An Ed Sheeran version of 'Candle In The Wind' was already released as part of the 40th anniversary edition of 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' in 2014 lol ~ apparently this one is a new version but still, unless it's actually going to be promoted as a single I really don't think it's going to be an obvious #1 just because it's Ed.

I agree that this isn't an automatic #1 contender, Ed's name alone isn't a surefire #1 (poor End Game). If they actually promote it, it might be a different story.

 55 Rae Morris - Someone Out There :o a sales sorta-hit!

I get what you mean, but honestly, I don't know anyone that knew the other version already existed, myself included! But from those reporting about it, they clearly didnt know one existed and have been using "Ed covering 'Candle In the Wind'" aa their headline bait.

I was only half joking about it being #1 as I agree with you, but then again Ed is by far a bigger name now than he was 4 years ago and I'm sure others said a similar thing about 'River'. Not an instant #1, but I imagine it'll get a lot of hype surrounding it this time around.

Oh NO at John Nooman!

Guess he wasn't remembered as much as Sam Smith! He is the Duffy to Sam Smith's Adele tbh

Oh yes of course he's a lot bigger now than in 2014 and will get more attention this time around, I imagine it'll get somewhere in the chart on name alone, I just don't think people are going to care that much about it for it to be an instant #1 if it's just an album track. Possibly a different story if it is actually promoted but even then I don't think a throwaway recording for an Elton John cover album exactly screams huge hit like a new original Ed Sheeran song would. (And fair point about 'River', I'm still mystified at how quickly that took off, I guess some people thought it was a good song - but that doesn't mean all Ed releases are guaranteed instant hits, 'End Game' and 'Boa Me' both came nowhere near the top 40).

I don't have the best track record predicting things related to Ed Sheeran though so watch it now go to #1 for 17 weeks :P

plus, not sure how much he's changed it, but Ed's candle in the wind 2014 was terrible, really really bad cover

with a weird accelerated tempo that didn't fit the song and some fake sappy violins towards the end of the song

This was trending top 10 on YouTube too yesterday, I guess it was due for release tomorrow but rush released last night instead. Also top 5 in Spain, top 60 in Netherlands in terms of countries with somewhat meaningful iTunes Charts.

Jess Glynne is gonna have like 15 collabs before her proper comeback single
Michael McDonald was live on Radio 2 yesterday. I presume he didn't come all the way over here just to do that so I'd guess he's been on TV as well.

Quite a clever move, get her name back out there before she releases her second album

That Yungen Jess Glynne collab sounds like a surefire #1
