing to extract that position from the football ref without even having to goad it out of him at FMQs. Well done Ian Blackford

If he was to come to your house and stab you in the neck, as you lay bleeding to death would you even then defend Boris to the cops who caught him knife in bloody hand? Or is there a line somewhere where he will do something you won’t blindly stand behind like a sheep?

I am not blindly defending Boris but I wasn't there and no-one here was either. It shouldn't be a resigning matter anyway. How many others broke the rules last December? I know some that did and bet you do too. Let's arrest them all or better still let's forget last year and get on with our lives now.

If a policeman robbed a bank, is that not a resigning matter because other people do it anyway?

How can we forget and move on with our lives when they have just announced new restrictions on the public?

I would imagine it’s hard to move on when people have sacrificed so much over the last two years whilst these hypocrites were doing whatever they liked and joking about it. People who did not see their dying relatives for the greater good, people who went through first time pregnancies without parental support, people who watched funerals over a weblink. Even the Queen sat alone at her own husband’s funeral.

What makes it so much worse is that it was this time last year they launched the ‘look into their eyes and tell them you’re following the rules’ campaign. Placing the blame on us. This is disgusting. The more we ignore it, the more they’ll do it.

You’re a troll or just really dim. Not that this is news.

That’s your opinion about it not being a resigning matter but I think there will be lots who disagree with you. Do you think members of the public who have lost relatives to covid or been in hospital seriously ill on a ventilator will find that video funny?

Johnson is hardly the most honest person and his lack of openness suggests he has something to hide. He must have known about a party in his own home and why would a press secretary be seen on video joking about it if it never happened. Just like Johnson tried to cover up the Cummings incident too. Shocking and appalling.

I for one had to spend Christmas all by myself last year, I was prevented from seeing my loved ones because of Tier 4 restrictions THEY imposed, while all this was going on.

You truly are a contemptible human being, you disgust me to my very core.

Other people breaking the rules is hardly a reason to try and justify it or excuse it. Government ministers are in a position of trust and breaking the rules during a National pandemic should come with consequences just like it does in other professions such as nursing, social work etc.

Allegra Stratton is clearly being used as a scapegoat for this appalling government, but I have zero sympathy for her.

I am not your beloved Boris. I haven’t broken any covid rules

I will admit it’s easier to follow the rules when you’re governed by someone with morals and ethics and who actually knows how to tell the truth. And, as of this afternoon, an actual Doctor is my health minister. I’ve had sensible and logical rules throughout that I have more than complied with and still do comply with because unlike the eejit you have a shrine of, Merkel and now Scholz have kept restrictions in place like mask wearing, that has made it significantly easier to scale up again for a difficult winter.

The man lied to the public and parliament and undermined public trust in the government and in public health measures in the middle of a pandemic. If this was normal times a party wouldn’t be a resigning matter. But in the middle of a pandemic, to destroy the credibility of the gov and faith in measures to keep people safe? If he had even a single atom of integrity he would fall on his sword, for the good of the country and their health in this still ongoing pandemic.

The work no but parties yes is frankly nonsensical.

The Express is the only paper whose front page this morning is broadly pro-Johnson. Even the FT, which usually plays down such matters, has been carrying the story prominently on its front page.
