I'd say that's the perfect bottom 4! I like them all though.

I voted in this, right?

Unfortunately you didn't! :(

19. I'll Stand By You // 6.09

Girls Aloud's debut single 'Sound of the Underground' was a massive #1 hit, but their next 5 releases all missed out on the top spot - four of them frustratingly peaked at #2! The release of 'I'll Stand By You' (a cover of the Pretenders' 1994 hit) finally gave them their long-awaited second #1, where it stayed for 2 weeks. In doing so it kept Destiny's Child's 'Lose My Breath' at #2. 'I'll Stand By You' was released in aid of BBC Children In Need, but was rather curiously snubbed by BBC Radio 1. Nevertheless it reached #9 in the radio airplay charts - Girls Aloud's second airplay Top 10.

Four cover versions out in a row! :o ISBY is my second favourite cover by them, and for me it was always a lovely moment in their tour set-lists.

Yeah, I do always enjoy 'I'll Stand By You' and the TEN tour made me appreciate it even more so.

Still deserves to be around this position though.

I'll Stand By You is a cute cover, I don't mind it at all. I don't like it enough to not still wish they had not released any covers as singles.

Long Hot Summer or Life Got Cold next please!

18. Whole Lotta History // 6.41

Time for the first INJUSTICE of the rate (and trust me, there's more to come). Whole Lotta History was released as the fourth single from Chemistry, with a slightly remixed version by Ash Howes. It peaked at #6 in the UK, the second highest of all Chemistry singles but unfortunately spent only four weeks top 40 and had only sold 52k by 2009. A definite shame as for me it's their best ballad quite comfortably! Additionally it was only their second original ballad to be released as a single, after Life Got Cold. Only one or two more followed, depending on how you'd classify Call the Shots!

How on EARTH is Life Got Cold higher than WLH?!

It's a good song which I loved on the tours especially, but no one was here for 2 ballads in a row from an act like Girls Aloud. I think had it been the sole ballad single from 'Chemistry' it might've faired a lot better chart wise.

Basically:

01. Long Hot Summer (I assume that's all that was ready to go at the time but I do think it's a fun underrated bop)

02. Biology (Duh)

-Album-

03. Whole Lotta History

04. Models (Tour single)

Yeah I'd much rather they skipped over See the Day and just released WLH, there's no reason why they couldn't have pushed it as the Christmas single IMO.
Justice for Whole Lotta History! I've found it to be underappreciated on BuzzJack before now actually. No way is it their worst "Xenomania original" single, at least it isn't for me!

'Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me' rightfully last *.* a shame that 'See The Day' is so low though, that is forever underrated!

I agree with Joe that it's baffling to see 'Life Got Cold' higher than some of these songs that have recently dropped out. It has always been a poor 'Wonderwall' rehash :(

How is 'See The Day' not last and ABOVE(!!!!) 'I Think We're Alone Now'?

'Whole Lotta History' is my fave GA ballad. I really love it  I also actually like 'Beautiful Cause You Love Me'.. 'I'll Stand By You' is also a nice version!

Always quite liked 'See the Day' and 'I Think We're Alone Now' even if they don't add anything that the originals don't already deliver. 'I'll Stand By You' is a great Girls Aloud ballad; obviously Chrissie Hynde makes the original so incredibly special but I still feel the emotion when the girls sing it.

Absolutely shocked that 'Whole Lotta History' is out! :o I thought this was a fan favourite?! Definitely agree with everyone else who's saying this should have taken the place of 'See the Day' and be single #3 released in the run up to Christmas. A really emotional 4 minutes; all the girls do such a great job - particularly loving Nicola and Sarah's solo bits as they don't always get the chance to shine. I'm actually really shocked it's out already.

That Walk This Way cover was a dark day for pop.

I genuinely don't think I've ever heard Whole Lotta History before. Not what I was expecting from the title! what a gem

17. Long Hot Summer // 6.61

Next up is the forgotten summer bop! Released between the gap of their first headline tour ending and the third album, 'Long Hot Summer' was originally intended to appear on the soundtrack on a Herbie film released around that time (hence the motor-themed video) but was cancelled last minute. It was also to be the girls' lowest charting single to date at the time, only managing #7. Whilst Brian Higgins, producer at Xenomania is not a fan ["chasing the soundtrack disrupted us creatively. It was making us miserable. Something had to come out and that was Long Hot Summer. It was made in a panic. It was a disaster record. I can't stand it."], I have to disagree because it's a fantastic song, and quintessentially Girls Aloud. It just was perhaps a mistake as a lead single with hindsight.

I will never understand why 'Long Hot Summer' was the lead over 'Biology'.

(It has grown on me over the years but it's still one of their worst singles)
