AMAZING song and we all know why it's so high.

What the feck at Band Aid 30 being higher than the original. I thought most forgot of that mess :mellow:

 

I've just looked at kworb archives from last year & Mariah entered the top 100 on the 18th November last year so this is an extremely good start for her this year :o

Genuinely don't like Christmas music... I blame three years working in retail hearing them ten hours a day for turning me mad!!

lol I know how you feel, listening to the same songs all day every day when you work in a shop is bloody annoying :lol:

what I don't like is the recent tradition of Christmas adverts starting super early, some even before Halloween has ended. The Christmas season should only really last for one month, not two.

 

I also refuse to listen to Christmas music until December 1st, I don't get why people want to start listening to Christmas songs already when by December they'll be all over the radio, TV and in shops.

Yeah I kinda hate Christmas music :lol: I always whack out All I Want For Christmas and One More Sleep, albums by artists I like really, so Kelly Clarkson is another one. I just cba the same 10 or so songs played in every shop, on every channel... And it starting in November means I'm sick of it by like mid November, it's worse this year as I'm in my student house and one of my best friends will be the one playing Michael Buble's Christmas album every day all day from now til we leave for Christmas.

The only Christmas "classic" I really love is Mariah, although I definitely don't hate most of the others, I love Christmas so most songs to get me in the spirit are good even if I don't listen out of choice. I would like some more current Christmas classics though, there are plenty of newer Christmas songs but most don't tend to be hits :(

Its a little disappointing that some of the more recent Christmas songs dont perform as strongly as the old classics. Shopping Stores and malls also have a habit of playing the same old songs every year. I do enjoy some of the old Christmas songs and i like seeing them return to the chart but i would greatly welcome Christmas songs from Leona Lewis, Coldplay, Kelly Clarkson, The Darkness and the Killers for example doing as well as the old classics but i dont think it will ever happen. From the artists i mentioned Leona Lewis One More Sleep does seem to do the best but still only shows in the lower end of the Christmas charts.

I wish people were thinking more outside the box and bought different songs, even if they don't have Xmas in the title like Sugababes - New Year, Joni Mitchell - River or Tori Amos - Winter

I don't think that's quite true - it gets featured really heavily in adverts every year.

Possibly it's due to itunes sales being lower than last year.

Does anyone know how the Christmas songs performed on streaming last year, or was their chart positions mainly due to paid for sales?

I'm not 100% sure but I think Mariah and The Pogues went top 10 on streaming?

 

EDIT: Scrap that, just looked at the archive and on Christmas Day, the top 4 on spotify were Christmas songs with Mariah being at number 1!
