The thing with choir tracks is that nobody streams them. I really think this is a last hurrah for any sort of choir song peaking in the top three, by the time the next one comes out the download market will be dead or thereabouts.

All I see happening to the Xmas number one going forwards is that it becomes like a normal chart week with little outside significance. Nobody will save up releases for Xmas because anyone of significance will release earlier in Q4 to serve as a vehicle for album sales and nobody else will have the power to debut at #1 with an OA/OS release. Campaigns will never build up enough streaming traction to contend either, unless the chosen songs are already charting and up in the top five already or something.

So who is looking at being no.1 now guys?

They're both awful but if people here reaaaallyy have 300-500 quid on it then I'll have to support their choice as I don't want anyone here losing money which is more important tbh :o

Gooddelta makes a really good point though r.e streaming: this could be the end of the all-important Xmas no.1 as, really, who cares if a song is no.1 that week? With an oversaturation of charts, I know people who see iTunes as the official chart, Vodaphone, top40, it kinda loses significance, you know?

No one will release a pre-album single and with singles losing power, no act like Spice Girls or Westlife around, no second single or third will - usually, as I know we have a current exception - will drum up huge sales and any single will also have been released earlier to maximise album sales over the period. Campaigns will lack streaming and with collapsed sales ... I can't see the week being a chart phenomenon for the foreseeable future. We might have completely lost the tradition. Simon and streaming killed it!!

That would mean at 0.4-0.5 they're only drawing level now, plus they've got to make up the fact that they've lost the past 4 days. 3 days to go, but like I say these campaigners will know whats needed to win and will adjust accordingly. If its 0.4 they need from here on in, they'll do it, if its 0.3 they need or 0.1 or whatever it is they'll do what it takes.

It will be interesting to if they keep this up but it looks like they've got the bit between their teeth now.

For some people it is, I don't dispute some people are buying it out of interest/good will, but the fact that Bieber's the poster boy who to beat doesn't help.

I don't really get this argument - surely they've just been aiming to have sales as high as possible all week? It's not like they can just magically make their sales lead larger, they need to find people to be convinced to download it, and they've just been doing that as much as possible since the start of the week. There will be a limit to the number of people who will buy into this and I can't see that limit being high enough to beat Bieber no matter how hard they try. Unless they have some ridiculous trump card still to pull out in the last 48 hours... but why would they wait that long?

Once again, the NHS Choir's sales lead will be at most very slightly more than Bieber's streaming advantage. Bieber has higher streaming figures than sales figures, so a 2 to 1 lead on iTunes for NHS Choir is just breaking even, and they need to outpace him by at least 7,000 in the last 2 days to beat him. It's still very unlikely.

doesn't seem bieber cares much of number one, if he did a few tweets he could still be in the race

He's busy sitting at home in America counting his millions.

I doubt Bieber even knows anything about this :P Pretty sure it's just this country the Christmas #1 has ever been an actual thing.

Like I said before, the NHS choir only has to outpace JB by 3000 for yesterday, today and tomorrow to win and unless his streams have held up, it's very doable IMO.

Think we will see a lot of media support for the NHS today along with encouragement to buy - Heart FM London already doing so.

I've just voted for them over on the poll thread although I still hope that I am wrong. The 'momentum' is with them now and over the next couple of days there will be further doses of high-profile promo and things on social media are likely to become pretty frenzied.

So there is less thank 40 hours of selling time to go now... Nhs appear to be selling just over 2:1 at the moment but with bieber midweek lead and massive streaming I still think they need to outsell him 5:1 in the until the deadline to have a chance.
It's all promotion and a bit hypocrite. The people (for their legitimate fears of tax increases) have voted again for the government responsible for the NHS cuts, and now are backing this campaign to clear their conscience while it's obvious that one week of charity song is irrelevant to the NHS system

5:1? OK. Your'e on something? 3:1 will be more than enough.

To be fair, the NHS campaign hasn't been about stopping the cuts (although I'm sure they all believe in this) but more to highlight a show of support for the NHS and it's staff.

64 - Selena Gomez - Hands To Myself

This is climbing well.

Over on Amazon digital, the NHS choir is no1 and no2 (and no1 in digital albums). Justin Bieber is no5 and no58.

Google Play #2 and #11 for NHS, Bieber at #3 and #24.

#16 Stitches

#17 Sugar

#18 Craig David

if only those were the top 3 instead of NHS/Bieber :)
