Exactly!

She's not dumb, I'd prefer if she didn't invite such scrutiny by writing about stuff like this but it's gonna get people talking and set up the new era well to have such a divisive song and themes that can be discussed like this. As has been said, anything she releases is gonna be highly scrutinised and analysed, so why not capitalise on it to launch the lead in the best way? It feels if she did release an actual banger the usual quarters would say she's pandering to get a hit or something.

There have been people on my social media non stop going on and on and on about how awful a song this is, how awful she is, and honestly if a popstar's lyrics affect your life that much that you have to harp on, go outside. On here I haven't really see any problems, people are explaining properly how they feel about the song or her and I can't begrudge that even if I don't agree, I think it's more just stan Twitter but tbh they can barely handle a live performance or music video without being immature idiots, let alone a huge lead like this with themes like this, so moot point really  I need a clarout of my Twitter because some of the stans are absolutely awful, not just to Taylor but anyone other than their designated fave or anyone who might chart higher in a given week than their fave act's latest single.

Exactly, and people can make their own conclusions on the song without people on this forum linking to 1000 bad reviews to try and make us think differently or whatever  Tbh I'm not saying this represents everyone who dislikes the song, I can understand why the sound of the song is very polarizing and divisive but most of the people saying these things about the lyrics etc are people that have a pre existing dislike of Taylor.

I'm not doing it for no reason. And I don't agree with everything they say. But it's one of the biggest releases of the year and these kind of criticisms are very prominent in the media right now, it's coming part and parcel with the song whether you're a fan or not and some of it does make sense and I can see why people are annoyed. People saying she supports white supremacy and released the song on Kanye's mum's death etc etc are doing way too much, but some of the think pieces are an interesting read at the very least.

This article is basically why I'm uneasy about the song's theme & Taylor in general. It's a really interesting read whether you agree or not: https://www.buzzfeed.com/elliewoodward/how-...qPNW#.reGQ1GVqa

There's definitely a big contrast to 'not asked to be part of this narrative' and helping your career through publicity of your ex-relationships. The stuff around Harry Styles is particularly grating for me.

Tbh, I genuinely thought more people would be all over this. But from what I can tell, it seems to be mainly just her stans (with the odd one or two exceptions).

It's baffling to me because like I said before, it sounds like such a Lorde song and she gets praised to high heavens for something sonically similar (which is why I think I'm not fully on board). But to see people are actually outright hating and slating it surprises me. I guess this message is over done by her and it does paint her in a negative light, but sometimes people need to be able to separate the artist from the song. But I guess it's harder to do that when she gets personal. But I find it ridiculous that people can forgive Chris Brown and Justin Bieber and listen to them after all the shit they've done, but can't do the same for Taylor tbh.

There some valid criticisms of Taylor but it often seems like she just can't catch a break  It's like she always has to do MORE if you know what I mean, I remember when she gave money to Kesha the likes of Demon practically had a fit and when she just tweeted about the women's march she was slated then as well :/

:drama:

HDD are predicting this to open with similar numbers to SIO in the US :o

IMO the only part that really sounds like Lorde is the pre-chorus (and that is not coincidentally by far the best part of the song).

I've given this a few plays but I have to say that I think it is a pretty poor effort from Taylor. The chorus is a total non event and the lyrical theme is just a bit unpleasant and feels quite tacky to listen to. I really enjoyed the 1989 era but this is a big step down in quality for me. Even the old taylor bit that everyone seems to like is just a bit cringe for me.

The only plus is that it has a pretty unconventional structure at times.

This is smashing so badly jonny.png

Highest 1 day spin total in pop radio: - TAYLOR SWIFT Look What You Made Me Do 2858 0 2858 21.463 - August 26, 2017

It also may debut on this weeks Hot 100 due to airplay

American Sales:

After only one day on sale, Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" is off to a sizzling start -- and will likely sell a half-million downloads in its first week, according to industry forecasters.

On Friday (Aug. 25), the day of the track's commercial release, the song sold a little less than 200,000 downloads in the U.S., according to initial sales reports to Nielsen Music.

"#LookWhatYouMadeMeDo has sold more downloads in a single day than any song has sold in a week, in the past six months."

The highest first week sales of 2017 so far is Ed with Shape Of You which only sold 240k compared to this!!!

HDD:

Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” (Big Machine) had an explosive first day in the marketplace, earning huge streams and setting the stage for a first week in the range of 550-550k in sales alone, an impressive feat in the streaming era. Could the track surpass this projection?

Tay-Tay’s biggest first week with a single was in 2012, when “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” scored 623k downloads. The lead single from 1989, “Shake It Off,” bowed with 544k.

I mean it came on tonight and I bopped.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm just going to have to put my issues with the sentiment aside and enjoy the tune.

Btw

LWYMMD was followed by Friends followed by Into You followed by bon appeit. What a run.

Omg I'd collapse if I heard this out!!!!

I remember Shake It Off coming on on my first night out just after I turned 18 and I was a mess  Tbh all of those songs would make me life, never heard any o those out damn straight white ppl clubs x

It came on last night in a club at Manchester Pride and it was booed. First time I'd heard it at all, sounded good in a club. I've come home and listened to the studio version and it's significantly poorer so maybe it was a remix. She's so unlikable, I can't.

Alcohol maybe helped?
