This week sees the return of Lana Del Rey, who's previous album Honeymoon was beaten to #1 by David Gilmour. She was looking likely to return to the #1 spot and overthrow Ed Sheeran, however, the recent tragic death of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington could mean she has some unexpected competition. There are also releases from Declan McKenna and Tyler, the Creator.

 

On the singles chart, it looks as though new #1 Dj Khaled will remain at #1 while Louis Tomlinson heads for a top 10 debut.

Lana is a long way behind Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, which is surprising. Probably selling less than eg Haim managed (without checking).

The 3 track rule is going to reduce the potential impact the linkin park tracks will have. It is a shame as Heavy and One More Light would have probably re-peaked and charted. Shame it has taken Chester's suicide for people to listen to the album without focusing on the change of direction in sound.

The new Lana Del Rey album is brilliant but then I'll expect I'll like the Paul Heaton album as well. Dizzie Rascal should also crack the album top ten

Regarding the Linkin Park 3 track rule, I think 4 tracks will chart at least, as the JAY Z collaboration will count + 3 other Linkin Park tracks, if I've read the rules correctly.

Indeed - a good song is a good song, no matter what the genre is. After so many albums is it any wonder they wanted to experiment with a change of sound? They were hardly reproducing the greatness of the 00s with their last couple of albums. The new album is decent.

but Numb/Encore is a co-credited song, so should count as one of the 3 LP tracks, it's not a Jay Z ft Linkin Park track

I'm not sure how the OCC would go about a joint lead track actually, but seeing as it's credited to JAY-Z & Linkin Park, rather than Linkin Park & JAY-Z, I think it would count as a JAY-Z chart entry. Would make more sense to let three LP tracks chart alongside 'Numb/Encore', otherwise it's a tad unfair that two of the three eligible tracks would be two versions of the same song.

this is the rule:

i) A maximum of three singles within the Top 100 by the same artist will be chart eligible. These will be the three most popular singles in a week based on combined sales and streams. (Also see 5.0 Exclusions)

ii) In the case of singles featuring a secondary artist(s), they will only count towards the primary named artist’s maximum of three chart eligible singles.

iii) In the case of singles that are equal collaborations between two or more artists, a single will count towards the maximum of three chart eligible singles of the artist on the releasing label.

iv) Where all collaborating artists appear on the same label releasing a single, the releasing label must nominate the primary artist.

well in that case 'Numb/Encore' should definitely count towards JAY-Z's count, as it was released on his own label Roc-A-Fella.

Paul is 5.3k ahead of Lana.

This margin is a little bit of a "surprise" though given Lana's previous Studio Album ('Honeymoon') opened in September 2015 at #2 with sales of 28,391 and Paul Heaton + Jacqui Abbott's previous ('Wisdom, Laughter and Lines') opened in the same year at #4 with sales of 13,152.

Can't see either getting to 20k this week which might open door for Ed again.

The low sales week will help The Vamps with their decline but still curious to see whether they can hold on to Top 20.

Personally I would rather Numb/Encore was excluded, hate that version so much & it's literally impossible to avoid hearing it on a night out.

 

Hope they play the original Numb though, by miles my favourite song of theirs.
