I just watched part 1 of the highlights show on ITV+1 and it's really sad to see how things have gotten now with the Champions League coverage. The highlights show itself has to be split in two just to allow the news to be on for 45 minutes and then when it comes to the actual recaps of the matches everything is really really brief. It's even more brief than the way that highlights were show last season on ITV.

 

I hope that when the voting for the rights for Champions League coverage takes place next that it isn't awarded to BT Sport again.

Not much has changed from the last few years though. ITV only had one live game per week, now they have none. As for future years, it is likely that Sky will bid for exclusive rights against BT. I suspect we won't see the Champions League on ITV (or BBC) again without a change in the law.

I think all four English teams will make it out of the group still, but all except Chelsea in second. Good job Liverpool didn't make it again or we would be losing that fourth spot!

 

What's incredible is that all three losing English teams lost in a completely predictable way. City never looked like breaking down Juve once they went behind. United were toothless. Arsenal were just Arsenal.

I doubt myself too that ITV/BBC will ever show live Champions League football again without the Champions League being included in Ofcom's protected sporting events.

Last season the English teams lost six out of 24 Champions League games and now we could lose five out of six already.

I can't see Arsenal recovering after their second defeat and they face the champions in the next 2 games, they need something spectacular.

I really hope Arsenal finish 3rd in their group. Arsenal have been flirting with Europa League football for many years but they've managed to dodge it either by finishing 3rd in the premier League or finishing 4th and winning the Champions League play-off match. They will eventually get what is coming to them and hopefully after Christmas Thursday nights will never be the same again for them.
