Sky saying most cinemas, theatres, leisure centres, many restaurants and cafes and Euro Disney will be closed today. So hardly normal routine for Paris today.

One of my closest friends is in Paris right now so that was pretty scary (he is safe).

Hopefully alarm bells will start ringing now (most likely not). I absolutely hate this PC and wait-and-see attitude of Europe.

Awful, horrific.

I very much doubt that Tuesday's match between England and France friendly will go ahead when football will be the last thing on their mind.

The deadliest attack in Europe since the 2004 Madrid bombings.

EDIT: According to BBC, it's now 128 people known to have died.

I've literally just heard about this, was out and quite out of it last night. Such horrific news to wake up to. My heart completely goes out to those in Paris.

I hate it when things like this happen. So many people heartlessly murdered, my cousins' grandmother (their other one, not the one we have in common) have a house in Paris, though thankfully she was apparently in Clermont-Ferrand at the time. However, with borders closed my grandparents are stuck in Spain and my forthcoming trip to Germany could be cancelled.

And of course, R.I.P. to all the victims.

What's even worse is that this reinforces the idea of getting rid of immigrants and gives them, and Islam (which is actually supposed to be one of the most tolerant religions around) a bad name. How such heinous things can actually occur is shocking.

Awful, horrific.

I think it is already cancelled.

Terrible loss of life. I have every sympathy for communities trying to get equality in the world but I have no sympathy whatsoever for individuals who feel the way to make their sad lives meaningful is to brutally murder innocent people and deprive others of basic equality and freedom.

Sadly, I have spent my entire life seeing one atrocity after another committed by human beings, and nothing ever changes except the venues. Radio 2 just played Melting Pot by Blue Mink, a record which is as relevant to 2015 as it was to 1969 in it's sentiment.

Regarding Donald Trump: more Americans are murdered by fellow Americans in one year BY FAR than all terrorist attacks in the western world put together. Not that he's very good with basic facts, or common human decency, he's a filthy rich billionaire intent on getting even richer and more powerful. Like most rich greedy men all he sees is he's getting a hard on from increasing his wealth, and has no regard for fellow human beings who struggle their entire lives. Loathesome, and very stupid, individual ( I have no proof of his IQ, just hazarding a guess from his dumb soundbites).

Awful, awful news and my heart goes out to anyone affected in any way.

I've noticed that Facebook have done the same thing they did after the Nepal earthquake and notified everyone who has a friend who's checked in as "safe" in Paris. Such a good idea and it's probably given a lot of people a great deal of peace of mind.

Well the Dutch PM just basically declared war on IS

One of the attackers passed through Greece last month as a migrant according to one of their government ministers.

Attitudes are going to change very quickly.

I hope so.... but WAY, way way too late. Why does something has to happen before people start to realize this.

I read in a newspaper that immigrants that come to the Netherlands and are suspected to be part of IS couldn't be sent back to Syria because it would ''be too dangerous'' for them out there and there's no agreement to send people back there at the time. But they do lose their right for shelter and food here. So basically, instead of locking them up, they are free to roam around the country with no income whatsoever? Absolutely f***ing insane and terrifying.

I suspect the radical right party in The Netherlands is gaining votes quickly and who can blame them. They just feed of the governments stupidity.

It's not even Geert Wilders?

What a truly awful thing to happen :( I am also sending my condolences to all those affected.
It's not even Geert Wilders?

Nope, PM Rutten said in a press conference that we are at war with ISIS and he's only allowed to say that if we filed an official declaration of war or something like that

As no names have been released by the French authorities, that claim is meaningless.

What? I doubt a Greek minister is going to start making things up like this - it's immediate career suicide. They're obviously going to be working with each other behind the scenes and giving each other detail that they won't be releasing publicly!

Whenever something terrible happens in this country, there are always some tremendous acts of humanity and generosity by a lot of British people. They are reported by the press and broadcast media as if those responses are somehow uniquely British.

Next time that happens (and let's hope it's a long wait), remember some of these stories.

Many Parisians offered accommodation to strangers last night after the attacks.

There are long queues of Parisians responding to requests for blood donors.

Parisian taxi drivers were carrying passengers free of charge last night.

On a rather more sour note, while established taxi drivers were working for free, Uber apparently increased their fares by 500%.
