February 28, 20179 yr You might as well ditch the album chart, and the singles chart will become a Tracks Chart, if artists continue to make the album tracks available to stream. It just seems silly if a particular artist releases a double album and available to stream, for example 24 tracks. Other artists will struggle to release new material.
February 28, 20179 yr So where are the people who predicted Coldplay/Chainsmothers will smash Eddie ^_^
February 28, 20179 yr There are now only 100 sales between Stormzy and Rag'n'Bone Man. Stormzy campaigning on Twitter, similar to what he did with "Shut Up" that helped it go top 10. Thing with Stormzy is, he gets a lot of celeb support. Everyone from Adele to Rio Ferdinand to Niall Horan to Max Branning from Eastenders are tweeting about him lol, not to mention many big media publications. Definitely helps with his streaming numbers. Edited February 28, 20179 yr by MusiqqisuM
February 28, 20179 yr I don't know what share of streams Apple Music usually adds, but it's worth noting that there's been an issue and up until today Saturday, Sunday and Monday's streaming data is missing.
February 28, 20179 yr I don't know what share of streams Apple Music usually adds, but it's worth noting that there's been an issue and up until today Saturday, Sunday and Monday's streaming data is missing. This'll probably benefit Stormzy even if only slightly, his streams on Apple Music have been really strong over the last few days.
February 28, 20179 yr I don't know why people are so surprised that Rag'n'Bone Man is closing the gap. Stormzy was always going to front-loaded, surely?
February 28, 20179 yr I don't know why people are so surprised that Rag'n'Bone Man is closing the gap. Stormzy was always going to front-loaded, surely? I think we all knew that he'd be somewhat frontloaded and decrease his lead over the week but I know myself and a fair few others are surprised at just how small his lead was. Considering a lot of us predicted him to sell >80,000 over the course of the week, the possibility of him missing out on the #1 given that most assumed it was a foregone conclusion is quite surprising! I thought he'd be convincingly #1, especially considering his closest contender was the third week sales of Rag'n'Bone Man.
February 28, 20179 yr The Australian chart used to not include album tracks. It might have changed now but there was a period where it was the case. There was a strange case in 2014 with Katy's 'Dark Horse' in which it wasn't 'officially' released as a single in Australia and couldn't enter their singles chart despite being Top 5 on iTunes for many weeks! They're bothersomely very inconsistent about it since tracks have to be specifically elected by the record companies to chart. Sometimes they leave them out, sometimes they just seemingly don't realise. When big albums come along, it's basically a coin flip as to whether or not stuff will chart and you don't get to find out until the chart is released. "1989", "Purpose" and "Lemonade" all had half a dozen entries at once, while "Starboy" and "Blonde" were curiously absent. And indeed, "Dark Horse" is perhaps one of the top 100 highest selling digital tracks ever and has never officially charted (apart from a cover on The Voice :P). Just last week there were at least 5 songs missing on the chart from various places, so I've always had a preference for the 'reliability' of the UK/US/NZ charts by comparison.
February 28, 20179 yr Rag N Bone Man is surely looking likely for a third week at number 1 ahead of Stormzy with how quick the gap is closing.
February 28, 20179 yr Interesting facts from James Mastersons twitter yday showing the breakdown in sales for the top 2 albums - Stormzy's album leads the race at the moment. 58% of its sales are digital downloads, 23% are CDs and the rest from streaming. Narrowly behind is Rag'n'Bone Man. His sales are 75% physical and 23% downloads. Leaving less than 3% to be account for by streams.
March 1, 20179 yr Stormzy had unexpectedly increased his (narrow) lead at #1 today, certainly an organised effort to get the #1 - reduced to £5.99 in HMV, multiple signings etc.
March 1, 20179 yr unsurprisingly Stormzy seems desperate to get the #1 album! reminds me of when he was giving free creps to help promote 'WickedSkengMan 4' into the top 20
March 1, 20179 yr Stormzy had unexpectedly increased his (narrow) lead at #1 today, certainly an organised effort to get the #1 - reduced to £5.99 in HMV, multiple signings etc. Wow - he is really going for it now. Looking at Stormzy's Twitter feed for today some of it smacks of desperation especially "Make sure you get your hard copy before they run out!". Looks like it is going down to the wire but the last minute surge of streaming may be enough to seal the number 1 spot!
