ABBA GOLD: SURVIVOR

I’ve taken it upon myself to launch my own survivor poll type thing, this one is for one of the biggest selling album of all times and also (sort of) coincides with the buzz around Mamma Mia again. The rules are simple please vote for YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE and every couple of days I will eliminate the song with the most votes until we have a winner.

LATEST ELIMINATED

12th Place - Money Money Money (11/34 votes, 32.35%)

13th Place - Super Trouper (8/39 votes, 20.51% FLASH VOTE: 12/22 votes, 54.55%)
14th Place - Chiquitita (6/34 votes, 17.65%)

15th Place - Thank You For The Music (16/36 votes, 44.44%)
16th Place - One of Us (11/32 votes, 34.38%)
17th Place - Does Your Mother Know (9/29 votes, 31.03%)
18th Place - The Name Of The Game (10/28 votes, 37.04%)
19th Place - I Have A Dream (6/23 votes, 26.09%)

Although it's been the runner up for the last couple of rounds, 'Fernando' manages to survive again leaving 'Money, Money, Money' as the eighth song to be eliminated. I will always have a soft spot for the song as I think it was the first ABBA song I was introduced to do, when we performed it in a play for infants. The song was released as the follow up to perhaps their most successful song Dancing Queen in 1976. The song peaked at #3, which makes sounds impressive before you realise that it was the only one not to top the chart in a great three year run for ABBA between 1976 & 1978. It's run at #3 lasted for four unconsecutive weeks in which time it was beaten by Showaddywaddy's 'Under The Moon Of Love, Queen's 'Somebody to Love', Johnny Mathis' 'When A Child Is Born' and David Soul's 'Don't Give Up On Us'.

So 'Fernando' was by far the closest with 8 votes. 'SOS' & 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' were next with 3 votes a piece. 'Dancing Queen' and 'Waterloo' both got two votes. Every other song got one song (Mamma Mia getting its first meaning every song has had a vote) except 'Voulez-Vous'.

Switched back to 'SOS' this time, going to alternate between that and 'Mamma Mia'.

'Money Money Money' isn't really an ABBA fave for me so that one isn't a big loss. I'm glad 'Fernando' held on again!

'Dancing Queen' ~

What little good me vote for Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! is, since, IMNSHO Fernando is much better than Gimme! cubed....but, it is what it is....
