If Shape of You equals or surpasses Everything I Do I'm staging a protest outside Official Charts Company HQ. That would be the final nail in the coffin of my childhood. It's average at best!

At least Bryan was #1 during a time when the charts were controlled by people who got up off their asses to their local music store if they liked a song

SOY won't be beating that record. Harry has sold so much already this week that it'll be very unlikely for him to miss number one.

(Also I'm pretty sure Ed would still have had a long number one run if physicals were still the only way to consume music legally..)

Things got so bad I was praying Sheeran would top himself. With Galway Girl, obviously. Am starting to think it's only a matter of time re: Adams though.
If Bieber releases a new song this Summer he could definitely challenge for the record. Remember part of the reason One Dance spent so long at the top was because of the summer lull, so I think Bieber could really take advantage of that and stay number one all summer long.
Ooh shite, there's got to be a compromise between reflecting what people are enjoying and bringing some excitement back to the charts. Like watching paint dry over recent years.
Is nobody buying the Harry Styles song anymore?

Well it is still #1 on iTunes...

The fall looks fast but don't forget that the larger the numbers of #2 the smaller % change that actually represents, e.g. 0.2 to 0.3 is a 33% decline, whereas 0.5 to 0.6 is only a 17% decline. This is pretty normal for a hugely hyped new single release, all it suggests is that Harry is unlikely to get two weeks at number 1.

I actually think it's much more difficult what Shape of You has achieved relative to Bryan Adams/Wet Wet Wet, both did very well cos they were soundtrack songs not available on any album... unlike Shape/Divide...

Oh right. I was thinking that it was only still number one because of Friday sales and it being pink constantly on kworb meant that no one was buying it anymore (e.g. today)

Can't work out whether that Harry Styles tune sounds like it's from 1986, 1972 or 1991. Almost expected him to go "ladies and gentlemen, Mr Elton John!" towards the end.
I think that would only extend his run at the top anyway...

It definitely would

'Everything I Do' was on his album 'Waking Up The Neighbours' as well as the Robin Hood soundtrack.

man, the album was released like 3 months after the single, everybody knows if the parent album had been released 2 months earlier he wouldn't have made the record
Is it bad that everyone so confident harry will do it to want someone else to top it

Harry seems to have stabilised a tad on iTunes, only light red at the moment, good to see :D The weekend effect is over now so hopefully he'll benefit from that.
