January 6, 20187 yr This is brilliant, love how unconventional sounding it is! Completely agree with the Jamiroquai comparison someone made earlier in the thread.
January 6, 20187 yr I get the impression there's going to be 4 singles from the album and each music video is going to form an overall story - that was just my interpretation. So the era is basically over after Super Bowl... Or maybe the fifth song will become hit later in the spring. When I play Filthy (tried 4 times now) I forget it's on after 2.5 minutes
January 6, 20187 yr I really feel like I would LOVE this song if it didn't have that in your face tuneless production. You can hardly even hear JT over it!
January 6, 20187 yr How true is the instruction... "this song should be played very loud" - sounds better and better the louder you play it!

When I play Filthy (tried 4 times now) I forget it's on after 2.5 minutes No, sorry, I meant over the course of the next year or however long he is planning on promoting this album. I feel like he knows which singles he is releasing and potentially has shot most of the videos? It's just a suggestion.
January 6, 20187 yr Ok I've listened to it a few more times now and I have to give him credit for doing something so insanely different and bold, he could so easily have just hopped onto one of big trends of rn and had a guaranteed huge smash but he's actually made something special and although it's not really working for me yet, it has me intrigued at to what else he has to offer
January 6, 20187 yr A few listens in and yep this is proper amazing. Not surprised it has such a marmite reaction though.
January 6, 20187 yr i don’t think it’s particularly all that different to his past stuff? heading down a well trodden path if anything it’s bruno mars doing sexy/back
January 6, 20187 yr I really feel like I would LOVE this song if it didn't have that in your face tuneless production. You can hardly even hear JT over it! That's the one thing I keep getting from this, it feels like the vocals are really low in the mix. I'm sure it must be deliberate though.

FS/LS still sounds so fresh and ahead of it's time though, which is why I think this one has clicked with me! I actually take back the whole "being no obvious hook" when it's actually all a big hook (like 'All Fired Up', 'SexyBack' etc..)
January 6, 20187 yr I love bits of this but I wish there was just slightly more variance in the production in the first half as I get ever so slightly bored of it before it changes. Like a couple of others, I don't get the surprise from lots of you as (if he hadn't harped on about country influences) this is pretty much exactly what I'd have expected his comeback to be like. January 6, 20187 yr Tbh I think it's not so much that it's different for him, it's just so different to every other mainstream artist at the moment. (and like... his last single was 'CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!' which is about as standard mainstream pop as you can get)
January 7, 20187 yr it's a worse version of george michael's freeek '04 to be honest, right down to the video!
January 9, 20187 yr I have to conclude it's a ''no'' from me. It sounds like nothing else in the charts right now, but still it sounds like we heard it all before because it's basically 'SexyBack' 2.0. It offers nothing exciting. I'm more disappointed in Timbaland than Timberlake. It would've been nice if he had updated his sound a bit.
