Do you all realise that those deported were guilty of criminal offences such as manslaughter, rape and dealing Class a Drugs. None were British Citizens so it was right to deport them back to their own country.

A court order denied the government the right. When the legislature assumes total control, guess what happens? Dictstorship.

They lived here all their lives btw. The mentality you are showing is the same mentality behind penal colonies. Disgraceful. Hang your head in shame.

Do you realise that e are talking about people who have lived here since they were small children? British citizens or not, this is their home. These people are effectively having their sentence increased by politicians rather than judges.

Sorry I didn't know they'd lived here so long.

I think this is awful of the Government. Well, all Tory mp's.

A split question was defeated by them.

That this house:

1) Thanks the volunteers, services, etc etc etc for all their sterling work in the floods, etc etc

Fine.

2) Suggesting that the govt should be learning lessons for the next time, etc etc etc.

NOT fine so both voted down by the Tories. :(

Not surprising lol and what's their policy on provision of council housing again....
It’s amazing that they need to be shamed by a footballer in order to do the humane thing but at least it’s a victory.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I don't suppose Matt Hancock will want to be reminded of what he said about footballers a couple months ago.

That whole episode was really uncalled for. Footballers get paid way more than they should, I'm sure they would be the first to admit that. But they've actually done a lot of good to support the crisis and as shown already there will be curved spending and cuts across football because of the pandemic too.

Totally agree it shouldn't need the impact of a footballer to do the right thing. The cost is minimal in the grand scheme of things as well.

And it’s also ridiculous to suggest that footballers pick up the slack during a pandemic when Hancock himself is not readily handing out his own enormous pay packet to help out.
At least this Government isn't afraid to admit they were wrong and do a U-turn. Well done Boris.

I’m still waiting for them to admit everything else they’ve done wrong tho.

If my understanding is correct (I'm sure someone can Fact check this), then this is the first time ever that a UK government has provided free school meals to children during school holidays, particularly during the summer holidays. If that's the case, you better believe the Tories are going to put this spin on this in the days ahead, "We've done something that Labour never did" etc.

Interesting to note - of the 20 seats with the greatest % of pupils requiring free school meals, only 3 of them are held by the Conservatives (of which 2 were only won in 2019), which might explain a) why it hadn't come up on their radar until now, and b) why they made the u-turn they did, in the hope of holding on to some of those seats.

don't give them any ideas :')

I don't disagree, but whenever things return to near normality, and we're no longer in the middle of all this, the Tories are definitely going to Lord this over Labour at any point they can.
Will this happen every year now?

No. We just can't afford it. Have you seen the rise in unemployment figures today? Extra benefits needed equals less to spend elsewhere.

Don't know what positive spin you can put on it, when you have been in power for 10 years. If you try that angle it's a massive own goal in my opinion and that's what I'm sure Labour would come back with.
