Well I've listened to the pre its. I dint think they are as bad as people are making out but tbh I am a sucker for a ballad. Having said that I would currently rank them like this -

Salena > Holly > Lucie > Danyl > Olivia > Nate.

I can see a Danyl win though because A: he is male and the British public love a male, B: I would say he is the most memorable from the x-factor bunch here.

We'll do better than Spain and potentially some country that qualifies by accident but that's it. Get your "Brexit and everyone hates us" excuses in now!

The Guardian have already beat us to it, what a horrible article this is even if some of the opinions about the songs have a bit of truth to them.

On balance, it's a better mix than last year. But, by that I mean, we've raised the bar from 3/10 to 5/10.

Okay, I've listened to them all, and there's nothing I'll be listening to beyond... February and definitely not beyond May, but I think our best option is going to be Olivia. It's the only one where I didn't immediately think 'how boring', I only felt that about two minutes into the song. I mean, given the circumstances which I don't want to think about in a Eurovision context but will be present because of course they will we might as well try a Tolmalchevy Sisters strategy.

The rest, just flush. Not going to do a thing. Maybe I Don't Wanna Fight has room to grow but the rest are unsalvageable boring crap.

On first listen I actually like Lucie, Holly, Salena and Olivia a fair bit, Salena probably being my favourite, but I agree none of them are going to do anything and I doubt that they'll make a lasting impression on me either. I think Lucie has the most room to grow, but given it's not that instant it's hardly going to do that well at Eurovision. It could have been worse but as has been said, when MOR pop is the safe choice and so many countries will do it better, we need something better that will stand out. All of these put me in mind of songs you'd scout for BJSC and not mind but not even briefly consider and just go back to now and again on shuffle and think "ooh I remember that, nice song".

I was thinking exactly the same, and wondering whether any of these would even qualify to a BJSC final? I think it's safe to say that the only ones that *might* would be Olivia and Salena, and Olivia would be a bottom ten finish, Salena probably not much higher (though I really like the track).

Are these REALLY the best six songs that the BBC could find to represent our country on the international stage?

I was imagining these being massacred in any other respectable national final, just imagine any of these in Melfest, MGP or Eesti Laul for example? These are the sort of things that MIGHT stand a chance in like... Moldova. I hate to be so dismissive towards them because they aren't bad songs but they just aren't strong enough.

Also, repeated listens make me think Danyl will win too. It does strike me as the most Eurovision song sonically, it's just the quality isn't quite there so it's not like that will pay off for us

I think Olivia would do well with juries but couldn't see any of them getting the televote in May. Yeah, left hand side of the board is out of reach I think for yet another year...
I think because we all loathed Danyl (me included), we're discarding that it's actually pretty decent, I think there's plenty they could do with that breakdown and the drums building at the end.
Good grief is a 4th place finisher in X Factor eight years ago the biggest 'name' they can get here? Did they learn nothing from Andy Abraham? The song titles all look so dull that I'm not even sure I want to bother listening to them all.

Oh please tell me that's actually a thing.

Anyway, I've listened to snippets and as usual I'm not feeling any of the potentials. :/

01. Salena Mastroianni

02. Olivia Garcia

03. Danyl Johnson > UGH. As if he has one of the more interesting and upbeat songs! FFS. I wanted to hate this, but I can't </3 Could be a surprising standout providing the performance is up to scratch! <

04. Holly Brewer

05. Nate Simpson > He sounds like John Legend in parts of the chorus! <

06. Lucie Jones

I actually don't dislike or "hate" any of them. Lucie and Nate are pretty boring, but in a 5/10 bland sort of way. Pretty inoffensive really. Salena I feel will depend 100% on the performance, more so than the others! It's very good. Doesn't touch Molly or Blue for me personally, but I'd be really happy if she was to represent us! Even if we are destined to finish no higher than 21!

~listening through now~.

Salena's track is decent - the lyrics are nice, very suitable for Eurovision and I feel as though it's a track that I could grow to like a lot eventually. Very nice attempt at being current without being too tryhard and pushy!

Nate Simpson sounds like a Tesco value John Legend. Definitely not the right choice for us and I highly doubt he'll do anything for us if he gets picked (unlikely!)

Never Give Up On You sounds straight out of a Disney film and I guess it's decent - definitely not the kind of thing I'd vote for though. Can see it doing decently though.

Holly's track has some decent verses but the chorus' are awful. Really hope she doesn't get picked.

Freedom Hearts is so unbelivably middle of the road, sounds like an awful Louisa Johnson and Emeli Sandé collab that makes track 9 on an album by them. Hopefulyl it doesn't get chose.

Light Up The World is pretty decent, gives me Ten Walls teas which is only a good thing.

Overall it's a pretty average selection of songs, can see either Danyl or Salena getting picked, ideally any of those two also - they're my two favourites and stick out to me as the most accessible.

Not impressed by any of them tbh but I don't blame songwriters for not entering a potential smash - we've basically told Europe to f**k off so can't see their being any warm and fuzzy feelings towards us and our entry regardless.
