March 26, 20188 yr Really happy to see Drake finally getting the boot from Number 1 and looking unlikely to return by Friday! I do wish it was George rather than Rudimental. On the other side great sales so far for George on the albums! :)
March 26, 20188 yr Still can't believe These Days is performing well and is looking to be this weeks #1, when it's been out for ages and is an incredibly mediocre + boring song by Rudimental's standards. Hoping Paradise can pull through, but it's probably going to be These Days nonetheless.
March 26, 20188 yr To be honest I prefer Rudimental to get that record at #2 for the most weeks at #2, really hoping George Ezra can gain on Rudimental, but I can't see it happening.
March 26, 20188 yr Great stuff, good to see a ridiculous fall for Drake - I'm sure he'll recover a bit but: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-9 is still iconic. *.* Also good to see Jess Glynne is going to get the record outright for most British female #1s and we get a default number 1 to boot. Iconic chart week for the OCC. *.* Edited March 26, 20188 yr by Doctor Blind
March 26, 20188 yr Just shows how stupid streaming is........... Yes, isn’t convenience inconvenient?
March 26, 20188 yr Just shows how stupid streaming is........... It's not streaming that's stupid, it's the OCC's stupid chart rules. I'm sure Drake will remain top 10 when missing streams are accounted for but quite frankly it's silly that we could potentially have another Despacito situation this week (though it's not so clear if God's Plan will end up as the top seller if it's apparently only at #3 without ACR).
March 26, 20188 yr Author Drake is only #8 on Spotify if you take ACR into account which is hardly spectacular, there's every chance he'll stay out of the top 10 imo. Streaming will benefit Post Malone at #12 more at the very least (and he's only 30 copies behind now).
March 26, 20188 yr I think a sub-clause of 'if you were #1 last week then ACR can not be applied until you have fallen from #1'. I know that might seem daft and promote really long running #1s but it would at least prevent default #1s. As you say though Dan it looks like Rudimental would have overtaken this week anyway.

God's Plan has never been the top seller anyway and probably will end up never being the top selling song in the UK.
March 26, 20188 yr Looks like Maroon 5 and All-4-One will be keeping that joint record for most weeks at #2 without reaching #1

At least that, but preferably the sub-clause should extend to the entire top ten. And also for ACR to be implemented in increments (1:200 when it first hits ACR, then 1:250 the following week and finally 1:300) to stop silly chart runs like 2-2-2-1-2-3-4-6-7-23-25-26-26-... OCC really need to revise their rules.
March 26, 20188 yr God's Plan has never been the top seller anyway and probably will end up never being the top selling song in the UK. You know what I mean, top seller including streaming equivalent sales. Like someone said earlier people need to get used to singles sales chart #1s and official chart #1s not correlating. As singles sales continue to drop off a cliff we'll continue to get #1s with most of their chart sales being SES.
March 26, 20188 yr Author Default #1s really don't bother me that much - we've only had two and it's not like Wild Thoughts and Feels were completely undeserving, they were huge hits anyway. ACR is serving its purpose - making way for fresher songs to gain greater chart exposure by shifting the deadwood. Drake's had his time, and at this point it doesn't really matter if it has 9 weeks at #1 or 12, it's still a massive hit.

I'm already used to it but it's a fact that God's Plan has never been the song that people have spent money on the most in a week. Listening to music and buying it are not the same thing no matter how the Official Charts Company try to disguise it.

Listening to music and buying it are not the same thing no matter how the Official Charts Company try to disguise it. I don't think the OCC have ever tried to say they're the same thing, but they're two different ways of consuming music and reflecting popularity. People spending money on songs is becoming increasingly irrelevant (as much as I still prefer downloading to streaming) so God's Plan not topping the sales chart just isn't really relevant. Post Malone's rockstar never did either - in fact, it only peaked at #3 on sales!

Drake's had his time, and at this point it doesn't really matter if it has 9 weeks at #1 or 12, it's still a massive hit. For me the biggest problem is that it takes the shine off of the status of a #1 hit. Obviously there are countless examples of questionable #1 hits in the past but (to my knowledge) they all had one thing in common wherein by the quantifiable metrics available, they were the biggest song of the week, if just for one week. There's something about that which I just find historically fascinating. But when "Despacito" is the most bought and most streamed song in a week but misses #1 in favour of a song that hasn't met the credentials at all. It feels like there's a distinction between a UK #1 and an OCC #1.
