I agree with SevenSize(as I do with a lot of his posts) it is more exciting now as tracks have to earn their top positions instead of smashing in at no1 after 8 weeks of rotation and masses of pre orders. That was the reason the chart started going downhill in the late 90s as people realised it was all a fix and artists would wait until a free week to release to give them a chance at the top. Yes 12 NEs with 6 in the top 10 makes for interest to see where things land but the most popular tracks truely reach the top now.

I mean what did chart geeks do from 1952-95 when songs grew the chart? (And yes I know songs hang around longer now due to streaming)!

1952-95 was better though because there were more than 3 songs entering the top 40 every week, and they wouldn't hang around as long as they do now. The time of 6 new entries in the top 10 wasn't great for a meaningful chart either, though one good thing about it was there was so much music about. It was exciting there being so many great new singles coming out week after week. Now major label rosters are so much smaller.

Really hoping Nick Jonas and Tove Lo can climb today with Totd. Really loving it at the moment.

It will be interesting to see if Birdy or Zara manage to get a good impact from The Voice this week, I'm guessing it should provide Zara with one final week in the top five which is far more than what I could have imagined.

08. Tinie TempaH Feat Zara Larsson - Girls Like [Looks like this will miss the top five in the official charts, it would have been interesting to see had the video been released when it was three on iTunes what impact it could have made]

17. Meghan Trainor - NO

25. Jay Sean Feat Sean Paul - Make My Love Go

27. The Killers - Mr Brightside

33. Years & Years Feat Tove Lo - Desire

41. Fifth Harmony - The Life

56. Nick Jonas Feat Tove Lo - Close

85. Iggy Azeala - Team [Ouch, I'm guessing this will be a buzz single now]

90. Katy B & Chris Lorenzo - I Wanna Be

92. MNEK & Zara Larsson - Never Forget You [This is going to take a huge tumble in the official charts]

175. WSTRN - Come Down

Really getting into this now, shame it's not higher. Confident it'll rise again though! Also, 'Panda' is at #147. Keep an eye on this - starting to blow up in America and giving me slight Trap Queen vibes (obviously won't be as big as that though).

ME 2!

Sorry I meant to say if it HAD been a held-back release. Seems like the type of song that would got big preorders

Ahh I see, in that case you may well be right there. Does seem like the sort of song that would 'normally' be held back until it's nearly past the point of being relevant and then have a big week at #1 and fade quickly (pun semi-intended). Maybe the same for the likes of 99 Souls, although that's not a great example as that was held back for a very long time anyway, just still took a while to get going even after that

Sia is now no 3 when combined and very close to 2. Could it be no 1 next week?
85. Iggy Azeala - Team [Ouch, I'm guessing this will be a buzz single now]

It has plenty of time, we need to learn not to write stuff off so soon in the current era of the chart.

'Mr Brightside' forever taking advantage of that 59p impact  (I assume it's 59p, right?)
:ne: 1384. Billie Marten - Out of the Black

Used in the finale of BBC Three drama 'Thirteen' that went online a couple of hours ago, intrigued to see how high this goes!

Now  to #150!

58. Flo Rida - My House

This will most likely climb into the top 40 by the end of the weekend.
