Posted October 16, 20159 yr http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/bjsc%20vi_zpsvwgftbhr.png Hosted in Séyetana's small pop-loving metropolis Lautianna (yes, I have a lot of cities I will bring forward to host stuff, just gimme a rock spinoff to host in Holpionikkillua *.*), we bring you the next Reloaded to see which of these tracks has held up the best in the modern day. Although if you look at that lineup you may be forgiven for thinking that new music wasn't the focus, rather the standard modus operandi of sending an old chart hit from a few years ago that people had """"forgotten"""" about was still very much in force because there's a lot of that in here (for reference this contest originally took place in May 2008). And a couple of future hits. I fear the odds of us not having a cheap winner here are quite low (#votefordiscoveries). The thing is, I've said before now I won't even vote for Bring Me To Life even though it's in my top 10 of all time but looking at that list, are there even enough inspired songs to make up votes here if I stick to that? However, this leads us to talk about the biggest inspired song from here, and the one that's ultimately become the most important in the history of the contest, is FSR Rontvia's Untouched - Smack Me, a completely unknown artist and song coming 5th surrounded by the company of much more well-known artists. Once it became clear that an inspired song could do so well, the true purpose of the contest began to make itself known, rather than go in for short-term glory with sure thing songs, search for songs people hadn't heard and get far more satisfaction from smashing with them if they were good enough. So, this is the contest where inspiration started. Will it do well again? Other highlights include the hilarity of a non-English Westlife song (time for Leonville/Camtoro to get another nul pointer - but then it originally got at least ELEVEN points not from Camtoro!!!), Camtoro entering the group Leonville entered last time to no suspicion whatsoever, flop winner Katharine McPhee showing up again, Lex entering Russell Brand, and of course, originally, AaronTM's debut entry of Beverley Knight coming from behind (I've checked the original odds thread) to become one of the biggest shock winners of the contest, as well as being relatively inspired for this field. And that was probably for the best, for the long-term health of the contest, that exciting things like that could happen. As well as twice-winners Quotosibb, we also see the debuts of other twice-winners Herzebania, future regular then occasional entrants Sangria and Dalisska and the relatively unknown Dulpaen. How will they fare on this runthrough? ~~~~~ true experienced commentary from Qassandra below ~~~~~~ As has been trailed for what feels like a good three years now, VI was a turning point for the BJSC, and was probably the first real milestone in terms of marking the contest as something most participants would recognise today. True to an era of Buzzjack where the most popular emoticons by far were :kink: and :smoke:, it was a milestone caused by a shamelessly tacky hi-NRG track about spanking. Despite the uptick in participation for V, we still thought the actual activity that came as a result indicated a contest on the decline that probably wasn't worth the effort of running monthly. With the contest still fairly closely attached to the Eurovision Song Contest as a subforum, it was decided that it be switched to once every two months, at least for the period of that year's Eurovision to begin with. That was until gooddelta flicked through a MusicWeek demo CD and found a track called Smack Me by unsigned Liverpudlian duo Untouched which...well, the appeal is obvious. Rich argued that there was plenty of time to have a contest without treading on Eurovision's toes and the BJSC was duly restored to a monthly rate, as (for all but two months since) it has stayed since. However, another big change came with another entrant getting overexcited about what they'd sent. Without wishing to be BIASED, the UTTERLY FUCKING CORKING Opium was entered by Kopečka and I was CONVINCED it was going to win. In my naturally reserved state I embarked on a little casual promo, which gave us the first contest which had something resembling a community feel - active odds threads, a green room, and (of course DEEPLY EMBARRASSING but nonetheless fairly fun at the time) media roleplay within the BJSC universe. The third big change came in me being proven wrong. Not in THAT sense (though of course me being wrong is an event in itself), but in the sense that we were all wrong as Black Butta, a live performance of an unheralded album track by the deeply unfashionable Beverley Knight totally stormed to victory, with a Lily Allen demo in second - though inevitably something had to ruin it, and Evanescence finished third with a horrendously obvious entry even more well remembered at the time than it is now. As the first truly inspired bolt from the blue winner that most people would have never heard without the contest, it naturally sparked interest. But there was also a growing trend for the contest's higher profile entries to be discoveries - Black Butta, Smack Me and Opium all tracks average members hadn't been familiar with before, and I Don't Know still over half a year away from being transformed into #1 smash The Fear (and certainly not considered cheap at the time). There were still 'classic track' entries - they still made up two of the top five - but their time was starting to fade. VI in itself wasn't the greatest of contests, but without it we never would have had the greatest of contests. Whether that came with the one that came after this is up for debate, but VI certainly prepared the ground for VII to send the contest stratospheric. 01. http://i60.tinypic.com/wb7xfr.png Federal Republic Of Ashton: 02. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/faztickle_zpsnvi6pjt4.png Faztickle: 03. http://i60.tinypic.com/tao3go.png Bhangra: Fragma - Toca's Miracle 04. http://i60.tinypic.com/33o1hs9.png Utopia: 05. http://i60.tinypic.com/snkv2x.png Cascadia : Björk - Earth Intruders 06. http://i59.tinypic.com/j584dh.png Triodopolis: 07. http://i57.tinypic.com/2qckzll.png Bokia: 08. http://i62.tinypic.com/v6i7f6.png Land Of Jack: 09. http://i58.tinypic.com/153taat.png New Lexico: 10. http://i62.tinypic.com/o7vf48.png Kylienips: 11. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/quotosibb_zps2ux66ydl.png Quotosibb: 12. http://i60.tinypic.com/ncjdr6.png FKA Π: 13. http://i62.tinypic.com/29yqv79.png Angelicland: 14. http://i58.tinypic.com/opyb0n.png Farahtyn: 15. http://i60.tinypic.com/28m2o9.png Leonville: Westlife - Con Lo Bien Que Te Ves 16. http://i59.tinypic.com/12173gp.png FSR Rontvia: 17. http://i58.tinypic.com/xdry11.png Camtoro :- Tokio Hotel - 1000 Meere 18. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/dulpaen_zps0kysyyiv.png Dulpaen: 19. http://i62.tinypic.com/2renp05.png Mdice: 20. http://i57.tinypic.com/9u64wp.png Xanaga: 21. http://i59.tinypic.com/id536x.png Qärenfanghoney: 22. http://i62.tinypic.com/103wnrl.png Rivandia: 23. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/sangria_zps5dwjiywp.png Sangria: NOX - Ébredj fel! 24. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/herzebania_zpsneq8zbix.png Herzebania: 25. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/dalisska_zpsztbnasee.png Dalisska: 26. http://i57.tinypic.com/2czszr9.png Tapatilandia: Kraak & Smaak - Squeeze Me 27. http://i60.tinypic.com/qst8q1.png Kingdom Of Shadow: 28. http://i60.tinypic.com/ilklzm.png Simondly: N-Trance/Kelly Llorenna - Set You Free 29. http://i57.tinypic.com/fcjzw3.png Botanikka: The Cardigans - My Favourite Game **originally entered as the demo version, called 'I Don't Know' This is the original running order of the contest, because yeah, I'm too lazy to head over to random.org. October 16, 20159 yr Smack Me is so much more important than that. There's a reason the contest is split at this contest into the Pre/Post-Untouched eras. If it wasn't for Smack Me then it is likely that this contest would have been delayed by a month and probably would have just faded away. It brought in a new wave of participants and enthusiasm. BJSC wouldn't be the same without Smack Me
October 16, 20159 yr I've never took part in these but I've seen them around. The Fear  if I get the chance I may take part in this ;)
October 16, 20159 yr I shall vote in this, if only to try and prevent Hide & Seek from flopping too much~
October 16, 20159 yr I know who Mattias will give his 12 to Also YAAAS SEYETANA SHOW HA HALLOWEEN SPIRIT
October 16, 20159 yr Author um ADVANCE WARNING WOULD'VE BEEN NICE IZ I sent you a PM last night! Maybe it just didn't get through.
October 16, 20159 yr I already know 12 of these songs  (admittedly I only know of Black Butta from listening to all the BJSC winners) This will be fun seeing if any discoveries make it to my top 10.
October 16, 20159 yr I sent you a PM last night! Maybe it just didn't get through. So you did! This is becoming an issue. Anyway COMMENTARY INCOMING
October 17, 20159 yr I know who Mattias will give his 12 to There are several things that you could possibly be referring to :o Tell me. I have a feeling I won't vote in this tbh, I'll see. Edited October 17, 20159 yr by Mattias
October 18, 20159 yr Smack Me is so much more important than that. There's a reason the contest is split at this contest into the Pre/Post-Untouched eras. If it wasn't for Smack Me then it is likely that this contest would have been delayed by a month and probably would have just faded away. It brought in a new wave of participants and enthusiasm. BJSC wouldn't be the same without Smack MeI joined the next contest due to AaronTM (I think it was him, it'd make sense as he was host) pm'ing me and asking very nicely if I'd join. I had NO idea prior to this as to what this contest was or anything  Then I think I confided in Rich and got him to tell me slightly more stuff about it. Nothing to do with 'Untouched'! :kink:
October 21, 20159 yr Voted. As per the original contest I've plumped for the inspired stuff (lots of lovely non cheap stuff to go around in this final). As much as they are three of my all time favourite songs, hopefully we won't end up with a final three of N-Trance, Fragma and The Cardigans. Not including Lily and Adele in this as the former was long before the song was released as a single and the latter was big but was still playing second fiddle to Duffy at the time and wasn't exactly an all conquering global force yet.

Black Butta was followed by a Lily Allen demo in second - though inevitably something had to ruin it, and Evanescence finished third with a horrendously obvious entry even more well remembered at the time than it is now.
