April 25, 20179 yr Keep reading the same nonsense in regards to Harry Styles' new single being a fluke #1. Just because it only spent 1 week at #1 doesn't make it any less credible than Shape of You for example. At the end of the day it outsold every song in the world to get that #1 spot so how was it a fluke?
April 25, 20179 yr So how long will Symphony stay at no 1? I heard opinions if they dont climb to top position this week it never happens Any big event next week?
April 25, 20179 yr So how long will Symphony stay at no 1? I heard opinions if they dont climb to top position this week it never happens Any big event next week? I think it'll get 2 or 3 weeks at #1. There's new Katy Perry and Kygo but I doubt they'll be #1 next week.
April 25, 20179 yr So are we all writing off Shawn Mendes now? A few days ago everyone thought it was a dead cert.
April 25, 20179 yr So are we all writing off Shawn Mendes now? A few days ago everyone thought it was a dead cert. It's picking up steam on Spotify and holding up well on iTunes I thing when airplay kicks in it'll make its bid for the top
April 25, 20179 yr A few years ago, lots of people complained that all we had was flash in the pan number ones each week with hardly any longevity. Now we have longevity and people complain nayway. People will always find things to complain about with the charts. There's longevity and then there's spending upwards of a quarter of the year at number one. I don't want a new number one every week nor do I want 8+ weeks at the top to become the norm. There is a happy medium. Even if you're a fan of 'Shape Of You' and not so keen on 'Symphony', surely you can sympathise with people who think 14 weeks is long enough and it's about time we had something else at number one? 'Symphony' should spend a few weeks at number one too, before perhaps Shawn Mendes or someone overtakes. It's already spent a while in the top five too so it's not by any definition a 'flash in the pan' number one if it gets there.

THIS You just have to balance things out, and having 2 tracks staying at #1 with 13 weeks plus Ed and Drake in the last 12 months. I can count the rest of the #1s on one hand, 21 Apr 2016 Drake, Major Lazer, Chainsmokers, James Arthur, Little Mix, Clean Bandit -> Ed Sheeran (April 2017) :drama: someone please tell me what is wrong with the picture :P
April 25, 20179 yr I feel like the turnover will speed up from now. The only artists who can genuinely sustain a massive amount of time at #1 in this age of such low sales (I think 45-65k will become the norm for a #1) are Adele, Bieber and Ed Sheeran. Without them, we'll probably have a theme of big songs spending 1-5 weeks at #1.

April 25, 20179 yr All the hype and it sold almost half of zayn and since its hardly setting the world on fire sales wise if released a month earlier it would be lost further down the chart with those sales Managing #1 at all is impressive in this day and age though, no? I don't think you can really say "if it was released earlier", you could say that for loads of songs and their chart position may have ended up different but that's not how things work. It's managing decent longevity anyway and he still has the video release to come.

April 25, 20179 yr It's no doubt that Harry done well to enter at the top that week even with lowish sales - at the end of the day a long spell in the top 40 will determine its success overall and I expect that will happen with blanket radio support so far!
April 26, 20179 yr I really want Steps to hold the number 1 as its a great album for any fans of pure pop music. Steps have delivered a wonderful album and its brilliant to see them selling so well. Edited April 26, 20179 yr by pippa

April 26, 20179 yr Galway Girl still has a proper vid to drop and Ed is playing Glastonbury. Could it get to No1 in June?
April 26, 20179 yr I think Ed will try and push it to number one just so he can claim two #1s from the album. Though I'm not sure if it'll actually make it seeing as it's been out for ages and has already peaked in sales.
April 26, 20179 yr I know Ed having all his new tracks chart at the same time was really annoying but in the long run, I'm quite relieved. It means this 'era' probably won't go on as long as the last one did where it was almost two years between 'Sing' debuting and 'Photograph' finally leaving. With the exception of 'Galway Girl' I can't really see any of the album tracks getting too far back up if they get proper releases.
April 26, 20179 yr Steps were 1k ahead in the albums yesterday so expecting Ed to take the lead today :nocheer:
April 26, 20179 yr Always going to be eight weeks for Ed (initial run at the top of Albums). Hoping and think Gorillaz will topple him next week!
