It feels like a LONG time since we've supported Quintessa in such a way two contests in a row (maybe since late 2015 with the back-to-back slayage of Avec Sans/Mirror Talk?), but yeah, they've done it again. 'Gypsy' last month was infectious but this one appealed to us, even more, in an entirely different way. It is an absolutely stunning foreign language track that makes me melt with its chilled vibes. The "oooooooh, ahhhhhhh" part of the chorus in particular is beautiful ♥♥♥ this was a very smart choice of an AQ as it may have got overlooked otherwise. 15 Buzzjack Mountain ♥ CENTVRIES - Tension Oh look, here we have a country that have appeared in our final votes for the very first time! They were going to have to do so at some point tbh, seeing as they are our neighbours and all. Buzzjack Mountain debut in the Jadakissnian votes in style at that with a silver medal. This song was described as "like something Jadakissnia would send" due to its darker vibes. This hit the nail on the head really as I would have sent it in a heartbeat if I'd found it myself, total entry envy *.* I actually 'only' gave this 8 points in the semi but I have fallen more and more in love with it on subsequent listens to the point where it's now my second favourite song in the entire contest. Both the vocals and production of this are absolutely lush with their moody undertones, as the lyrics being sang document such frustration. "My dreams became a maze once more" is a lyric I expect to resonate with on my path to being a journalist tbh. I really like the accent of vocalist and the way the production builds throughout. 'Tension' has such a replayability factor as I've spammed it on a few occasions this week. More of this kind of thing please! 18 Kluminican Republic ♥ RUFUS - Innerbloom Kluminican Republic get the gold from us for the first time after narrowly missing out in BJSC 96 with Burial's 'Archangel'! Vaguekissnia VERY MUCH approve of this one. Like Quintessa, this is another song from this edition that makes me melt from start to finish. I have absolutely no qualms about the long length as I believe this fills up the duration to perfection. The production and vocals are so easy on the ears and build incredibly well, this song doesn't even peak until towards the end when the production ramps up a gear. Also the colourful visuals compliment this song remarkably well. I am a little obsessed with aesthetically pleasing vinyl and that's exactly what the pretty and swirly video reminds me of. Thank gawd it was accompanied by those and not someone eating nutella for over 9 (!) minutes. I hope this can be a top 10 smash tonight with many a top set of points... but now we've given you an 18, I'm afraid you'll probably come 11th due to the Jadakissnia 18 curse as of late. Merethe Soltvedt) 07 Trifoski // Guerilla Toss - Skull Pop 08 Jadakissnia // Moth Equals - Jiv 09 Aelandor // C2C - Down The Road 10 Quintessa // Ashmute - Heaven - Avalonia get points from us for only the second time (both for their Merethe Soltvedt entries) and their most to date, claiming six points with a stunning electronic tinged epic. Trifoski pick up seven points (a number we're sure they'll be pleased with x) with a bit of quirky indie with a rather amaze video ~ Jadakissnia continue once again to always get points from us when they qualify (thanks to being vetoed with their inferior original entry xx), grabbing another eight points with a vibetastic Bollywood flavoured tune, while Aelandor bring the ~funk~ with an artist that was also a former Jadakissnia potential, they just beat out Jadakissnia to claim our nine points. Then ten points go to the host nation of Quintessa with a great choice of auto-qualifier, a gorgeous bit of Korean pop that we can just melt to (a bit of a theme among some of our top few x) 11 Land of DW // N.O.H.A. - Di Nero - One Spanish jam just missed out on our points but the other, this one from Land of DW, ends up in our top 5, taking home eleven points. Moment of silence for another Spanishy jam, South Danaelanda's, that couldn't be here with us tonight. Anyways, this track has proven to be possibly the catchiest in the whole contest, on repeat in the heads of citizens all across Persephonia, we're hoping this can be another hit for Land of DW (we were right about it qualifying against the odds after all xx) 12 Kluminican Republic // RÜFÜS - Innerbloom - Pretty much nothing separating 2nd to 4th place for us this time, the unlucky country just missing out on a place in our top 3 is Kluminican Republic but still a healthy twelve points for this beautiful journey of a track, we fully endorse #longsongbloc as ever and hope to see this blooming inside at least the top 10 tonight. We make that two of Kluminican Republic's best ever entries - if not the best two - within the last 3 contests :o 13 Fljótavík // Wealstarr - Feria Festival - Fljótavík's much hyped comeback (a hype train started by us might I add xx so do blame us if it ends up underperforming) squeaks into our medal positions, receiving thirteen points, very much the complete opposite vibe to 'Innerbloom' which made it tough for us to decide which way around they finished in our votes. Quite a bonkers and all over the place (in the best way) track, jumping from pitched PC Music esque vocals to trappy produx and even the appearance of a good old generic 90s rave sound, this one is sure to be a club classic in Persephonia for years to come. *.* 15 Cumulonimbia // Kevin Abstract - Miserable America - I checked our voting history and was shocked to find this is the first time Cumulonimbia have had a medal position for us, in fact they've never previously come higher than 5th for us in a final (they've done that a full 5 times, as well as coming 6th a further two times) - so it's a much belated first for one of our most consistent favourite nations in the contest, who pick up fifteen points this time with the wonderful Kevin Abstract who we will forever claim as a national treasure, especially if he actually hurries up with breaking through to the mainstream xx Another great offering from him with some Childish Gambino and Kanye West vibes to it and some very thought provoking lyricism as ever ~ 18 Espen // Mounika. - Long Silent - And our full eighteen points go to Espen, who thus become the only country so far to get two 18s from us this year following ATB in BJSC 95. This was definitely a surprise qualifier but in the best possible way, it's another one of those songs that is just so slick and chill that we could just melt while listening to it :wub: this kind of chilled lo-fi hip-hop sound is picking up popularity in the underground in Persephonia and this is one of the best examples of it we have been exposed to to date. It was originally only going to get our 10 in the semi-final but snatched our 12 just ahead of Fljótavík at the last second, and has since grown even more to make quite a comfortable decision to give it our 18 in the final.
