Biography

One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) are an English-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Previously, Zayn Malik was a member until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2010. Propelled to international success by social media, One Direction's four albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013) and Four (2014) topped charts in most major markets, and generated hit singles including "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", "Story of My Life" and "Steal My Girl".

 

Their achievements include five Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, eleven MTV Europe Music Awards, and nineteen Teen Choice Awards out of nineteen nominations, among many others. According to Nick Gatfield, the chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, One Direction represented a $50 million business empire by June 2012. They were proclaimed 2012's "Top New Artist" by Billboard. According to the Sunday Times Rich List, by April 2013, they had an estimated personal combined wealth of £25 million ($41.2m) making them the second-wealthiest musicians in the UK under 30 years of age. In 2014, Forbes listed them the second-highest earning celebrities under 30, with the group earning an estimated $75 million from June 2013 to June 2014.

 

After the release of Four, One Direction became the first band in the U.S. Billboard 200 history to have their first four albums debut at number one. Their third album, Midnight Memories, was the biggest-selling album worldwide of 2013 despite being released in late November. Sales wise yes, but in terms of the dates that the chart stands it's the first of 2016, as the chart stands from January 1st until next Friday

Adele only 6k ahead of Elvis? :o Maybe Elvis held on a lot better than expected, rather than it be Adele's sales collapsing so much? Although in saying that Adele's already sold over 2.4 million so it was bound to happen sooner or later.

I am quite an Elvis fan but even I'm surprised how well this album is doing. I haven't bought the whole thing just downloaded a couple of tracks. Really impressive. I finally bought 1989. Its reduced all over so not surprised its Top 10.

Yes! It reminds me of Loleatta Holloway's vocals in Blackbox's Ride On Time. :P

I was just thinking the other day that Sweet Lovin' reminds me of Duke Dumont's Won't Look Back; which also reminded me of Ride On Time. :P

Stitches stands out to me as a really well-crafted pop song, very catchy too. There's nothing else like it in the chart right now. Shawn is very talented also so I'm glad he's been able to break through worldwide at last!

Completely agree with this, well said. I usually hate artists that are that young but Shawn's album is really outstanding!

History giving 1D their highest charting third single to date (and it did so last week in fact) :D One Thing and Kiss You made #9, and Midnight Memories made the dizzying heights of #39 :drama: No third single from FOUR.

Biography

Fleur East (born 29 October 1987), also known mononymously as Fleur, is a British recording artist. She competed on the second series of televised singing competition The X Factor in 2005 as a member of the girl group Addictiv Ladies. In 2012, she launched a solo career with the record label Strictly Rhythm and released songs with dance musicians including DJ Fresh and Drumsound & Bassline Smith.

 

East returned to The X Factor as a solo artist in 2014 for its eleventh series, where she placed runner-up. She became the show's first contestant to reach number one on the UK iTunes Store chart during the competition with her performance of "Uptown Funk" (originally by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars).
