We got to 56 democratically. Not my fault if a party enjoying high 40's level of support can take advantage of the inadequacies of the shite FPTP voting system.

Well, there was May's promise to do all in her power to prevent tourism. Then there was the time she forgot where she was and just said how pleased she was to be in "this town". There was also Boris Johnson's promise to back the Americans' Korean policy before he was slapped down by May. That's just three examples which would have dominated the news for ages if it had been a Labour gaffe.

At least now, we've got May's very own Bacon Sandwich moment *.*

Why oh why are Labour letting Dianne Abbott do TV and radio interviews? She did a car crash one this morning with Nick Ferrari on LBC and was asked how many new police officers they'd hire. OMG I read about it on DS then heard a bit of it when they replayed a clip on Daily Politics. She said they'd cost 200k at first and was in a right fluster. You could hear her rustling papers as she stumbled over words out, eventually saying £80 million! Luckily for her Andrew Neil doesn't do DP on Tuesdays but thought Dianne was going to explode at Jo Coburn. She was angry, claimed that was her 7th interview of the day so no wonder she was having problems and she got it right in all the other six beforehand!

I can see them losing a few extra seats every time Dianne gets her figures muddled up. Can you imagine her as Home Secretary? *SHUDDERS*

 I couldn't stop laughing. There's a video of it here - http://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/nick...er-policy-cost/

I hope the Lib Dems, Greens or even Conservatives can manage to take Diane's seat. Very unlikely she'll lose it given the large majority she's had for the last 30 years, but you never know!

That depends on your definition of "democratically". Many of us will struggle to describe a system that allows a part to win almost all the seats with 50% of the vote as democratic.

I agree tbh. even as an SNP supporter it's obvious the current system is too favorable to us but in fairness we want rid of FPTP as well and the tories and labour enthusiastically back it! A holyrood-like system would be best for westminster probably.

How much space did the Tory press devote to May's claim that the reasons so many nurses were using food banks were complex? There is nothing complex about it at all. They are using food banks BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY. The reason they don't have enough money is because they are not paid enough by their employer -Theresa May's government.

I don't believe any nurses are using foodbanks. If they are then they're not managing their money properly. I live on benefits, which are much lower than a nurse's salary and I can manage. You have to budget and cut down on booze, posh I-phones and entertainment.

Well, yes. I'm no fan of FPTP but it's the system through which we currently get what passes for democracy in this country.

But you still believe that the EU regulates the shape of bananas and the number allowed in a bunch. Meanwhile, here on planet Earth, ...

So you want the UK to pay £60 billion into the EU because that is the Brexit fee demand coming from the EU atm, but in the same breath pro-EU people complain about the £350 million a week not being paid into the NHS as promised in the referendum campaign. You can't have it both ways.

Pardon me, the mafia EU are now demanding 100 BILLION for the Brexit fee. I see they're now doing a Diane Abbott and plucking numbers out of thin air. I must say the EU negotiation skills so far are truly inspiring, how will Theresa May cope

FPTP is flawed yes and needs changing, but the UK still ranks quite highly on the democracy index. i think calling the FPTP system undemocratic is a bit too far, looking at nationwide figures does show possibly an undemocratic system but population density, short money, etc doesn't come under that!

I'm still yet to see a very strong argument for an alternative for specifically the UK, I think the public mood COULD be there for an alternative but it just has to be the perfect one. I don't think the AV referendum truly shows a nation not fussed about voting reform, it was just totally the wrong way to go about it. I'd personally like Britain to move even more towards a federal state and model it's system based on Germany, although even then I think the difference in geographics could cause an issue! :P

In two minds about whether Corbyn should do it if May doesn't. On the one hand it's a chance to put himself out there, on the other his big advantage is that he's a better debater than her and if she's not there he risks being sucked into the minor party scrap.

I think he should just do it, as you say he's a better debater than May and the media will screw him over either way. In fairness I don't think Labour's campaign on the whole has been THAT bad so far, apart from a few minor things like Abbot-gate. In Scotland it's been a different story :')

I wonder if ITV will give Theresa May the "Have I Got News For You" tub of lard/handbag treatment by putting a pair of leopard-print heels where she would have been standing? Or a jar of jam for where Jeremy Corbyn would have been?

The EU have made no such claim. The French (who are NOT the EU, and have an election going on, electioneering as much as May is) and the Polish (who have a vested interest in the UK being seen to look after so many of it's citizens properly) have made an "estimate". It's just haggling over the price, bartering, the principle is you pay your debts. The actual price paid is up for discussion.

May has just seen an opportunity to tuen the EU into the bad guys. What happened to all of the "EU will roll over and do what we want" assurances? Lies? Heaven forbid....

May has also claimed that the nasty foreign press has published misleading stories about the EU. No doubt she thinks the likes of the Mail and Express's coverage of the EU is always scrupulously fair and balanced.

Note that she also made a party political statement outside number 10. Traditionally, that should always be used for speaking as Prime Minister, not as the leader of a political party.

Yes I noticed that, making what was essentially a small-minded whinge about a leak from one individual into a monster anti-EU muckraking Power Of A Woman power-grab. Over-reaction much...

So much in fact I tweeted to her on her twitter-whinge. I'm sure my reasoned comment will bring her to her senses.... :P Not that I've ever seen any evidence of sense.

That's Alan Johnson's old constituency. What platform is she running on?

I'm sure that many of you will be absolutely DELIGHTED to know that Ester McVey is going to be fighting in Tatton in the General Election. I know how devastated you all were when she lost her seat in 2015, and given that she's standing in George Osborne's old safe seat, we'll almost definitely be graced by her presence in the House come mid-June.
