February 27, 20188 yr Exactly and also might cherry pick which songs they want to listen to off a certain playlist. There's lots of factors. 90% of the songs on Hot Hits UK are in the top 200 though. Incidentally if we DIDN'T have playlists like this, what's the betting that the chart would be far more stagnant than it actually currently is? I wouldn't be shocked to see "Havana" still top 10 and "New Rules" top 20 for instance.
February 27, 20188 yr Author Kylie wasn't ever on Hot Hits. She was only on New Music Friday. She was on the New Music Friday playlist for a whole week, but the playlist only gets promoted on a Friday. No-one ever said it was a coincidence that her biggest streaming day was the day of its release and NMF promo.
February 27, 20188 yr I wonder what the Spotify charts would look like if there were no advertised playlists at all and people had to search out all the music.
February 27, 20188 yr Author Apologies if I've missed it (I've tried to read through the four pages of streaming discussion), but why are Bowie's albums back? Re-issued on vinyl https://pitchfork.com/news/david-bowies-low...vinyl-reissues/
February 27, 20188 yr Author I wonder what the Spotify charts would look like if there were no advertised playlists at all and people had to search out all the music. Very static and with older songs like Havana sticking around for much longer. I think Hot Hits UK has helped speed the chart up.
February 27, 20188 yr Being quite fair about this though, if Kylie is not on Hot Hits or any similar playlists it's because her record label aren't buying her a spot on those. That's pretty much how this works.
February 27, 20188 yr The effect of streaming on charts has been obvious for a long time now and has showed no signs of slowing down, so it is quite ridiculous that some labels aren’t promoting artists such as Kylie who will need extra help with the streaming audience (teenagers/young adults)
February 27, 20188 yr Honestly I really don't think Kylie cares how the single does. It's just there to promote the album. Her being a little bit higher on Spotify would matter to chart obsessives and literally zero other people.
February 27, 20188 yr Kylie and her team know a huge hit wont happen, but they could do a little more to attract sales to even secure a top 40 hit. That said, i would believe Kylie;s promotion is more aimed for trying to achieve a Gold selling album or higher.
February 27, 20188 yr This thread's Kylie talk is exhausting. I'm a fan of hers but can it please be taken elsewhere?
February 27, 20188 yr This thread's Kylie talk is exhausting. I'm a fan of hers but can it please be taken elsewhere? You don't have to read it! :P
February 27, 20188 yr Kylie is in the chart top 100 this week and so we are allowed to discuss her in Friday's Predictions and how she will get there...... its 2018 and I may not get many chances in the future :cheer:
February 27, 20188 yr You don't have to read it! :P It does bog down any chance of decent conversation as there usually is this thread weekly. Yes Kylie is very relevant to this week but having the roundabout conversation of streaming vs. sales and the repetition and criticism of OCC's various rules is not anything worth reading. Bal's question the previous page being a good example of this! (sorry I'm not sure why Bowie's albums are back :P)
February 27, 20188 yr it should be 1:1000 for all. Streaming should not dominate v a 99p download of a £3.99/£4.99 vinyl. Streamers need to be active in their approach not passive. Making your own playlists and adding deleting songs as you wish would make more sense Amen amen amen! I do exactly that, curate my own playlists based on my tastes. Most people are too passive to do this and are happy to be spoon fed by Spotify and Capital FM. Streaming should absolutely be 1:1000.

Yeah, I think many people on here lose sight that the vast majority of people don’t give a shit about chart positions and how well an act is selling/streaming. The fans usually have greater expectations of a song/album than the label/artist has. In the long run, I imagine Dancing will have more of a legacy than Into The Blue has, so I would say this campaign is already an improvement on the last one. Definitely feels like Dancing has had more exposure, promotion and marketing wise. Time will tell. Edited February 27, 20188 yr by GTH

Bal's question the previous page being a good example of this! (sorry I'm not sure why Bowie's albums are back :P) And in fact somebody has already answered the question and you missed it. Which maybe proves the point. They're individual reissues of the remastered albums that were in the boxed set last year. Which is the first time they've been available on vinyl for 20+ years, so I guess that're more of a draw than the CD versions. I meant to say - bearing that in mind I'm slightly surprised they're so far apart from each other in the chart, although I'm guessing the sales gaps won't be that big when sales are so low anyway.
