October 28, 20177 yr I guess we'll have to wait and see demographics. If there's a high youth audience it might just survive!
October 28, 20177 yr Author Potentially, but I could see the show dipping quite a bit if 2.2m was the result of heavy promo and hype and I don't know if a high young demographic will be able to make up for that drop.

October 29, 20177 yr Wow at Strictly doing double that of X-factor! I knew Strictly was outdoing it by a decent margin but didn't realise it was that big.
October 29, 20177 yr Author That Strictly rating is higher than all but four of the shows from the last series!
October 29, 20177 yr Strictly is up over 1m year on year - it seems to have just got even bigger this year somehow?!
October 29, 20177 yr Author It is quite incredible! Obviously there's next to no competition for it but it's still fantastic to see it still rising when it's been on TV pretty much the same amount of years as The X Factor. I reckon Strictly will be the highest rated programme of the year, on 28-day data figures too. In other news, Sound Like Friday Night only rated 253k (10.3%) among 16-34 year olds, so it's not reaching its target audience and got a bad overall rating.

That's higher than the 9.23m that Planet Earth II opened with last year. Planet Earth II had an average time-shift of 2.28m so that would put this episode of Blue Planet on about 12.6m for the official ratings - going to quite comfortably be the top rated show of the year. Ratings for The Blue Planet 12/09/01: 9.70m / 12.01m 19/09/01: 8.68m / 11.51m 26/09/01: 8.36m / 10.98m 03/10/01: 7.91m / 12.10m 10/10/01: 6.33m / 9.75m 17/10/01: 6.75m / 9.80m 24/10/01: 7.43m / 10.35m 31/10/01: 7.03m / 9.97m The first figure is what it rated on the original Wednesday airing and the second is including the Sunday repeat.
October 30, 20177 yr Amazing for Blue Planet II! Didn’t think it would top Planet Earth II but it’s amazing that it has! omg 4.64m for The X Factor! I don’t think there’s anything they can do to improve it. They’ve created/relied on this image of drama for too long now that it has the permanent image of fix. It’s kind of similar to Big Brother, they’ve relied on this contrived drama for so long, it’s now become impossible to eradicate that image and attract viewers again. The Gogglebox a few weeks ago that looked at the Six Chair Challenge proved that as every single family was just talking about how contrived it is. You don’t get those feelings with Strictly because it’s never relied on them so it can continue to attract more and more viewers with its feel-good feel. I also feel that The X Factor went through too many line-up changes for the judging panel since its peak which has contributed to the lack of interest. I mean they got rid of 3/4 of the panel when it got its highest ever ratings, there’s no logic. The continued success of BGT, Strictly, I’m a Celeb shows the strength in returning talent but it’s too far gone for X Factor now.

The continued success of BGT, Strictly, I’m a Celeb shows the strength in returning talent but it’s too far gone for X Factor now. Agreed. Even though the 2011 series was a ratings success, I'd say that was where the problems started. Simon and Cheryl were gone and I do think that affected things. Just looking at the panel, it just didn't feel like the same show as the peak of 2009/10 just before it. I also feel that this series had a lot of bitchiness and negative vibes going on. As a young teen, I certainly found it entertaining at the time but, in hindsight, I think that really distorted the perception of the show, certainly for the older demographic. Constant changes to the show meant each series felt like a different show and people like familiarity, as BGT, Strictly and IAC have proven. Obviously, shows need to adapt so that they don't feel tired, but it's about striking that balance and The X Factor has chopped and changed too many times.
October 30, 20177 yr The trouble with the X Factor is that the constant changes come across as "watch it this year as we've made it less shit" which kind of emphasises a negative.
