I've had to read further into the lyric video to fully understand the message behind that. The hamster represents Mr Parsons from George Orwell's 1984, about a dystopian future where the government controls what you say, hear, think etc.

Everything about this is so well thought out and has such relevant and important meaning whilst still being an infectious, current and accessible disco influenced bop and I am SHOOK.

I don't get Sia vibes at all, and I don't think anyone else would had if her name wasn't attached

Totally agree, some of the lyric style (the way "stumbling around like a wasted ZOOOoMBIE carries onto a new line has a Sia writing feel) but that's only because I know it's Sia adjacent, if anything I get a kind of Carly 'Emotion' feel and to be fair, I could've imagined Katy doing much of that album anyway so it's hardly a departure.

This just gets better with each listen, slay me with this low-key woke political bop *.*

Exactly  It feels like if she writes anything, it's always compared to her own music regardless of what it sounds like. But as I said she writes loads of styles, she's just a go-to songwriter right now. She didn't invent tropical vibes when she conceived Cheap Thrills

Raping this almost as much as I did with 'Shout Out To My Ex' back in October. :D

It really is a great pop gem, so addictive!

I can hear Sia's influence but I don't think that should be seen as a bad thing or be reason to discredit the song. She can write for pretty much any artist and it'll work but you can still hear her influence (the proof is in This is Acting, where you can picture the singer a song was intended for but can believe in Sia singing it too).

If people didn't realise it was written by Sia, I think it would be easy to guess if you thought about it. I remember thinking 'Perfume' by Britney sounded like a Sia song before realising it actually was.

Yeah, I don't think it's that similar to whats around just now, it's far more disco than tropical house.

Still think it's weak but not derivative.

Well, I certainly didn't expect Katy Perry of all people to make a socio-political commentary infused song. Top marks for innovation. I'm not quite sure it suits her though, might need to get back to me on this.

i rly like this on first listen!! i think its nice to see a big diva artist not make a proper IN UR FACE banger but make a bit of a bop in the process

i can see it growing on listens too!! it reminds me of 70s TOTP2 tracks

if anything this sounds like This Is How We Do but funkier and better

It's most like TIHWD in tempo and beat and vibe, but overall I think it's a very different song for her.

I completely forgot that Sia had anything to do with this, it doesn't sound like her at all. Certainly not compared to 'Diamonds', 'Let Me Love You', etc.
