Just outside the top 45 but looking to fall lower than that, everything around it is outselling it :drama:

Oh God! It seems he really needs that X Factor performance. :drama:

Well firstly, your comment suggests that you think that Elvis only recorded a handful of songs in his life and that this album must therefore be essentially the same as last years.

Elvis recorded and released about 45 original albums in his career, and hundreds and hundreds of songs.

Last year's and this year's albums are tracks that have been recorded with a philharmonic orchestra, so they have quite a different sound to the original recordings of the songs.

These orchestral albums could literally be released every year until the 2050s without repeating songs.

As to why people are buying them-

Elvis is the most iconic, most popular and most successful solo artist in history... that has a lot to do with it.

CD albums are now Christmas presents more than anything else. About 20% of the UK's population (more than 10 million people) would have been teenagers when Elvis was alive, so for many people it would make an ideal Christmas present.

Add to that there are many millions of people in their 20's, 30's and 40's who also love or at least enjoy the music of Elvis, there's no reason why they wouldn't enjoy this album.

Radio 2 is the most listened to station in the UK by far, and they have heavily promoted and played both this and last year's album.

Finally, it's a simple fact that people like shiny new things, and casual music fans who have a passing interest in Elvis or want to 'discover' Elvis, are much more likely to go out and buy a new CD that is on the front shelves of shops, has radio play and tv adverts, than try to choose from 1000's of online Elvis track options or root through a CD shop for a random Elvis greatest hits from years ago.

Hope that's enough reasons as to why this album might sell a few hundred-thousand copies.

Fantastic post!

So after months and months of dire sales we now have the Top 3 albums selling 100k already. I wish these releases were spread out - appreciate artists and record companies want to go for Q4 but it's frustrating to have albums selling 15k go to #1 and now albums selling 40k+ not coming close.

Looks like gaga is very frontloaded

Even cohen sold more than her yesterday

Looks like she wont pass 25k

didn't realise the Gaga carpool karaoke episode is out and is fantastic, hope it helps stabilise the album

she really shows she can sing, makes you feel a bit sad she's not making songs like Bad Romance or Pokerface anymore but the two newies sound good too, especially the final Million Reasons

Great that Elvis has increased his lead! His popularity never wanes does it.

healthy sales for LM

Also Gaga on for 24k-25k.

She is coming for 30k now with Carpool Karaoke out

Can't see even Elvis and Buble selling 100k this week.

^^ That's a pretty good carpool karaoke (not that there's ever been a bad one). Is Million Reasons confirmed as the next single?

It seems like she's testing the waters with both Million Reasons and A-Yo at the moment. The former is more likely to be a hit though i think.

A-YO is confirmed as the next US single (radio adds Nov 1st). Hopefully they'll release MR in the UK, it's already getting a significant boost from Carpool Karaoke.
